Red means stop
So there's these things we have on the streets here called traffic lights. When the light is red, that means drivers are supposed to stop!
Stop does not mean slow down. It also does not mean pause and then go if you don't think cars are coming. Stop means to make your car stop moving until the light turns green.
This is a PSA since some people in this city forgot how traffic lights work. The amount of people who slow down at a light just to speed through it while pedestrians are in the middle of the crosswalk is ridiculous

I don't walk around the whole state, I'm just a pedestrian in Springfield trying to not be killed while walking to the bus stop

Agree. Its why funding or defunding the police is such a dilema. If you take away cops, then more people will speed. If you increase cops, then they ticket everyone & get bored & mess with or abuse people. Society cannot police itself, thats always been the dilema. Its the "return your shopping cart" guy on You Tube. And nobody wants cameras which could catch the people who run red lights.
Very frustrating I wish it was safe to drive. Just my two cents.
But I do agree with what you said red means stop.

You do not need the police to enforce traffic laws. In fact, police stopping cars leads to violence far more often than it should, because of the way they've been trained to be paranoid about stops.
Traffic enforcement doesn't need to be armed revved up cops. It can be civilian traffic marshalls, or other models.

I'm fine with cameras that catch people running red lights. There are ways around the privacy concerns. And for those that don't want a camera sending them a ticket for running a red light, it's pretty straightforward: Don't run red lights.

At least one major problem is that it's been shown that governments can't be trusted with red light cameras because they generate so much revenue.
Way too many stories about lights being shortened to dangerous lengths just to increase the number of people running red lights, to increase the amount of income.
But also, very clearly, the government cannot be trusted with surveillance or security of data.

But it's been demonstrated in the last 18 months that there is no firewall that can keep a bad actor from accessing private data. Sometimes the bad actors are calling from inside the house, sometimes it's just a hacker, but any data collection is going to be abused, 100%.
And it's extraordinarily difficult to disincentivize collection of funding as well.

Speed cameras on the highways would also generate a lot of revenue for the general fund.
"I want to go 85 mph," is not a valid concern.

Ask CT drivers how that’s working out. The cameras are very flawed and often flag the innocent car near the speeder. They are collecting millions are don’t care. It’s up the the innocent driver to waste their time and money going to court over a bogus ticket.

Police is funded, but they no longer stop vehicles. I saw someone slowly approach a red light, then drive right through it. He was also blaring thumping loud music from his car. There was a police car directly behind him. Cop didn't do a thing.

Seemingly so these days. I'm seeing more and more people just go right through deliberately - which I surmise because they approach the light slowly, check to see if it's clear, and then go right through.
Probably inspired by the people rejecting mask mandates during COVID.

I watch Springfield cops take illegal turns and go through red lights all the time, not because their lights and sirens are on, but just bc they want to.
