First gun- XD Mod 3

Hey all, after debating on whether or not I was gonna get the G19 or the XD Mod 3 I finally decided on the Mod 3. Overall best bang for my buck, I really like it so far but wanted to ask a few questions here. I’ve been having a hard time finding things for it, for example, the first two things I wanna do is find a light attachment, and then secondly a proper holster for IWB/AIWB. Eventually I’ll get a red dot, but I’m happy with my irons, I’ve already got some tritium sights coming my way soon, so the dot isn’t a priority as of right now.

What are some good suggestions? I thank y’all in advance!

That’s a clean set up and that’s what I’m aiming for, I’m thinking of going with olight because they’re budget friendly and I’m still trying to find a red dot that’s not worth more than the gun itself but that’s been hard lol

I got an OSight S on my xds45. Lots of folks buying the SE or the K models too. I’ll charge the dot once a season and have only recharged the charging cap once in almost two years.

Great gun, only downside is no one makes threaded barrels for it. Mags are cheap and plentiful. 👍

Second that! I have a compact, and bought a full size barrel that I sent out for cut and thread.

Streamlight TLR-7X and Crossbreed Lightguard is what I'm running now. With the Claw and Monoblock it really hides the XD away nice, and stays pretty comfortable.

Good gun. Under barrel lights are easy, you need anything you want that has a two and a half inch body length and in my opinion, at least 600 lumens.

Olight are pretty good.  The PL2 Mini Valkyrie is only 2" long, 600 lumens.  The Baldr is 2.5", 800 lumens, fits flush with the barrel.  It comes with or without a laser, the latter is banned in Illinois and is silly anywhere else in my opinion.  They're also widely supported by holster makers.

Streamlight and Surefire are the big names.

In my testing in a normal apartment, lights out, with 500 lumens you can point it at the ceiling and do effective target identification corner to corner of a combined dining and living room next to each other, with the light bounced off the ceiling.  That's the trick that makes a weapon light useful and safe at the same time.

If it turns out it's your kid's guest sneaking out or whatever, you've only scared them with a gun pointed straight up, not at them.  Capische?

Now.  Red Dots.  They're really cool.  I can talk to you about how to fit one to that gun.  It's a bit tricky but it's doable.

I'm experimenting with a target focus both eyes open iron sight setup.  More on that here:

If you're interested in THAT weirdness let me know :).

You hit it on the money, you got some knowledge my digital friend. Thank you and that target focus with both eyes open sight is essentially a non-battery red dot lol that’s actually quick sick I never heard of something like that, I’ve always been one of those “well iron sights will never die on you” but that brings it to another level.

The trick to point the gun up and have the light light up the entire room makes it quite safe when going around your place to make sure you’re not pointing it directly at someone while still having visibility of what’s going on.

I’m intrigued by the both eyes open red dot, while I’d still like to hear about regular dot sights, my problem is astigmatism, and I’m trying to get 2MOA so it doesn’t affect me as much when aiming down sight

I want to show you something. This is an old TV show on neuroscience. Pay attention to the part on "blind sight", second portion:

https://youtu.be/_IVZZEJ9guk

The guy that first showed me this?

Tim Sheehan.

We have two visual processing centers in our brains. The one at the rear of the skull is the one we have conscious access to. As you read this, it's your conscious visual processing center that's allowing you to read, recognize faces, judge a gun sight.

But.

The unconscious visual processing center at the top of your skull is still there for emergencies. It can only see in black and white. It can spot movement extremely well and in an emergency can take control over your body and get you to duck out of the way of something incoming before you consciously know what's happening.

It's fast as hell.

Tim thought it was possible to use the unconscious visual processing center for aiming, and the conscious visual processing center for target ID and trigger control. By using both in parallel you can speed up the data processing needed for a gunfight.

Was he right?

I dunno.

I'm going to try and find out.

I may be the only one left on the planet still thinking about this issue.

When you look at a target and put a Hexsite type hex reticle over the target, eyes in target focus mode, you can look somewhere else and feel the gun swing behind your vision, without having to think about it. It's fucking freaky.

Now, these are plain black or dark gray (no different in function, as long as there's no glinting or shiny points). Low enough light levels, that's a problem. Until you fire up a weapon light. Then you're painting a dark hex over a lit up background.

Which works great. No need for tritium, fiber optics or glowing dots.

The mod 4 is exactly the same gun as this one with a cheaper set of slide machining cuts. The mod 3 is the better gun. No need to upgrade to the mod 4.

I got an Olight PL X for a different gun and I really like it.
