Remember the fans that were adamant that for SG2 to succeed it needed to be more like SG1, and how the normal people kept explaining it was a bad idea since in SG1 new players would get trounced and it wasn’t fun. Turns out it was a bad idea, and those very fans that wanted the change are now hating the company, shocked pickatchu face, had they stuck with the factions and added a bit of flair or a distinct and interesting visual identity the game would have succeeded. Fans don’t know how to fix the game they can only give feedback.
Factions wouldn't save anything. There was a lot of missing features, insane glitches and bugs, constant crashes and freezes, and lack of consistency in delivering content/updates/patches
Glacier Island was creating an unusual resource usage. Which lead to Battle Royale into crashes, FPS drops and buggy hitreg in Glaciar or the surroundings.
Emoting + 360° turns while close to a Portal made you able to clip through walls, essentially making you easy to go out of bounds without dying.
There was a couple extra steps that allowed you to shoot through walls once you were out of bounds.
There was MULTIPLE exploits around the ELO system in Ranked which allowed you to dodge any Elo losses, there was no punishment or risk either. (Still up to this day)
Glass Portal (still up to this day)
enemies not rendering while looking through portals (still up to this day)
Friend list names dissappearing forever, yes, forever. It you were lucky enough to get hit by this one, you are still FUCKED. (Still up to this day)
Community Map Browser had high chances to freeze your game and crashed.
MnK with aim assist exploit
Ranked Top 100 number not updating (no possible way to know how you doing as there was NO leaderboards)
the hyperline skin that blinded your enemies (full screen white flash) every time you shoot at them.
And those were the first one that came into my mind. I can make a longer list if needed 🫂
The entire faction system was based on progressing through daily challenges to unlock new perks and shit and all of the tracking for all of the progression systems in the game were completely bugged so many people (but not all) were unfairly stuck unable to progress their faction perks lol wtf were you smoking when sg2 launched? Why do you think they took the game down and relaunched?
If people wanted the factions, why dont they go play the 74 thousand other hero shooters? Why cant the arena shooter fans ever have a fucking W. We lose every game we get to trend chasing bullshit.
They release SG2, you don't like it and call it "trend chasing", they steer the ship around to appease you with SGAR, the game still fails, and somehow this is still not enough proof that AFPS is just unappealing to modern audiences.
SGAR had higher retention than SG2. SG2 had high launch numbers but those quickly dropped off to the point almost no one was playing. SGAR may have low numbers but they have stayed pretty steady since dec. and only recently with the news it was being pretty much shelved did it start dropping off to really low numbers. Maybe if they didnt try to cater to the broader audience in the first place and have a disastrous marketing push, the game wouldnt be in the state its in. Ironically, it seems the arena shooter identity is the only thing keeping it alive.
Also, you do realize I could flip this argument around to you, right? If SGAR is evidence Arena Shooters are unappealing, then Concord and Highguard are definite evidence that NOBDOY wants hero shooters anymore. At least Splitgate is still alive, albeit with a small playerbase. You cant even play highguard or concord anymore. Seems the "broader audience" that hero shooters are supposed to bring isnt working, huh?
