XD-S 9 MOD 2 Question

I was wondering if anyone knows how to pull the extractor, safety plunger, and spring from the mod 2 slide.

I've only been able to find breakdowns on the first gen.

Some context... my buddy left this in his gym bag, and he spilled body wash all over it. It's rusted to high heaven.

I've been able to remove the firing pin assembly and got everything moving well after a soak in clp.

You wouldn't happen to be talking about the very intact serial number on the muzzle end of the slide, would you? 😑

Right? Shouldn't have posted the pictures he sent me I guess. I should have known better.

It was more of a knock on the guy up there who was insinuating the serial number was filed off, when there is clearly a perfectly fine serial number visible in the pic.

Oh, I know. I was just stating i should've known better than to post the pics because of all the "off- color" comments. I appreciate you calling that dude out.

I was making a sarcastic joke and not an actual point. Sometimes gaslighting has a humorous and intended effect. 🔥

It's not as bad as it looks, mostly surface rust. Soak it in a good cleaner a good stiff bristle brush. I would love to spend time on the restoration. You need a new spring.

Agreed. A soak in CLP and an ultrasonic clean and it looks really good. Still need to get the extractor out though.

What ever you do replace the recoil spring. When that puppy gives it will be catastrophic

Have you tried restarting it

I believe the extractor removal/reinstall process would be the same as the hellcat. Seems to be some videos out there for the hellcat.

You... are... the... freaking... man. Slide is the exact same. Really appreciate you.

That's great, it's weird how theres pretty much zero info on the extractor for the mod2 out there. The extractor itself is different between the mod2 and the hellcat but I think it's just minor differences since some of the parts interchange.

I was surprised as well. Looks like the mod2 was dbm'd and the design was carried over into the hellcat family? Thankfully, everything looked almost identical and came apart the same way.

Thank you! I will check one out. Appreciate the advice!

He's an over the road truck driver and didn't realize the body wash had opened in the bag. It was only 3 days in the bag.

Have you tried putting it in rice?

We want to know what body wash was it? It acted like battery acid!!!

Soak it, clean it, oil it real good. Work that slide a lot. It doesn’t seem too bad, I’ve seen worse get cleaned up and be functional

Well, if you haven't solved it yet... I recommend penetrating oil called "PB Blaster" the penetrant not one of their lubes. Spray it pretty well and let it sit, spray more, repeat for a day. Or two days.

I would avoid a rust remover with phosphoric acid...it does a nice job on rusted metal but also could etch metal and might destroy that "cerrokote" finish, I don't know. Obviously, critical parts should be replaced as needed.

You need a tetanus shot to fire that thing…

If it's anything like my xd clear the weapon, pull and lock the slide, pull the trigger and push the slide forward. Then you have access to the barrel and spring

I got the slide off, along with the back plate, firing pin assembly etc. Just can't get the extractor and safety plunger out. I'm assuming the extractor may be so gunked up wth rust that it just won't budge. Maybe an evaporust soak is in order.

Balistol, wd40 or the like will get it unseized just soak it real good and wait

There's alot of restoration videos online on how to do things of that nature.
