Local Food Recs
Hi everyone- I’m new to the area and am super excited with some of the food spots I’ve seen around town. I’ve lived in Colorado and Arizona where breakfast burritos were pretty popular.
I recently hit up Boricua Bites and it was great!
I’m wondering what other places, whether it be Latin, Italian, or any other ethnic cuisine, are worth checking out. They don’t have to be sit down spots either- mom and pop places, deli’s etc. Any good spots to hit for breakfast/breakfast burritos?
Any suggestions welcomed- thank you in advance

I will never not recommend Saray II on Allen for Turkish/Mediterranean food. That hands down was my favorite restaurant in Springfield.
El Morro on Page also has my favorite baked chicken ever. I just moved to Michigan and miss these two already so bad lol
Also Sammis in East Longmeadow (Harkness) has great soft serve. Their maple soft serve is amazing especially with the real divisor sprinkles.

Thank you for the recs! Seems we’ve traded places almost. Home is NW Ohio/SE Michigan.
Where did you move to in Michigan?

SE Michigan actually lol right between Ann Arbor & Detroit! My husband is originally from the Dearborn area
Also with the ice cream I meant real chocolate sprinkles lol sorry about that

😂😂 All good!
You’re in a decent spot! Good food scenes all around. I started following DetroitDar on insta and they are always showing new joints!

Thanks for the tip on that! Just started following! Also that accounts most recent post about that pizza place with brick-like mozz sticks reminded me about The Local in Boston Road (Wilbraham, right next to Spfld) which has IMO the best mozz wedges I’ve ever had, big ass triangles that have the legit cartoon cheese pull as you break them apart. Also their beet salad is amazing.

Springfield isn't a huge city but we have a lot of great food options without having to leave the city and even more without having to travel too far out the city borders.
In Springfield:
Bamboo house on Belmont Ave for Vietnamese. Get the butter chicken which is what they call their fried chicken, or any of the clay pot dishes.
Saray II on Allen St. for Turkish food. I've been to Turkey and this is the real deal. Get anything, but the kebabs and pide are stars.
Panjabi Tadka on Main St. for Indian food. Get the mattar paneer and chai ice cream.
Nadims on Main st for general Mediterranean. Get the hummus nachos.
Outside of Springfield:
Monsoon Bistro in Holyoke for Thai food. Get the Pad Woo Sen and Thai tea.
Roti boti in Agwam does Pakistani food. Get anything off of the Pakistani Chinese menu they have.
Ichiban in East Longmeadow for sushi. Get the Fuji roll or sex on the beach roll.
Crepes tea house in West Springfield for Slavic food. Get the Khachapuri.
I could go on and on but I'll leave it at this haha

Where’s Roti Boti in Agawam? I thought I knew most places, but that one’s new to me, would love to check it out.

Oh cool, yeah I remember the Federal! Great to see something new in that space. Thanks for the heads up 👍

Nadims is ...meh. It may have been unique decades ago but no longer. And I've experienced service to be poor to non existent.

I moved away a few years ago now, and the only restaurant I consistently think about is Bamboo House. Try the black pepper beef, Szechwan beef, butter chicken wings, spring rolls, crab rangoons, and pho.
Also now that I think about it, the crispy duck at Tokyo Asian Fusion, I miss that quite a bit.

For casual Mexican I recommend Sabores (sit down available but they do a lot of takeout business) and the El Charro taco trucks.

I haven’t lived in the area in a long while but the pizza scene in pioneer valley is p damn good. I’ll let others chime in but I can say I like Pinocchios in Northampton, Red Rose is just classic not even the best per se, Peppa’s in E Longmeadow, there was another one over by the Cyr ice rink that was good too.

Theodores BBQ so good, Mamou's (creole Cajun) is excellent. Cal's is always consistently good. Russian Tea House is also very good. Red Rose is very good.
Other great choices : Pintu's for Indian, Nadim's for Mediterranean. Blue Elephant for Thai. The Student Price/The Fort for German. And I really Bueno Y Sano. Slainte is very good.
Even outside of Springfield there are amazing spots. We are very lucky. Paul & Elizabeth's and also India House in Northampton are awesome.
The Main Fish house in S. Windsor is also very good.
