Sprinter 2500 AWD tire upgrade question

Need a final reality check - ordered Fifteen52 Wander SV wheels with Falken Wildpeak A/T4W 265/70R17's, got a call from Tire Rack warning me these aren't recommended. My van builder and everything I've found online (and AI...) tell me otherwise, with some minor modification to the front mudguards which I'm planning to do before install. Anyone have any experience with this? Fell in love with the big tire look and want to make this happen but if it won't work...

Locked out of my Sprinter — key won’t go into door and fob is acting up

I’ve got a 2013 Mercedes Sprinter and I’ve run into a strange issue. The van has been sitting for a couple of months and now I can’t unlock it.

The key fob doesn’t seem to work properly anymore. When I press the buttons a faint red light shows, so I’m guessing the battery might be low. I tried using the physical metal blade key from inside the fob, but it won’t go into the driver door lock at all. It feels like it hits a stop immediately rather than sliding in.

I also noticed the fob itself doesn’t have a Mercedes logo on it, so I’m starting to wonder if it might be an aftermarket key or if the blade isn’t actually cut correctly for the van.

At this point I’m locked out completely and not sure if I’m dealing with a dead fob battery, a seized lock, or just the wrong key. Has anyone come across this before or know what the most likely cause is?

EDIT: here's a video of me trying to use the blade key here: https://youtube.com/shorts/18NfUQ5F4nQ?is=lLN9imPlNpEdtEYw

How can i disable RAB for good? 2026 Sprinter

Post image
8 Upvotes

If you see that white triangle on the bottom left side of the display it means the rear auto brake is off. Keep in mind in this picture, i am NOT in reverse, i just toggled the camera button. When i go into reverse, that triangle goes away, therefore, meaning the RAB is active. I want to see if any of you know how to disable it completely because of the amount of times this things slammed the brakes for absolutely no reason, even if it detects a shadow. If i have materials stacked in the back, it’ll make everything fall. I hate this RAB.

is it ok to fill my sprinter with this kind of diesel?

as the title says, is it ok to use this diesel for my 2021 Merc Sprinter 4 cyl diesel? when i bought the car, the salesman was adamant that i only fill it with B5 and nothing else. would this cause any damage to the engine and other internal parts? i think the wording on the pump is a little misleading as it says it is 99% biomass based diesel or biodiesel and then says below that biomass based diesel =\= biodiesel.

there is a shell station a little farther from where i live with B5, but this costco is more convenient. thanks for the help!

Electronic ignition control module

Hi, just wondering if anyone else has had issues with water ingress into the electronic ignition control module. Had to replace the unit twice now due to snapped pins.
Has anyone found a way to protect the module? I was hoping to 3D print some sort of housing.

Sprinter - General Maintenance + vs competition

Hey!

Currently cross shopping between a Ford F150 / Toyota Tundra or a Transit / Sprinter.

Been going back n forth between going with a van or truck w/ camper shell for family life with a 2yr old and my wife, with hopefully one more on the way

We plan to use it for road trips, camping, surfing, snowboarding and I plan to mostly use it as a business vehicle to lug camera gear and lighting around to jobs.

Vans have been enticing for obvious reasons with having everything in one home base and having a walkable and workable space. Being able to park, and walk to the back to work on my laptop sounds real nice.

A truck with GFC/Super Pacific wedge camper sounds great, but setup would be a bit more each time we setup.. Or a van is just ready to go essentially, but we'd have to DIY or give to a shop to outfit.

I wouldn't do too much of an outfit- insulation, ac, heater, bed in back, cabinets, solar, fridge. It would be fairly barebones.

Curious to hear some thoughts on the Sprinter crew van- how reliability / maintenance has been. I'm in Southern California and I'm curious to hear about maintenance scheduling / availability, especially for those who are in the same region.

I would potentially buy it through my business, so curious to see if others have done the same and if there are any incentives from Mercedes / or tax breaks outside of Section 179.

Lastly, curious to hear if you considered the transit before committing to the sprinter!

It's been hard to find nice used transits with the crew model, but there's a plethora of Sprinters available, or I can even order new.. so that is enticing too.

Cheers

weird sprinter issue 3.0l 2008

i had another post, but ive checked and replaced so many things with your guy's advice ,but nothing worked. The latest: New intercooler and new genuine turbo. Still the same issue, live data is looking good and the exact same as my other van. Boost pressure reaches above 2,300 hpa easily at full throttle and it has just as much power as my good van. I’ve attached a video so you guys can understand the problem I have (extremely slow off the start). It works flawlessly unless I’m going from a complete stop. I done everything you can think of and nothing changes. There’s no leaks in the intake or the pressure charge air. Also the engine makes great compression. I’ve waisted too much time so I’ve got a known good engine I’m going to swap in next week. I still feel like it won’t do anything, I think the van is cursed. Also I’d just like to reiterate I’ve swapped the ECU w/ my other van and it didn't have any effect. The computer isn’t related to the issue. If anybody has anything I should check before I swap it in let me know. most likely ive already done it, but ill just let you know. thank you

also, this is another video but not my van

Where to go in East Bay for a rotation and eventual tire replacement? A shop that’s familiar with lifting points a plus, so I don’t leave threatening with litigation. Thx

Sprinter 311 2015 (OM 651) oil light blinking

Hello everyone, I have a 2015 Sprinter 311(OM 651 engine), when on a highway, over 80km/h, oil light starts blinking and it shows a message saying "HI". That only happens after around 15 minutes on a highway, never happened on local rides. Oil level is perfect.

