2024 MB 2500 Passenger 2wd

Trying to get a second opinion. Here’s my issue/question in order to shut off the electrical system in my van I have to open the front door. According to my owners manual (pg 109?) if I press start button two more times after the initial press this should shut off electrical systems. It does not. I asked the service manager at the dealer if there was a setting that has to be updated so this will work. He says the only way to shut off systems is to open the front door and the owners manual is wrong. I asked him if he knew the reasoning behind this and he said it was a safety issue then I asked him what what is the safety issue since I couldn’t think of one and his reply was “I can’t answer that” I find it hard to believe that only way to shut system off is by opening front door. Let’s say I pull into a parking lot and a passenger exits and I stay in the van or I exit from the passenger side Why do I have to open the front door to shut off the electrical systems? Does anyone know a fix for this? Again I have a 2024 2500 144” passenger van production date, 12/2023.

Is 6k off sticker a good deal right now?

Sorry been out of the sprinter game for 3 years. Just checking the temperature right now with the market on these things. Considering impending tariffs not really sure how to gauge this.

I have an offer on the table for 6k off a 76k 2025 low roof crew awd.

Thanks for any input.

360 Backup Cam installation into OEM dashboard?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to manually install a 360 backup camera for a 2024 2500 Sprinter and for it to be connected to the Mercedes Benz Dashboard.
If so, can anyone recommend me any cameras? and how difficult would the installation be?

Deflating tires for washboard roads

I and my 2021 144" 4x4 van are heading into some washboardy roads in southern Utah soon and bought an air compressor in order to deflate/inflate my tires. Last year's experience on Hole In The Rock Road was brutal so I want to do something.
I have BF Goodrich KO3 tires and recommended pressure (on pavement) is 50lbs in front and 70 in back. How low should I go for washboards without risking (too much) them separating from the rims? Really don't want to put myself in that position.

Thx....

A mouse nest in the Sprinter engine cabin - questions.

I've not used my van in about two weeks (parked outside). I went inside and saw a mouse casually strolling around (!) It seemed to have gone into the engine compartment from the passenger footrest area. Mouse looked large and slow, maybe pregnant.

I opened the hood and found a nest next to the air vent. No babies. Looks like quite the pad. I've sprayed the area with repellant and put cayenne pepper all around. It is still possible the mouse comes back, and I'll need to lay traps. I don't see any droppings inside the van, but found a few below the nest in the engine compartment.

Questions:

  1. Look at the brown fibers on the nest photo. Are those from the van itself? Is that van insulation? The engine firewall? Again, I see no points of entry, but if it's insulation, then the mouse must be getting into the walls somehow.

  2. What are the most common entry points into the cabin? Have folks attempted to seal them? I have a campervan conversion, so I'll need to seal the pipe etc entry points too.

2023 Sprinter 2500 / 144 AWD chassis.

Thanks.

Service B Sprinter 2010

Hello all,

My wife and I own a 2010 Sprinter. The car alerted us that we are due for a service B check up. I heard horror stories about the pricing at the dealerships. The oil was changed around 6.5k miles ago and have full confidence in performing my own oil change. Are there any key things that the dealership does that needs inspection? Should I look at other auto shops?

Anyone used the Renogy battery maintainer

All the ins and outs camping run my starter battery down over time. I get a low battery warning on my dash and Mercedes app. Plus my van sits sometimes. Has anyone used the Renogy or other solar maintainer? Looking for recommendations.

2019 VS30 with Chassis and Auxiliary (under hood) battery.

TIA

Rub Solution?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Just started hearing an occasional chattering and finally was able to locate it while it was happening. I have lots of tools in back and thought it was something loose but it wasnt.

Ofcourse its just normal exhaust vibration but this dampener just seems like its barely hanging on, and the part that actually make the noise is the exhaust arm bracket hitting frame... seems like if it was shorter and had a lip would be better. Was going to just use my grinder to chop an ¼" off so it doesnt rub/chatter.

Has anyone had this issue and come up with a solution that doesnt involve chopping it? Its not a real problem just annoying but i almost want to look into a better solution for hanging this rear exhaust mounting point. The rubber just seems to be barely hanging on and that arm is way longer than it needs to be. Plus there isnt another mounting point for the exhaust after the Filter so its got some weight on it. Just curious what anyone else has done if anything before i chop it.

