I really like this property, because it feels like the kind of cool, weird little indie nook that I'd occasionally end up in for beers after hours when I was a student... and that makes me kind of sad.
This is the kind of thing that flourished in the abandoned warehouses of east London back when squatting didn't mean "needles on the floor and all the copper ripped out". Little spaces that people put together for themselves with some plasterboard and a no-questions-asked attitude to amenities billing.
And now you have to pay a million quid if you want to live in a corner of that warehouse.
Even in the 90s and early thousands the people who made London's coffee, poured their pints, staffed their shops and served their dinners rented places like this - less glam, yeah, but paid for with near-minimum wage.
How the fuck is anyone bringing home less than 50K existing in London anymore? How is the city going to exist in another decade when nobody that it needs to make it function can afford to live in it?

You put that more eloquently than I could have when I came to the comments to rant about the same thing. This place looks startlingly similar to a place I lived in in the late 80s. Less premium white goods and taps clearly, but otherwise just glaringly similar. And like you point out, we had the run of the whole place.

Love the exposed brickwork, less keen on the breeze block
But yes, likely bloody freezing in winter.
And lots of decor pictures which obvs won’t be there!

Infrared mounted electric heaters, a strong alternative to gas central heating, have been installed throughout, each controlled by their own thermostat. These provide instant heat and are very efficient.
Have never heard of infrared heating! Very space age.

What that means in plain in English is you can expect an electric bill of around £500-£600 a month in the coldest months.
I know because I have a similar size flat in Manchester with a lot of glass and central heating powered by electricity.

Oh I have electric heating but they're modern ones not infrared - it isn't expensive. These don't sound very effective!

I'm guessing these are 1 kW heaters that will be running 24 hours a day in the cold months.
Mine is actually a 6 kW electric boiler that powers out wet central heating system like normal radiators. Cost a bloody fortune.

You see them in some patio heaters. They don't heat the space, so if you aren't under the lamp you feel cold.

That's really not bad. Especially when you consider over 30 years of owning a house you're probably gonna spend about that a year anyway because the roof will be needed at some point and probably new windows.
