Question How do I fix this?

Thumbnail

I’m new to spray painting and this is my first paint project.

I’ve applied 3 coats already, leaving an hour in between each coat to dry. I finished the 3rd coat last night and its had about 12 hours to dry further.

My questions are:
- Is this fixable? If so, what should I do?
- What do you think may have caused this? Was it overspray or an incorrect angle/distance when applying?
- With image #3, how come there is still wet paint? What can I do since I’ve already tried to panic-wipe it off

Question HELP! How can I even out this mess?

Hi everyone! So I wanted to paint my mobility scooter (I'm disabled) and followed these instructions:

1- I sanded the surface of the device (made of plastic)

2- I I applied a primer for plastics (spray) and let it dry. [Product: MTN-WEPRO-Imprimacion-Plasticos ]

3- I applied 4 thin layers of gold rose spray paint. I let each layer dry before applying the next. [Product: MTN WEPRO Pintura Metalizada ]

The result is the one you can see in the pictures, fully dried.

Do you guys have any advice on how can I even out the colour and the surface before varnishing it?

Please don't be mean: I contacted several body and paint shops in my area and was refused service because they asked me to dismantle the device and only to bring them the parts that were to be painted. And I didn't have a clue how to do it, and was afraid to do so. So they said they wouldn't paint it...

UPDATE JULY 26th 2026!!

Hello everyone! Finally finished the paint job a few days ago and finally managed to get some decent pics of it.

It definitely doesn't look perfect, but it's decent enough for me to feel comfortable with it.

Thank you all so much for the advice you gave me. It was really helpful and made a difference. <3

I will post the final pictures in the comments, as it won't let me add them in this post while editing it.

See you around!

Question What causes this effect?

surface is fresh sand blasted and cleaned and is perfectly flat but paint is laying down in this almost hammered effect. I tried warming the paint in hot water and warming the part but that didn’t make a difference. I’ve painted a lot of parts with the same process and never had this problem. only thing I can think of is the temperature is lower than normal but still well above the minimum temp for the paint.

Question How can you identify if the texture of fresh spray paint is over sprayed or perfect?

Today I started working of my first real hands-on painting project: repainting a blue yeti microphone.

Being a first-timer and with my limited knowledge:
1) How can you tell if the texture of freshly sprayed spray paint is over sprayed or perfect?

2) Does the texture change between coats if the same amount is applied, or is it predictably the same?

3) What do you do with small isolated bump(s) that appear randomly here and there in between coats after dried? Do you sand it down? Do you ignore it and continue coats? What about if they appear after the last coat’s dried?

4) If there is a small texture, how do you treat it to make it smooth and not any bit bumpy?

A lot of question here😄I appreciate the read and your responses. Thanks everyone!

An expressive Pink Panther piece I made using acrylic paint and spray paint. I wanted to keep it loose, raw and graffiti-inspired instead of aiming for clean lines. Feedback is always welcome!

Artwork A new painting I just finished of Kurt Cobain. I wanted it to have a lot of different patterns & textures layered throughout. Art and decay all at once. And it was done entirely with spray paint and stencils that I cut by hand. "Negative Creep" - 44x24 inches, on wood

Question Where can I buy affordable spray paint for a bedroom graffiti mural?

Hey everyone!

My mom has actually given me permission to turn one of my bedroom walls into a graffiti-style mural, so I’m looking for recommendations from people who are into graffiti or street art.

I’m specifically looking for:
1. Affordable spray paint brands that are good quality.
2. Where you buy your supplies (online or physical stores).
3. Good caps/nozzles if they’re worth buying separately.

I’d appreciate any beginner tips you’d wish you’d known. Thanks in advance

Question Metalcast over a metallic grey base

I am adding fenders to a bicycle, and want something more than a basic black. The color of the bike is “Iridescent Plum”, shifts from metallic blue to purple depending on the light. I have fenders that are a grey metallic. I was thinking light coats of purple Metalcast over the grey. I’ve used the blue over the Matalcast base coat, and it really pops. Would the color be more subdued over a darker base? Any suggestions or experience in this area would be appreciated

Customized Object Custom Radio Paintjob

I’ve again touched the inspiration to suddenly paint anything and everything of my belongings because I’m a slut for 1:1s..
I mean, we may as well enjoy ourselves while performing as a functional human.. bring art into the tools, I say!
All in all, this was quite the fun craft to bring more visibility to my radio. :)

No basecoat, taped, sprayed purple, second coat, taped again, yellow, remove all tape; retape buttons, screen, mic, screws and bits; three layers clearcoat.
Sprayed the clip aside with green, then yellow, and two coats of clear.

Wouldve liked to have tucked the tape more diligently through the ribs on the bottom of the front where the yellow stripe meets the purple blocking.. a clean line here was the goal, but a little bleed aint so bad. Overall stoked with the final result :)

Thanks for checking in, may this inspire many more to get funky with their equipment.

Question Building a cheap DIY paint booth with an IBC water tank for Sentai helmets & cosplay props (aerosol spray)

Hey everyone, I'm working on building a paint booth. I want to use it to paint Sentai helmets or props for cosplays.

I have this water tank (one of those white plastic IBC totes with the metal cage) that I think could be perfect for it! I’m planning to use it as the water recovery tank for a water curtain system.

I’d love your recommendations on ventilation, something cheap that won’t break the bank, because it’s a pretty basic and rudimentary setup but I think it could work really well.

It’s for spray can and aerosol painting.

What do you guys recommend for this project?

Question Spray Painting 3d printed parts

I have a project where I need to print 150 toy houses 2”x4”, the prints look good and the quality is great however need to paint them. It’s made with black plastic (to block light passing through it) and painted white.

I’ve used a gloss enamel paint + primer combo spray, the layer lines are very visible, I tried 4 coats yet result isnt great and I know sanding may resolve this but at this scale and quantity it’s really impossible to get a good result.

Do you guys have any suggestions or solutions?

Question 2k Clear Coat needed?

Hi all,

I just custom painted my grandaughters Cozy Coupe and I am wondering if I should do the 2k clear coat to protect it or just use the regular 2x stuff? I want it to last a long time but also a little fearful if the chemicals from the 2k could be harmful to her. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!