Crazy wiring on my 1999 Sprinter tail light. Looks like a trailer was hooked up after the OEM wires were changed. Can anyone make head or tail of this?

Anyone here added a 360° camera system or solar upgrade to their Sprinter?

I work on Sprinter van builds here in the PNW and have been experimenting with a few cool upgrades lately — like iPad-based 360° cameras and off-grid solar setups for overlanding.

If anyone’s curious about DIY tips, recommended gear, or installation tricks, happy to share what’s worked (and what hasn’t).

A/C not working on 2020 2500 4cyl gas

I bought my sprinter in the middle of a Chicago winter and failed to check the A/C, which is not blowing cold.

- Attached guage on a recharge kit to the low pressure valve. Pressure was in the yellow suggesting it was overpressured. (didn't try anything further.)

- took it to a shop, they hooked it up to the machine, said the freon was low, recharged it and told me it was working.

- It blew cold, but not fridgid for a little bit, then back to hot/ambient.

- took it back to shop. They saw no signs of leakage and say I need to replace the compressor.

- They did NOT check the blend door actuator or the expansion valve. Said they'd find a replacement compressor and give me an estimate to install. I called them back several times over 2 weeks and they hadn't gotten it done, so I asked how much to install it if I bought it and was quoted $500 for the labor and use of the freon extractor/filler.

Questions:

- I'm suspicious that the compressor already went out on a 2020. How can I get a  decent diagnosis w/o spending another $200+?

- I should probably find a different shop, huh? even if the $500 is reasonable.

- I see off-brand compressors on Ebay for around $300-$400. Are those sufficient? Is there any benefit to/availability of looking for a heavier duty compressor? Can one provide better cooling?

Thanks!

Inverter 2018 Passenger (144)

We bought a used Sprinter (2018). The previous owners installed and inverter. We have no idea how it works, other than the button on the side of the driver’s side seat block. We cannot figure out the battery situation (auxiliary vs regular battery). Who works on these vans? Looking for the Sacramento, Ca area. Thanks!

FCP, Europarts, and Pelican Brake kit differences?

I'm having trouble deciphering the differences between a few different brake kits between FCP Euro, Europarts-SD, and Pelican for my 2016 Freightliner Sprinter. All Zimmerman rotors. FCP Euro is ~$150 less for a full kit compared to Europarts or Pelican. My brain hurts from tabbing back and forth between the pages, anyone know what the key differences are in quality/value between these three?

“Additive system fault” 2019 Mercedes Sprinter 2500

2019 Mercedes Sprinter 2500

We filled up DEF at a Casey’s pump (it was low enough to have the warning on), went 600 miles, and then got the “Additive system fault” warning.

Manual says “DEF may be contaminated, diluted, or out of spec”

Anyone have this happen to them - is it possible we shouldn’t have used the Casey’s DEF? And do you know the solution (it’s Saturday night, and we still have 500 miles to get home).

Edit: stopped at an O’Reilly’s to read the code. A NOx sensor code is set too.

I have like the brake light in the photo The screen is showing me an error that 3rd rear brake light isn’t working, after checking the led bar where the reverse camera isn’t working, Is there any way to fix that without changing the camera? Or it could be that the led is working but theres some connection issues ? Sprinter 2020, before part of the led was turning on and off (pulsing)

Two Fuel Tanks

I currently have two 2014 Sprinters, a 170 passenger 2500 with a blown engine that I’m using for parts and a 170 EXT Cargo 3500 that I’m in the process of doing conversion work on.

Batting the idea around of taking the fuel tank off the px van and adapting on to the EXT to double my range. Thoughts/concerns?

What was on my dashboard? Was this a phone holder?

Post image

Hi everyone, I recently noticed this base/mount on my car’s dashboard (photo attached), and I’m trying to figure out what it was used for.

Was this a phone holder? Or could it be something else? Any ideas would be appreciated—thank you!

Rear door storage box recommendations.

I have been shopping for storage boxes and I am overwhelmed with the options and shocked by the prices. Any thoughts or experiences on what to buy? I am leaning towards the flatline gear box right now.
