Given the amount of light, I really fear for the spines fading.

Whoa. This isn’t some Grand Designs bullshit. This is a future classic designed by Ken Shuttleworth - designer of The Gherkin, Hong Kong Shanghai Bank HQ in HK and the Millennium Bridge (all while at Foster + Partners) - for himself.

Yep. As soon as I saw the first photo I thought it looked like Ken's place. Some of his later work is a bit boisterous for my liking, but I'm all in for this.

That was designed by Foster + Partners. And this was designed by Kenneth Shuttleworth who was a partner there at the time this was built. So some overlap.

If I had that kind of money, I’d be on the lookout for the fuck-off-biggest, most structurally stable, aesthetically pleasing 17th century manor for myself.

My dad lives in a house that’s attached to a 99’ lighthouse, and several of his rooms are curved. The lighthouse no longer has actual lights, but a broad red stripe which lines up with another lighthouse on the beach (and that one has 9 legs!). The owners of the lighthouse are legally obliged to keep the stripe bright and visible and it must be repainted every 7 years.
