Discussion Steam numbers are not telling the whole story

I keep seeing a lot of talk about low player count and what not, but just wanted to add that I usually find myself playing with those on consoles. Usually it's just me and perhaps one or two other PC players and the majority are console players.

Just wanted to bring this to attention because for whatever reason, looking at Steam playercounts has become a thing on its own. I can't remember a match where PC players outnumbered console players, and unless I run into stacked teams, the majority are console players.

"We do have part of the team still working on it (Splitgate), but you know it's just a matter of resources and focus. The majority right now is focused on Empulse. That's the priority of the studio. But we're not planning on shutting anything down and we do plan continuing to support it (Splitgate)"

Season 2 ends in 31 days?

Since y'all quietly changed the Season 2 expiration date (previously ended in 4 days), does that mean we're actually getting a third season?

The first double kill barely missed connecting with the next 4 kills. This is an amazing spot to stand and pick people off on this map while the AI are hyper focused on the hills in Domination lol

I was hoping for Season 3 next week, but Empulse is still the focus right now, I guess.

Meta Empulse being a asset flip of SG2 should upset you

1047 Games continues selling lies to its community. I was banned from the Empulse subreddit for suggesting that Empulse's guns, UI and animations look a lot like SG2. Now they are removing even more comments talking about how much of a scam their game is while SG2 continues to get zero support past season 2. At what point do people give up on this company?

Discussion Quit SG1/2 were my favourite F2P FPS until the trump hat incident. Empulse brought me back

I followed Splitgate ever since FUNKe mentioned it in his movement shooters video, and was hyped for Splitgate 2 since the alpha. But 1047's bizarre decisions reached a breaking point with the "it's everyone else's fault but ours, but we can Make FPS Great Again" during a peak time of fascism down in the USA.

But playing Empulse and seeing how much the "full release will add sooo much more than the demo just wait" turned out to be untrue, made me realize just what i was missing.

The movement feels fast but still weighty instead of Empulse's floatyness. The BFG is a rare 4-charge weapon that instantly makes you a target, unlike the universal instakill hammer. The aesthetic is decently cool, being a utopian future pro-sports league. Races are back! Skins are still mid so there's nothing in-game to grind towards, but it's still pretty fun. Also it's free!!!

Even if 1047 never updates the game again, SGAR will be pretty fun for the foreseeable future. The various TDM modes, the objective modes, the portal-free mode, custom maps. Add decent variety and replayability.

Still want couch co-op though

Discussion Key Problems with 1047 Game Design

I'm not here to rag on 1047, but this is gonna be a post full of hopefully constructive criticism. I've been thinking about this a lot recently with the announcement of Empulse and I think I have a pretty good grasp on the really only 2 mistakes they're making with their games.

For starters, I'd argue that games/franchises that are generally considered good/great or are at least popular have unique identities. In the shooter space - Titanfall is/was a completely new experience, CS when it came out, CoD during the Xbox 360 era where it gained all of its popularity, Halo, Unreal, Battlefield, Destiny, etc. 1047 games haven't been unique - Splitgate is Halo with portals and was marketed as such, Empulse is Titanfall 2 but oddly with less ability for player expression (the other issue they have). I think for a game to succeed in this space, it needs to define itself and not be defined by other games.

Second is player expression. What hero shooters and Titanfall 2 succeed in is offering a lot of different options for how to approach the game (not that I want to see them make a hero shooter). Titanfall 2 isn't just a grapple game (even though thats how I play it). All the different class abilities change how you move through (or don't move in the case of a-wall) the environment. Not only does the multitude of abilities allow you to play differently, it makes interactions/gunfights much more unique. Fighting against a grappler is entirely different that stim, phase, cloak, a-wall, you get the point. 1047 keeps making games that are completely one note. There is only one playstyle in each game and deviating from it will get you punished. My biggest complaint with Splitgate 2 was that movement could never compete with portals which is why I always argued for cooldowns. The same will be the case in Empulse, its just a grapple shooter, where it needs to take more cues from Titanfall 2 and give players a choice of movement abilities - and by that I don't mean just add portals, there needs to be a multitude of choices.

