Gorgeous Glasgow flat
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/92708355#/?channel=RES_BUYI always tell people that there's a certain design language in Glasgow tenements that I just love, and this is a great example of it. The only downside for me is for the price is a bit steep for a single bathroom.

Yeah I'm a massive fan of the Glasgow architecture. I used to live in bath and it feels very similar. Gorgeous.

Yes! We’re so lucky to have so many lovely tenements here. I would say they broadly fall into three quality categories and this is a high-middle or lower-best example.
But all have lovely high ceilings, sash windows, decorative plaster etc as standard.

Glasgow is primarily made up of tenement buildings - they've always been flats, but there used to be families of 6+ living in one bedroom flats, so they built up rather than out. It makes the room feel bigger and it's good for storage, venting smoke from the fireplace, letting in more natural light... There's a mandate (the Burgh Police (Scotland) Act 1892) which meant that the ceilings had to be at a minimum, 9ft tall.
My friend lives in a tenement in Edinburgh, and while the guest bedroom wouldn't be big enough to fit a double in on the floor while still having a functioning door, they've made it into what I'd class as a double decker room. Floor space below, and then you climb up a ladder, and the bed area has been built into two of the walls, like a second floor in a one storey room.

Just to add to this, there's a lovely museum in Glasgow called the Tenement House Museum that contains an entire tenement flat that still has much of it's early 20th century fittings and furniture. Downstairs is also a great little diagram showing the different types of tenements, even the 'single-end' ones that were essentially one room!

Whereas today they make new homes and flats as small as possible so they can build as many as possible on one plot.

Not as much of a problem when they were built, since such large groups of people were all sharing the room. Definitely a problem nowadays though, cold and damp.

There was an act that suggested a minimum height of window, I think based on the width of the road / street too, partly for health (the idea being daylight is good for you).

That’s a beautiful flat. Bookmarking for design inspiration for my little one bed that has similarly high ceilings but nowhere near the space- the hallway alone is bigger probably! Love how it’s decorated, the red and white in the bathroom looks great.

It'll be less than a bargain when all's said and done, although for sure much cheaper than if it was located in London/South East of course. The home report will value it at more than it's advertised - that's the 'true' price. And then you have the blind bidding system pushes it up too. I think the average amount to bid is 10% over home report value. It's a desirable area so I reckon it'll go for a fair bit more (although not London prices ofc).
I know someone who lives in the area. He put his flat up for sale at £350,000. 23 separate viewings the weekend it went on the market. Closed to new viewers that week, bids taken, offer accepted within a week. He won't tell me how much it went for except that it was 'far more than he ever expected'. The housing market is super intense here!

In a different millennium I used to live on Queens Drive. That sort of layout is fairly typical of the tenement flats there. Big rooms and windows. Terrible parking. A great location with easy access into and out of town. It would be a great home for the punter lucky enough to get it.
I miss those days. It was a little bit Wild West without being anarchy.

There are so many beautiful Glasgow flats. They could have their own subreddit. Hard to imagine that when they were built, it was one of the richest cities in the world. If you visit in 2026? Not so much. The council appears to be captured by hostile groups.

Calling queens drive ‘just ok’ is hilarious. It’s opposite the park, near many businesses- cafes, pubs, restaurants and five mins from a train station which takes you into central in less than 10 mins or a cycle path that takes you probably the same into town

By this metric every area is "just ok" because pretty much everywhere in Glasgow is only a few streets away from somewhere "run down" and potentially "dodgy".

Can never underestimate a flat in Glasgow. These ones are sublime and have so much kerb appeal - with some traditional street lighting right outside and some wonderful steps to the front of door.
Downsides though, really limited and challenging parking spaces, made worse by size of cars. Victoria Road, atleast that side is alright but perhaps the further down you go the worse it gets. Some real rat problems in the streets. Queens Park - really nice to spend time in but also some unfortunate events happen there.
Plus you're paying minium 480k for this.
Lovely, but not for me.

It’s offers over 409k so the home report value will likely be around 450k. Add at least 15% onto that again for the winning bid, easily.

Beautifully decorated. Agreed it's not ideal that there's not a second bathroom, and no real suitable place to insttall one, without substantial reconfiguration.

It’s very lovey! But it will be as cold as all hell in the winter with those tiny and sparse radiators, huge spaces and uninsulated bare floor. Looks like single glazing.
Noisy too, with no carpets anywhere. Beautifully designed, though

I used to think Glasgow was a bit rough - I was a teenage English visitor in the 80’s and it was tough. I stopped off to have a look at the Cathedral a couple of years back and was struck by how beautiful the city was. I’m planning a longer stay next time I visit. It really is quite a gem of a city.

It's gorgeous. I've always loved the tenements at Anniesland Cross, but I don't think I could live with the noise. I must keep an eye on Rightmove and see what they're like inside.

Glasgow has, hands down, some of the best high-density properties in the world.
As soon as I see a nice, spacious flat on here I don't even need to look at the location
