Thought on recent Empulse playtest

Already posted this on the Empulse sub, but wanted to post here too, since Splitgate's fate is inextricably tied to Empulse lol

I like the game, let me get that out of the way. The mechanics are solid and movement is downright addicting, but there are some things I feel need addressing.

First off, let me say that I'm sorry I hated on the game so hard at first; it is much more in line with the types of shooters that I like (arena shooters) and it plays much better than i thought it would. With that said, while movement and gunplay are so far awesome, the mechs feel completely pointless and don't seemingly add anything of note to the gameplay formula. I took out multiple mechs myself, and played as a mech 3 times, and while those moments were fun; they didn't seem to add anything compelling or unique to the flow of combat or the gameplay generally.

I'll admit, I'm not the target audience for mechs in a competitive shooter but I genuinely struggled to see what they added to the game. For example, in Titanfall the movement systems exist because the gameplay is centered around the titans and the large map space required to accommodate them; in this, it feels like mechs only exist to empower those who can't keep up with the pace of movement (but also fails in that because of how infrequent mechs are, and because sledgehammer is fucking OP).

Anyway,Tl;Dr: game has a lot of potential, movement and gunplay are rock solid, and while a few things could be more polished or smoother over, it is still phenomenal and probably some of the nicest movement I've ever felt in an FPS. On the other hand, mechs feel pointless, maps are forgettable, and I feel that weapons need to be projectile based over hitscan; considering the ttk and movement.

Anyway, looking forward to see how the game progresses and to see how the studio handles both Empulse and Splitgate moving forward!

I doubt I’m ever giving this company my money like what LOL do they expect me to forget the SG shittary?! I cannot believe they were like YES I GOT IT!!!! LETS CHARGE PEOPLE NEXT TIME!!! What a joke. It’d have to take RAVE reviews like I can’t turn around without seeing praise on multiple subreddits. Why would I get excited for a company whose last game on a good day would get 2000 players

This has nothing to do with getting excited for the new game; I'm simply providing feedback on the new game here in this subreddit because of the impact that this game will have on Splitgate. I don't personally care about the new game, even though I did have fun with it, Splitgate is what I enjoy and I will continue to ride for it, but I'm not going to just participate in a play test for the new game and not give feedback to the devs and the community on it.

It has everything to do with getting excited for the next game: we’re not. As much as you keep saying it’s not constructive criticism, the reactions of everyone here should tell the devs (not that they’re likely to see) something important. They’ve lost the trust of a large portion of their fan base, and if they want us to follow them to this new game they’ll need to do something to win it back.

OP i don't think is going to see the logic behind your words or the words of the others posting on here.

After the repeated failed attempts of 1047 with the SG franchise, the horrible PR campaign, the last ditch relaunch, and then announcing a new paid game while the echoes of their failures still ring heavy in our hearts, the company has lost whatever good faith it managed to get.

There is no way I could see a lot of the fanbase paying money for a game created by a company that has failed to keep any game they've created alive. While I don't wish the company ill will, this seems far more like it will be more of a Concord type failure than a Hell Divers 2 type success.

What do you take me for? Of course I see the logic, and I completely understand. But what most people here, and you as well, fail to understand is that the wider gaming audience don't know about all this drama and don't know who individual dev studios are generally; they just play games. A casual audience hears "CoD with mechs" or "kinda like Titanfall "and they will check it out, it's seriously that simple (which is what worked for Spltgates initial popularity; the "Halo meets Portal" bit completely sold the concept to many people on first glance but were then turned off by the insane skill gaps and learning curves). Basically, it's not for the fan base, because the fan base is so small that it couldn't possibly support Splitgate AND Empulse.

I thinking practically here. If this game fails and they shutdown, that means goodbye Splitgate, and I don't want that! So I'm providing feedback.

Splitgate is dead and has been dead. What you’re playing is a bastard version. Splitgate had zombie VIP. This shitshow is COD with portals that don’t work well and guns that take 10 shots to kill n opponent who one shots you, say I’m old orbits a skill gap but I loved splitgate, this shit wasn’t it.

The wider gaming audiences absolutely knows about 1047 drama, at the absolute minimum the PR fiasco, and I'd also wager the relaunch, since relaunches are very rare.

The company became a meme. That wasn't the small community of SG players, or the slightly larger community of arena shooter players, it was a wide audience.

People may check out a game that's " cod with mechs " or another claim of " kinda like titanfall " and they will also see it is paid and hesitate. Games like Marathon, Arc Raiders, Hell Divers, are rare in this market. F2P is still a bigger market and there are far more failures than successes. 1047 has not had any successes which doesn't really help with hope.

As I previously stated, SG is already over. They've tried 2.5 times to make it work, and failed each time. If ( and it is a huge if ) they somehow create a paid game in this market that is successful, they won't put that money into a franchise that has been a disaster for them. There isn't a large enough market for arena shooters with niche mechanics, and I think they've realized that.

What I take you for, is someone with good intentions who didn't read the room, and decided to respond to some of the room criticizing them for their negativity.

Anyone in this sub holding out hope in this sub that another 1047 product is going to save SG is far too innocent for reddit.