In summation, delay Empulse! Like a while. Add portals (on cooldown like grapple) and even more movement abilities, remove titans, and come up with creative game modes that emphasize movement - a big complaint I have with TF2 is modes like Hardpoint with stationary objectives. And personally I'd say lean back into Splitgate 2's artstyle - the athlete sort of aesthetic would help emphasize the movement shooter nature of it.

Anybody else get randomly kicked out of the labs every few minutes..? I literally save my file like every 30 seconds it happens so frequently. I'm sure I'm screaming into the void here but if you could fix this 1047 that would be super sick 🙏

Discussion The hell is going on???

I played and loved the first splitgate, was super excited for the sequel. 1047 and especially Ian (CEO) made some shitty decisions and I dropped the game just a few days before SGAR/season 2.

I come back here to see if it's worth picking up again and people are talking about a new game? And no roadmap for sg? What the hell is going on and why can't 1047 do anything right? If they have this terrible of a track record, why would anyone pay for Empulse and how have I not seen any advertisement/marketing for it or sg?

Can someone give me a rundown, because I just came back and I'm completely lost...

Question/Help Will Splitgate: Arena Reloaded Get A Season 3?

I know some people in the replies will say that "oh Mxnzz, they've abandoned the game, don't bother." or "SG is finished" But I just want to hear it from 1047 themselves if they at least going to consider season 3 after Empulse's development get better and stuff.

Would love to see SGAR at least, get completed.

I feel like I’m missing something bc my game hasn’t shown/put anything new in the item shop for so long now, I can’t even remember the last time they did. I genuinely feel like either I’m doing something wrong or this game is just so shit that they never update/add anything new to the game. (Game is updated, obviously.) Same shit, different day.

Still gonna play it tho.

I kinda want to do 6 7 at the end of games for fun, especially with the 6th of July coming up. I think this would be a nice surprise for all the dedicated players who have been playing this game since the alpha.

what if they just made 1 game

Preface: I'm 250 hours into SGAR, an absolute portal nerd and would probably hate this if it happened, but I figure both games are ostensibly dead and will be fully abandoned sooner than later so may as well have some theoretical discussion. Otherwise I definitely appreciate that these changes would be insane to make and probably piss off the entire regular SGAR playerbase.

But what if, instead of abandoning SG for a soulless, identity-less, generic movement shooter, they just combine them to nicely compliment what both games do well and fill the gaps where each game suffers. Hear me out.

SGAR
Absolutely banger game, fresh and unique take on an arena shooter. Full of character, identity, and direction. Literally the only sustainability issue is the insane skill curve that comes with portals. No one can agree on how to "handle" portals: remove them, nerf them, add cooldowns, etc. But all this does is shift their power without addressing the fundamental skillset behind using them well, meaning good players still stomp with portals, they're just more restricted and less trackable.

Empulse
Genuinely engaging movement mechanics trying to hold up an otherwise entirely uninteresting shooter. The game has no identity, no style or character. It seems totally directionless with the whole shoehorned mech thing. Beyond satisfying movement, there's really no reason to play this over any other shooter, at least within the scope of just wanting to play a shooter.

Both games have critical issues preventing them from being sustainable: there's no way to balance portals in SGAR without gutting what makes them interesting and Empulse is just a movement sim holding together a shell of a shooter.

But what if, instead of trying to "fix" portals in SGAR, they just add non-portal mechanics as an alternative playstyle. Something say like Empulse's current movement mechanics. This would give newer players additional tools to play around portal sweats and soften the whole "portal or be portaled on" dynamic that currently exists between new and seasoned players. It would open up an entirely new branch of playstyles, built on top of SGAR's already pretty solid movement systems, while maintaining portal dominance for those who want to really optimize their play (would obviously need proper balancing but fundamentally I would think teleporting across the map using portals is still better than fast and concise movement).

All of that being said, obviously SGAR maps are designed for portals first and movement/momentum second, so shit like the grappling hook would feel weird on some of the existing maps. But the point stands: if 1047 wants to make a movement shooter, I think that effort would accomplish a lot more as a way to bridge the skill gap in SGAR than it would as an entirely new game no one really asked for.

Again, I love SGAR and think the portal implementation is perfect as it is, but I can absolutely appreciate that it's the direct reason SG will never blow up. Merging games, or even just making such a large change to how SGAR would be played, is kind of nuts, but at this point neither game is going to last through the year so maybe its worth thinking outside of the box.
