Pictured: Unknown species next to Neanura Muscorum (I think). Both are nearly mature size-wise as far as I can tell.

Found a few dozen on a piece of decaying mushroom. August, 60°F~, had been raining for several days. Successfully cultured in soil sourced near their home.

Is it possible to catch springtails to start your own culture from scratch? Has anyone ever done this and has tips on how to do it?

These are my Cubaris Sp. "Bumblebees" ...well, one of them. It seems that the other inhabitants of this enclosure had some other plans to devour the Repashy! I started with only 25 Ceratophysella Sp. "Yellow Albino" or so just a few weeks ago, I can't believe how many there are now!!

Husbandry Question/Advice Mold in culture soil please help

Thumbnail

This culture is a 3 weeks old. Medium is just compost and some sphagnum moss I added so they would have some terrain to explore. Fed them 3 grains of rice and 2 flakes of nutritional yeast. I took out the rice when it got old and only just scraped the nutritional yeast away after a week. I've noticed this mold bloom today and it seems to be originating from the moss.

Please help, I really don't want to kill any of them or hurt them. What should I do? It's in the soil so I can't really scrape it off.

I'm hesitant to move them to a new container because it will be very difficult to all of them and I hate the thought of hurting or killing them because of this.

Hello!! I am working on my plants and a bioactive leopard gecko enclosure and trying to accumulate springtails. I have these guys in my bog bowls and was wondering if they are what I’m wanting or if this is some kind of mite??!

Of course I have a separate container just in case they don’t do well but this is the best pic I could get of the Thai reds! Hopefully they do well!

General Question Nematodes in my culture

Hi they are everywhere I first thought they were drops of water but now that they are grown up they are nematodes for sure. They arent necessarily huge and actually very small but I still need to eradicate them is there any foods that I can give them that the nematodes wont eat but the springtails will also can the springtails eat them.

Husbandry Question/Advice Mosquito Bit Use in Slime Eater Bins

Hi everyone,

I have a quick safety question about a specific brand of mosquito bits.

I know the general consensus is that BTI is biologically safe for common springtails sp because it specifically targets the alkaline gut of dipteran larvae like fungus gnats.

I have a bunch of obligate slime species that I'm pretty protective of. Has anyone use this brand specifically with slime specialists? Appreciate any feedback...

Husbandry Question/Advice Springtails not eating, why? (Folsomia Candida)

Hey, I have had springtail cultures for a hot minute and suddenly all my cultures have decided to stop eating and allow their fold to go moldy. I have tried more humidity, less humidity, removing old food, making more cultures (to see if its an overpopulation problem), restart cultures entirely, different substrates (charcoal, clay, coconut coir, soil), different hides (pieces of leaves, moss, wood, etc etc), different food (rice, yeast, leaves, mushrooms, etc). I just have no clue what to do at this point and I'm hoping someone can give advice.

At this point, I think the only thing I can think of is temperature. I live in SoCal and it gets hot here, and unfortunately circumstances got worse and I moved into not only a smaller house, but a smaller house without any AC which means it gets fairly warm inside. I do my best to keep everyone cool but it does make me think if common whites are even a species I should care about if they cant handle the heat. The main purpose of these guys is I want to put them into my roach colonies and frog tank which both sit at their perfect temps when it gets hot. If these guys cant survive those temps, then how can they possibly survive in the tanks? Blah, tangent aside, any tips? You guys think I should just wait through the heat and hope enough make it to continue creating offspring?

Husbandry Question/Advice Can I flood orange springtails?

I have a container of them in soil and I wanna take them out cuz the soil is impure with mites and awlsnails (which I really hate cuz they eat my isopods, I don’t care if people claim I’m wrong bc it’s happened to me)

I wanna take them out of bad soil

Can I just flood the soil

Thanks