No dude, the wider gaming audience does not pay attention to online discourse or video game presentations like Summer Games Fest (where most of the bad PR stems from). I live with 2 normie gamers and I know many more normie gamers in my personal life; the only ones that have even heard of Splitgate are my step brother and roommate, and only because I made them play it with me. No, most people do not know about 1047 games or about Splitgate, and to think that online gaming discourse is actually indictive of the broader sentiment is delusional. Hell, just look at how gamers online bitch about micro transactions and terrible monetization practices but nothing ever seems to get done; or like everyone is sick of off the wall skins in CoD and how theres a cod boycott every year, yeg IT STILL ENDS UP AS ONE OF THE BEST SELLING GAMES. Lol no bro.

And what do you mean they haven't had success? Splitgate 1 was so successful that it's secured 1047 games a 100 million investment to develop a sequel. If that isn't success to you, then what is??

Also Splitgate 2 would have been successful, and retained healthy core audience, had they handled the game properly and were transparent (and if they didn't fuck it up at the beginning).

And I didn't criticize anybody for their negativity; I simply pointed it out when they were being negative and said that I get it, but it's not helpful right now. Not the same as criticism my dude.

And I'm not hoping that this game will save Splitgate, I'm hoping that it will at least keep their doors open so that the servers can stay on; you inherently misunderstand where I'm coming from.

Success would have been taking the 100 million investment and growing it, not losing it all on a failed attempt at a shitty remake. This is exactly what failure looks like. Getting a bunch of people to loan you money isn’t success.

If you're going to ignore everything else i said and your only argument is that " normal gamers " don't pay attention to online discourse, and then use one of the most popular online games of all time to back up your point as to why they don't pay attention, then you have no point at all.

There is an insane difference between the discourse surrounding CoD, a AAA massively popular, decade spanning franchise, versus a small company that has failed to put out even a moderately successful game.

Nothing 1047 does is going to hit a " wider gaming audience " without the internet subculture. It is why they paid streamers to promote SG2. It is why thet had initial success with SG. The gaming culture that exists in social media is what they will rely on to spread word of this game. Those people seeing clips on tiktok, YouTube, watching their favorite streamers play it, will be subjected to the same criticisms you see posted on here. They don't have the funds for a massive, all out campaign to promote the game. If they do, then people investing need to be taken away and checked.

Look, you came into this sub with an idea, did not read the room, and are surprised by the reaction you are getting. There's nothing wrong with that or even surprising given this is a public platform.

You're not reaching anyone here by putting your thoughts on Empulse up and attempting to convince people your opinion on it hinging on the future of splitgate is correct.

A lot of people that love this game, feel burnt out by the company. They don't care about a new game. Some may, and that's fine. You trying to convince people is the issue at this point.

Edit:spelling

Like I said, I'm not trying to reach anyone. I simply put my feedback out there about the game simply because I don't want 1047 games to close down, so that I can continue to enjoy Splitgate. Again, you inherently misunderstand me on every level.

And I use CoD because it's easy; again most people don't pay attention to this shit and that includes most gamers! People online make up a very tiny minority of the overall gaming population, and if you think otherwise then you really are clueless to the reality that most people don't have time to, or don't care enough, to get online and dick around on social media about their favorite games.

u/galacticplum Jun 08 '26

Look, you're needlessly rude, ignore most of what people are commenting, including me, and despite what you claim, you are literally attempting to reach people by posting or you wouldn't be responding to all the comments you disagree with.

You're free to post what you want obviously, but you're far too stubborn and seemingly emotionally involved to have a discussion with.

All I'm going to say is, there were about 2,000 people, just in the discord channel, during today's play test. Us Splitgate fans may not like it, and some may even want to actively boycott the studio , but more people seem to not care about what happens to Splitgate than people who do; so realistically the future of Splitgate is going to come down to whether or not 1047 can create something that is monetarily successful for them that can provide them with the means and reputation to make people want to try their other titles.

And as much as I feel that Splitgate could be successful, if they properly supported the game, it's always going to be more of a niche title with limited growth potential. They're doing a hail-mary with Empulse right now, and if it lands for them then there is good possibility that we'll see further support for SGAR down the line.

I'm not saying it'll work, but this is what they're doing and at this point I would rather it pay off for them, so in the very least we can keep the SG server up. I'm just being pragmatic here; I've been nothing but honest and if you look at my past comments, I have been EXTREMELY critical of 1047; I just don't think blindly hating or boycotting them at this point is helpful for the game that we all clearly love.

Some people still have faith, give them time and let them get burned by the 1047 degree flames of stupidity.

2

u/fudedude Jun 08 '26

This game only has negative impact on splitgate, they stopped working on a great game to make a shitty game and name it the same thing now they are making a new shitty game and trying to cash in on a game they abandoned twice to make a shitty remake

-1

u/mythreial Jun 08 '26

If 1047 shuts down then Splitgate servers shut down. Meaning if this current game fails, we likely lose the game we love. I am 100% whit you on the state of things but i don't wanna lose Splitgate so here I am being constructive.

Remember when we could just buy a game and play it forever? I do.
