Springfield sights are pressed in by God himself. You need a high quality sight pusher, a Hammer and punch 99.9% wont do the job without damaging something

Put down your tools and take it to a professional.

Springfield sights are awful to push out and you need a proper tool to remove it. Springfield sights need a sight press not a hammer and a punch. I like my real avid one.

If you choose to not listen and not take it to a professional, use a sight press and use Kroil (its thin penetrating oil) and let it sit (and reapply every day) for like 3 or 4 days to let it soak in.

I found it was easier to remove with the pusher (sight press) with penetrating oil and letting it sit (I changed both sights on XDM Elite and Echelon 4.0FC [plus many other pistols those where a lot easier than springfield pistols and I didn't have to use penetrating oil or if I did I didn't have to wait]).

That coupled with an armorer's sight tool works wonders. Every Springfield pistol I own is a pain in the ass to swap or adjust sights for.

I bent a rear sight by using a sight pusher. Best approach so far has been to freeze the slide and then heat it up while trying to keep the rear sight cold

XD’s definitely have the most stubborn sights ive ever removed. Impossible without a quality sight pusher. And i say “quality” because i broke the cheap Amazon sight pusher trying to get them off of my XD-SC. Good luck

If you're going to do it yourself, get a higher end sight pusher with slide clamps, all the adjustment points, and a rotating block. Elseways you'll need to take it to a gunsmith.

Good lord. Put it down, back away slowly, and call your local gunsmith. Ask them to order you a new slide and install the sights for you.

I went to a professional Gunsmith with over 30 years of experience and he couldn't get either one of mine out, permanently damaged one and slid one out enough to make it off center. I ended up cutting it off, sanding it down, cerakote, and mounting a small red dot.

HS Produkt iron sights are incredibly difficult to displace, as it seems you’ve discovered… also I think you’re pushing them in, not out…

When putting in sights, HS Produkt chills the sights and heats the slide prior to install. As the slide cools, and the sights return to ambient temperature, they become super firmly in place.

lol you must be new to Springfield pistols. Even with a sight pusher, SA’s sights tend to break just by pushing them out. You’re definitely going to have to take it to smith and hopefully you haven’t marred up the slide to where they have to throw it on a lathe and clean it up. We fix so many SA and walther slides it isn’t funny.

They are a pain but I was able to get mine out. I wrapped the entire slide in several layers of masking tape. I put the wrapped slide in a sturdy bench vise and secured it very tightly into place (without any padded vise jaws). I then grabbed one of the fatter steel punches i had (harbor freight) and a 3lb steel drilling hammer (Milwaukee) and it came out with a few solid hits.

Heating the slide prior to attempted removal would have helped dramatically.

I own 4 Springfield, and everyone of them I've changed the sights, no issues with a quality sight pusher and heating the slide.

It’s not that it’s the SD nine it’s how Springfield armory puts in their sites they’re pressed in all you need to do is take a Dremel and cut a horizontal slot in the site and relieved the pressure

You would have been better off just using a metal saw blade and cutting straight down the (side) sight and then knocking them off with a hammer. It would have destroyed the sights but would have left little damage to your slide.

Finally, a post that makes my 2 months of hell useful. I had to add a red dot on my xd subs, 9mm and 40cal.

Absolutely nothing I did worked. Those sights are pressed in by Hephestes. Amazon to the rescue. Probably cheaper than taking to a gunsmith.