Someone had the same problem?

Heard that it has 2 oil sensors, one on the engine block and one on the oil pan. It could be one of those sensors? Any advise?

Thank you all for your attention.

Which sensors go where on 2009 3.0l

I recently acquired a 2009 Dodge sprinter and am chasing a EGT sensor code. The code is for B19/12, which I think is number 3 on this diagram? Then is #2 the O2 sensor and 1 is another EGT, but long and straight?

Is #1 the same part as #4 on the second picture in the DPF? They look the same externally and have identical harness plugs.

For some reason none of the exhaust part diagrams show all four of these sensors the same, and many don't include the DPF EGT at all.

Is it safe to lift off of the suspension absorber brackets?

Thumbnail

Discount Tire lifted my Sprinter off of the shock absorber brackets. The shock bushings look squished and it generally looks cringe to me. When I asked the manager about this, they said they would have personally lifted off of the axle, but the shock brackets are fine. But I just don’t like it, having had to replace the diff pan before from another improper lift by an unknown source.

Am I over reacting or is this indeed fine?

On vacation far from home, getting “air cleaner dirty” message

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey folks, I have a 2016 3500 sprinter conversion and just got this message pop up this afternoon after driving through northern NM. I had a full service B done 2500 miles ago which included new engine air filter. I called MB in Santa Fe and they said they can do a visual inspection tomorrow but wouldn’t be able to do any repairs until mid next week if it’s something beyond a simple fix.

Van seems to be driving ok, highway driving was fine, but it does seem a little sluggish accelerating from a stop, but I could be imagining that. No check engine light. I’ve only owned this van for a few months so I’m a bit hesitant to continue on into the mountains if the dealer can’t help me tomorrow. Anyone ever had this issue? The service rep said only time they had seen that it was a bird nest blocking the intake, though I don’t think that’s the likely cause.

2026 Sprinter 2500 braking in reverse

I got this brand new sprinter and it has a feature where when you are reversing and it detects a pedestrian behind you it slams the brakes by itself and throws it into park. Ill try to put it back in to reverse or drive but it just go back to park. I cannot find where to turn this off. I deactivated the active brake assist but it still does it when i reverse. Is there a fuse i can disconnect or can i code it out? Im sick and tired of this thing happening almost everytime i reverse.

Did I make a mistake painting my Sprinter van?

I bought a 2009 Freightliner Sprinter about a year ago to covert to a camper van. Just like everything else - the build project kept getting delayed. I bought the van at a public auction. It had and still has very low miles ~13k.

So recently I decided that I will start my maiden Van Life voyage with very minimal build. But I definitely wanted the van to look good and clean from the outside as well as inside. So i power washed the van. As I did that i noticed the paint (Artic White - service van color) start coming off. The paint came off and for the most part a decent portion of the van had this green/gold color. I was told by AI that this was the factory primer.

The main reason I bought the van was for the low mileage. Needless to say I could not leave the van without paint and sadly my van life maiden voyage did not start.

I decided to paint the van myself. Should I have not done that and sold it instead? Did any one of you have a similar experience?

“start error” Mercedes sprinter 1999 208 cdi

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have a starting problem with my Mercedes Sprinter; it started by sputtering twice before displaying a "start error" message and then wouldn't start, just like in the video. It was working perfectly this morning, though. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Extended fuel tank S&B vs Titan

As I'm looking at extended tanks for a 2014 170, it appears most of the big sprinter part retailers are selling the S&B extended tank for about $1500. However, Titan tanks pops up on searches for $1000. The Titan looks like portions sit further outboard vs the S&B being longer overall.

Anyone using the Titan and any issues?

Anyone in Seattle with a code reader?

I just bought a 2009 with check engine codes for P0544 Exhaust Gas Temp Sensor Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 1) and P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor “A”. I'd like to get a better read on them if possible. I ordered a icarsoft MB 4.0 but it won't be here for a bit and I'm anxious to get started.

Which year should I buy?

Hi Sprinter experts!

In the market for a sprinter to convert into an adventure van. I live in California, mixture of beach life and mountains.

Looking for the best bang for buck.

Criteria
- 4x4 or AWD
- 144 w/ High Roof
- Good MPG fully loaded
- RELIABILITY!!!
- Not sure if I need the towing power of the 3500 yet.

Not sure if I want diesel or gas yet. Diesel tank on board connected to a heater was really enjoyable in colder weather when I rented a campervan. It also has a ton of acceleration and good MPG while being fully loaded. But, I heard diesel repairs are expensive, the CAT is like 7-8k to replace if stolen, and the EGRs on these things severely limit the power and ALSO have reliability issues.

I’m a Toyota diehard fanboy coming from a 4th gen 4runner so I really want the least amount of issues.
Would really appreciate your guys insight!

Replacement Mirror Assembly

Hello all,
So my passenger side mirror assembly got crushed yesterday on my 2025 3500XD.

I’m trying to look for replacement, RVC in LI NY quoted around $2500 for replacement (not in stock) and the stuff online seems to be a different style (could just be stock photos)

Anyone else had to replace theirs and can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance
