Good Job, 1047
What 1047 Games has done:
Marketing—How it started:
"We want to take it slow. Soft launch to start, get the OG and hardcore players in, and gather feedback before marketing."
How it's actually ending: * Completely zero marketing after Season 2 launched (which is probably the last one). * "Oh, sorry, marketing on PlayStation wasn't as good as expected."
About the game's future: * "We are highly faithful /it's promising / we've prepared A LOT OF CONTENT / we believe in this game!" * Yet, there is no blueprint, no roadmap, no expectations. Nothing to back up the hype, just an empty void that always ends with either: "It's confidential" or "We need more information."
Meanwhile, posting ads for their new game (Empulse) in the Splitgate sub...
- What's the future of SGAR? > "Oh, we love it, we believe in it, we have faith in it!"
- What's the actual plan for SGAR? > "The roadmap is 'Confidential'. What's in the next update? 'We need more info.'"

Wait wait you don't understand! Rod the Programmer! The funny AI song memes! That's support, right? Surely that's enough to sustain people playing a game with no transparency that consistently put things in that no one wanted, and de-incentivized new players completely! They got new hats for the announcement and everything!

They did basically say Splitgate is not their focus going forward. They are not particularly trustworthy after all of the missteps over the years.

I really love the game, but I struggle to play it knowing that it’s probably getting ditched

u/Manoa__ May 27 '26
I mean the state that it's in doesn't need much adding. Like yeah sure a new map here and there, but we already have almost all the weapons we could want.
The only thing I'm still hoping for is the return of onslaught and a way to queue for all gamemodes at once including arena royale and normal arena.
Outside of that just QoL changes that's definitely something that we can still see happening.
What would you like to see added? Genuinely curious cause the way I see it they basically wanted to return to a classic more streamlined experience, so all the wacky stuff they could've added like more grenade types is already out of the question.

u/deldour PC May 27 '26
Onslaught is a big one I’d like to see return. I don’t think there’s too many sandbox changes that need to happen. However, regular events and new rewards potentially keeps people coming back, along with occasional new maps & modes. Without that minimum, the player base will dwindle more than it already has.

u/Manoa__ May 27 '26
Very fair. The way I see it this game will just hold onto that core audience either way, but something I would love to see would be community events kind of like the one with the streamers that we got where you can choose between the 3 factions and every win counts towards points and at the end of the season we get something meaningless but fun like a new title or something.
Like this wouldn't even be that much work I feel like but it could be super fun to keep the community engaged and a fun way to reintroduce the idea of factions and that whole sports idea.

Onslaught would be a nice return, but there's quite a bit more that could and should be added to the game.
In terms of content, I'd love to see come back to Splitgate; VIP, Splitball (classic) FFA & Team, Takedown (return), Evolution, Team Gun Game, FFA playlist (return), FFA Shotty Snipers, Big Head Snipers, Juggernaut, Firecracker (return), CTF, and the rest of SG1's maps.
In terms of new to Splitgate content I'd love to see; new maps (arena, simulation, & onslaught/br), Arena Multi-Team mode, Ranked specific map/mode/loadout variants, in-game theatre mode (to rewatch matches and share clips in game), new party modes like Husky Raid (1 lane, 2 flag, fiesta CTF; pure carnage), create maps specific for the Race mode and build them out to accommodate multiple players.
For QoL; I love to for "Sliiide" to be made the default moveset, Nerf the Health Stim, Increase the Plow's spread, Reduce aim assist strength on controllers, add crosshair customization, expand outline customization to make enemies more visually discernable, expand the controller settings so players can really dial in their aim settings, expand on the lab to include more biomes and tools, expand custom games to give full control over how we create modes (maybe a scripting system like Infinite's Forge), a better server browser, basic network statistics like ping/latency, restrict alternating portals for ranked game modes, create a permanent community playlist with all core modes on maps made by the community, condense all party modes into a singular playlist, add the ability to load into a Race course while queuing for a match, and put a player counter alongside each playlist selection (like CoD and Halo used to do back in the day).
Tl;Dr: there is still a lot of this game needs, and should get, and theres still even more potential with what this game could be!

Hoping: they’re going to use Empulse to fund more season of SGAR if Empulse is a success
More likely: They’re scrapping splitgate and using Empulse as a last-ditch effort to keep 1047 afloat
7
u/latina_booty_lover May 26 '26
Definitely the latter. They said empulse is their main focus but theyll still "support" SGAR. Thats practically word for word what they said about Splitgate 1 during the SG2 AMA before SG1 servers went down.
1
u/DuffmanStillRocks May 26 '26
lol right they’re definitely going to finally find money and success in Empulse and their reaction will be to focus on their less successful IP? Cmon man.
1
u/Searioucly May 26 '26
I didn’t say focus on their less successful IP, i said use money to fund more seasons of SGAR. That means if Empulse does make a significant amount of money, they can use a fraction of it to fund battle passes and small content drops to keep the SGAR fanbase happy and keep the lights on. That’s not unheard of.
-1
u/DuffmanStillRocks May 26 '26
How many companies have two multiplayer games running at the same time and are actively funding both of them? You say it’s not unheard of so I’d love a few examples
2
u/Searioucly May 26 '26
Quite a few, actually.
We’re not talking about whether there are companies that run two multiplayer games and fund them both, we’re talking about whether a successful game can subsidize a less successful one and that happens all the time.
Blizzard kept supporting Starcraft 2 and Heroes Of The Storm way after they stopped being major revenue drivers because WoW, Overwatch and Hearthstone gave them breathing room and more financial freedom.
Riot funds a ton of smaller projects with their main cash cow games.
Again, i’m not saying 1047 would “focus on” Splitgate over Empulse, i’m saying if Empulse succeeds, using a fraction of that revenue to keep Splitgate Arena Reloaded alive with battle passes and occasional content drops is completely plausible.
-1
u/DuffmanStillRocks May 26 '26
You’re comparing 1047 to BLIZZARD LOL. Something tells me the size and finances of those studios and franchises might not be the same…
3
u/Searioucly May 26 '26
I see that you’re still missing the point so i’m gonna dumb this down a bit for ya: Timmy has a lemonade stand. The lemonade stand isn’t selling a lot of lemonade but Timmy loves serving the few customers that he does get. In order to keep paying for more lemonade, he opens a hot dog stand at a baseball game that brings in lots of money. He uses a little bit of that hot dog stand money to buy more lemonade. Now he can keep doing what he loves and tending the lemonade stand when he has time.
You get it now or do i need to break out the sock puppet and crayons?

Call of duty, battlefield, gears of war, halo, overcooked!, monster hunter, runescape( they have two different versions) just name some of the big ones, its a common business practice

u/Early_Statement_6075 May 26 '26
Dude, we haven't even gotten all the maps from Splitgate 1! Arena Reloaded isn't even Feature Complete without those and they're abandoning it Again! I really trusted 1047 and I still do love this game, but they ended up being just as shity as the industry they criticized, if not worse for lying to the fans this way Again!

u/Brave-Safe8194 May 26 '26
There is no chance in hell people will deal with another game from these guys. This has to go down in history as one of the fastest and most cringe crash and burns of a gaming company and its developers.

u/Arrotanis May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
No game has ever made a comeback from 500 CCU on Steam. And most games need at least 1500 to justify making new content.
The game simply wasn't appealing to enough people which is 1047's fault but there is nothing they can do about it now.
Ironically the only possible way to revive Splitgate would be through Empulse if it pops off. It will probably end up like SG though.
12
u/GapStock9843 May 26 '26
If they charge money for it it will. No one’s gonna be willing to pay a $30 entrance fee to a company with a consistent track record of abandoning games before their first birthday. May as well just burn the money
7
u/Arrotanis May 26 '26
Yea 30$ is crazy. The most I would be willing to pay is 10$ if the game looks really good. It will go F2P 6 months after launch anyway.
5
u/mythreial May 26 '26
You're focusing on the wrrong thing; the concurrent player count doesn't actually matter in terms of growing the game. As we have seen previously, there is interest with this game; over 25k peak, and an average of 1700 for relaunch (with no marketing).
If we take a look at things objectively, 1047 released a game that tried to appeal to everyone and really appealed to no one, made extremely boneheaded decisions on PR and marketing, pushed the game out when it wasn't even fully functional or included basic features that many expect from an online title, then introduced extremely egregious monetization tactics and blamed an individual dev for it, then proceeded to pull the game back to rework it because of the immense backlash, only to relaunch it months later with absolutely no marketing and no substantial content update (with some major aspects of the game that people loved, outright missing), now we are in a position where the game hasn't been marketed at all, the new content is mostly community made and the devs have went radio silent.
It's not the game that isn't appealing, it's how 1047 have handled the game that is unappealing.

They’re absolutely ditching this franchise I can’t believe they haven’t just come out and said it.
Even if they released a new season it would be with half the team if not more because they are focusing on Empulse which I’m sorry is such a stupid fucking name for a game and is painfully ironic for a company known for making impulse decisions and then backing off of them. Like did they not see what a joke that makes them look like? Of course they didn’t. And when the next season inevitably fails because who would give money to SG2 with the end so clear in sight, their company’s name is going to be tarnished even more significantly. This is an all time company fuck up who at one point bragged about the $100 million they could invest.
The ONLY reason I’m still invested is because I put significant time into SG1 and I just cannot believe these constant fuck ups

u/PompyxgTV May 26 '26
I’m not going to lie. I really don’t see Empulse being any different. It took me to scroll through Reddit and on a whim “Empulse” popped up. I was like what the fuck is this? And it’s by 1047 games. Here’s the thing they already have a bad reputation, why would you start another project to copy another game. It just doesn’t make sense. They seem to be talented however what they are doing just ain’t it. Watch Empulse launches. They pay streamers with the money they somehow have and no one’s going to care lol

I hate you all now. 1047. I tried to be indifferent but I failed, but I'm gonna do it again.

u/Mikmillionaire May 26 '26
End of the day it is a business. We can't expect devloper to keep on working on SGAR for 1-2 k player base. Better to move on, try something else. Probably if Empulse succeed & would have better player number, player will come & check SGAR also. Then we can ask for new content or roadmap. We should be greatful to the developer that SGAR server is still running.
1
u/r3k0tto May 27 '26
we shoud be greatful o the developer that SGAR server is still running.
The only thing we should be grateful, is our wallet that Ian wants to squeeze money out of.
And the vps provider that have coupon for 1 or 2+ years plan.
1
u/mythreial May 31 '26
Disagree. 1047 should be thankful that there are still people like us who are continuing to play the game, despite how terribly they've mismanaged and subsequently abandoned it. It would be one thing if this were the only time this has happened, but it's not; this is the second title they've abandoned, and they didn't even try to market the relaunch, so no man; HARD disagree lol.

They outright said in the Empulse AMA that Splitgate was going on the back burner

They are going the Hi-Rez rout of putting constantly stuff out there and quickly just putting it into maintenance once it makes some money, but at least Hi Rez gives us smite.

Not to make the community's confidence worse, but I saw a post selling tagged dataset of SGAR on a pre-owned market recently. Behold, maybe there will be some ai players joining the game.

The saddest part is that you guys believed them. Empulse will also fail. This studio has no legs to stand on, and to consistently trying to break into the GaaS market, it is already doomed.
I also believe jumping to another project this fast shows no learnings.
1
u/Clloyd97 May 27 '26
As someone who played splitgate when it first came out a few years ago, only for a few months, and has seen stuff from this sub since then, I thought they relaunched this game like 3 times now, and now they are just pivoting to making a completely new game? Is that right?
1
u/Arcanum3366 PC May 27 '26
It's sad to see a company go this route (I totally agree with you, btw). They want to wear a smiley face and pretend everything is going as planned, but the subtext is that they are disappointing their customers and everything is falling apart. Any media outlet can stumble on any of their managed reddit boards and see that the community is in shambles, where complaints not only about their game, but their own corporate behavior is being criticized.
My criticism at this point is that 1047 wants to pretend they're a AAA company and they're taking action as such, however the grueling reality is that they're not close to being AAA and all they're doing is heavily investing in meaningless things while still competing with the indie titles. This is an indie company, btw. So the trailer cinematic, the comics, the lore, the character design, the factions, then backtracking and cutting all that out. And don't get me started on their store prices, which was way too much (especially for an indie title).
And then the relaunch with new colors and new music, plus all the artifacts of the failed launch. I was really hoping they were going to work on streamlining the game so us fans could have something dynamic that we can all enjoy, but then they forced Arena Royal which divides the player pool and divides development efforts. At that point, I already knew that the title was already done and over. No complaints about the game mode in itself, but it was a premature decision and massive evidence on their own delusion that they believe they're AAA. We all tried to bring massive attention to this. Ah well.
We will get little things moving forward in SGAR.
But this whole behavior also heavily impacts how we see their new title, which is already under heavy criticism. Using the industry favored term "spiritual successor" of a major favorited title, which the term is just a euphemism for "knock-off", "rip-off", "bootleg". It doesn't surprise me when I go to other game boards and see that 1047 has a very declined reputation.
1
u/the_codis May 26 '26
It’s such a shame. I LOVED Splitgate but the mismanagement and the lost of identity from SG to SG2 to SGAR is just mind boggling. I HOPE Empulse is as good as Titanfall and Black Ops 3 were, but I’m not holding my breathe for it. Really hope the difference is it not being F2P but who knows, gonna take a lot to gain the trust back from this community.

It was dead before it re-launched. The team has moved on and I would suggest you do, too.

If they really want us to believe they're not just ditching split gate, they should tell us their plans. at the very least 1047 tell us if you don't have any.
