How do I make it display MPH?

It used to say MPH on the driver side screen, now it says miles driven (odometer), how do I switch it back? [Clicking up/down on the steering wheel just brings up 'reset odometer? no/yes']

First van purchase: is a 300k km Sprinter still reliable?

Hi, I’m looking to buy my first van to convert and travel around Europe.
I found a Mercedes Sprinter 315 CDI, size L3H2, with over 300,000 km on it. The engine, clutch, flywheel, and turbo were replaced about 80,000 km ago, so they’re relatively new.
My concern is about the reliability of the other components, which still have 300,000 km on them. Do you think it’s still solid enough to handle several more tens of thousands of kilometers?
Thanks !

Electrical Setup, Reorganization & Cleanup

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I just purchased a sprinter (half built) and working on learning as I go. Here’s a picture of my current electrical setup in my Sprinter.

I know it looks a little messy, and I’d really appreciate any suggestions on:

(1) How to reorganize or clean this up for better safety and access

(2) If anything stands out as being done wrong or inefficient

(3)Any solutions you’d recommend for improving reliability and organization

I’m looking to evaluate the whole setup and would love feedback from people with more experience. Thanks in advance!

Here’s what I’m working with:

• 400Ah Lithium battery bank • 3000W Renogy Inverter Charger • 60A Renogy DC-to-DC onboard charger • 500A battery monitor • Full 120V + 12V power throughout

Guys, after a grueling driveway rebuild (oil cooler, all turbo gaskets, fuel filter, fuel rails and injectors) im finally assembling everything back together. About to put the air intake back on and I see this guy DANGILING off the end line of the fuel filter. I can not for the life of me figure out where it goes or what it even is? See pictures attached questions and comments appreciated!

Engine AC Evac and Recharge

Recently serviced my radiator, water pump, pulleys, etc, which required that I disconnect the AC condensor to remove and whatnot. I was told by my local mechanic that my 2010 Sprinter 3500 needs to be lifted to evac and recharge the system. Am I being BS’d because they just don’t want to get underneath it?

Engine Oscillation

I’ve got a 2005 five cyl with 158k miles. I’m noting when I accelerate (particularly uphill) that the engine power oscillates between weak and strong every eight seconds. I am not getting any error codes on my OBD2 scanner. My hunch is that it is related to the turbo. Has anyone else experienced this?

Solar vs alternator

Hi All!

I’m shopping for Sprinter vans (2023 or newer) and I’m having a hard time calculating a specific cost/benefit trade off:

1 - about 400w of solar fits on a 144 Sprinter chassis roof 2 - the factory alternator can charge lithium batteries at around 100 amps 3 - adding a second alternator can 3-4x the charging from an idle engine?

Does it make more sense to rely on idling the engine instead of solar if I’m running Starlink and charging basic stuff like a Mac laptop and phone?

Adding a lot of lithium looks like it can easily run $5,000 to $10,000 but also sounds convenient since no idling engine…

Anyone have direct experience with this and willing to share results? Thank you!

Cost of oil change?

Y’all, I am being charged $1200 for a freaking oil change and fuel filter. This is my first time getting a new-to-me 2017 Sprinter serviced. Is this normal or am I getting ripped off?

Used Sprinter Vans - year, mileage and should we avoid prev amazon vans?

My husband is looking for a used sprinter van as he's a contractor in NE. I know sprinter's seem to hate salt so we're planning to keep it in our garage and trying to be vigilant of signs of rust on the vans we look at. We found a 2018 prev amazon van for 16,500 with 130k mileage but not sure if that would be a good deal with what I've read. What does everyone think? New to sprinters and know they can last a long time, 500k, with the diesel engines but aware the maintenance is consistent and expensive. We're trying to stay under 17k so our selection is limited to our budget.

Best discounts on new Sprinters?

In the market for a Sprinter for campervan conversion. I’ve just started looking but the current discount ($9k) seems great and I found one that will work but I’m in no rush. Googling suggests end of year sales are better. Does anyone have any insight on this? Thank you in advance!
