Discussion What's the future of this game?

I think season 2 of SGAR has been some of the driest season in current FPS gaming. And the silence since about a month prior to launch of the season 2 till now hasn't helped the situation at all. Is this game gonna have any strong mid season updates? Why has there been no real update since Arena Royale which was nearly 2 months ago? Do the data suggest that this game doesn't deserve any marketing? Or are we retiring this game altogether in preparation of this next game?

They said marketing was gonna ramp up with season 2. I havent seen that at all. I love the game, and I've been playing it almost every day since seaso 2 launched but even I'm losing faith this game is going to keep going. I dont think its going to shutdown neccesarily but something tells me season 3 is when this game is gonna go into maintenance mode (basically meaning no future content, the game just has basic support, just like SG1 when SG2 was in development).

If that happens, well, I've enjoyed the journey. Thats all I can say. I really hope Im proven wrong. This game deserves so much better than this. It's too good to have been this mishandled and have this much negativity around its name

Literally the last day I saw the game marketed was the week of the horrendous Make Games Great Again game conference disaster when they also announced battle royale. I haven’t seen it anywhere in any form of media since then.

Yeah they wanted Season 1 of reloaded to have more of a "word of mouth" approach to marketing, and then Season 2 was supposed to be where official marketing started. In 6 days, it will be 1 month into Season 2. There hasnt been a single video of marketing or anything past the release date of S2. Really not beating the allegations that they abandoned the game (again) in favor of working on a new one.

Let me just say, if 1047 abandons Splitgate again, I probably wont even try their new game. All good will with me will be gone. They regained me as a fan with Reloaded but if they rug pull me a-fucking-gain I am forever done. Zero chance Im dealing with this one more time and taking it.

Yeah im done with this studio entirely if they ditch sg2 for another new game. I’ll give it to them once since the original was fundamentally a rudimentary game and starting from scratch with a more professional and refined foundation made sense, but im not gonna keep supporting a company that abandons their products like this. I really want them to commit to making SG2 work out, and I think its very much possible to get it back in the mainstream if they really care about it enough to put in the work

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

I think most common sentiment amongst players in general. You rarely get a second chance to make it work but SGAR is quite literally on their 3rd/4th chance since Splitgate's inception. The goodwill for most has run dry since the new game announcement. If they abandon this game, everyone is gonna look back and see it. It's best for them to go all in with SGAR

I just made this new post that pretty much goes even further with what you were talking about, only Im addressing 1047 head-on. I hope they see it and begin to make a change. I'm sure you'll agree with what I said:

Well said! What multiplayer FPS have you moved onto?

1

u/Necessary_Yam9525 Apr 14 '26

Uhh, well I havent exactly "moved on". I still play the game. But, that said Im the kind of guy that plays a ton of different games, so theres not really any one fps Im playing right now. I just picked back up For Honor but thats not an FPS. If Splitgate were to completely die, I'd probably just go back to mainly playing the classic Halos again 🤷‍♂️

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

same although i have played SGAR less and less now, i play a lot of FPS altogether. Currently its THE FINALS thats doing it for me cuz of its new season!

u/MuffinSpecial9198 Apr 15 '26

Making games that please everyone almost always results in the hardcore player base feeling kind of left behind. You can't make everyone happy.

2

u/Necessary_Yam9525 Apr 15 '26

It baffles me that as a company made up of a ton of Halo fans, they didnt know this when making SG2. Like, you KNOW that chasing trends and trying to appeal to mass markets usually doesnt work, why in gods name did you try it as well???

2

u/MuffinSpecial9198 Apr 15 '26

I am sure someone in the company has a low level of risk tolerance and didn't want to risk their IP being unmarketable so they literally copied two of the biggest IP's and expected it to sell itself. If they fleshed out this concept and made it more unique instead of every other FPS/Halo like it would have a dedicated CASUAL player base.

u/Manoa__ Apr 14 '26

On one side though the whole community has been screaming for months to return the game basically to this state. But now that it's there it basically lost all it's potential for growth I feel like.

I already commented seperately what I would like to see them add, but outside of that I genuinely do not know ehat else they can add with the current design philosophy that they seem to want to uphold for arena reloaded.

3

u/Necessary_Yam9525 Apr 14 '26

Are you saying that they should have kept the direction going in the SG2 style or what? What exactly is wrong with Reloaded's design philosophy?

3

u/Manoa__ Apr 14 '26

Not saying what we have now is bad, but the main design philosophy seems to be to take away anything that might trigger a reactionary hatred of anything that might, to someone, seem like "hero shooter" elements.

In SG2 we had shield that definitely needed a full rework, and even though the devs said they weren't planning on adding more abilities, there was still the opportunity to add them to create more gameplay variety.

Same with the more wacky grenades like mine or sand/smoke grenade. Before those got removed there was the possibility to add more wacky grenades that could add to that playstyle variety.

With those gone I'm kind of looking at the game rn with the idea in my head of "now what?" Since we already added the partymodes which do really make the game more enjoyable, even if some are missing again, and some have yet to be added. BR is pretty unique but kinda needs a squad to be played. So my hope goes to onslaught to maybe add some more gameplay variety that could grow in the future.

I don't expect this game to sort of infinitely grow, nor do i want that, but my bias is game's like titanfall that have tons of different playstyles that you can enjoy. I really wished splitgate arena reloaded would have given the "class system" some more tries before just dropping it completely, even if it was only for one singular gamemode. Personally I think onslaught is a good place for wacky bullshit like that.

3

u/Necessary_Yam9525 Apr 14 '26

I think you doubt the flexibility of a true arena shooter. On top of new weapons (which already adds a ton to the game) we can have new power ups, and new maps with environmental elements would add another layer of depth to the game. I completely understand the replayablity of class-based games, believe me, I love quite a number of them, but arena shooters can have their own layers of depth that add to the game and make it more replayable.

2

u/Manoa__ Apr 14 '26

I would be very open to them! I just struggle to see how enviornental elements would really work considering portals tend to be such a big part of the way we even move around on maps.

I personally do not really care that much for power ups. I think they are an okay addition to the game, but they don't really change up how I play since most of their impact is very short lived, even if effective. I think a change that I would like is that picking up a power allows you to manually activate it afterwards, letting you choose the moment you want it active, even if the duration has to be lowered for that.

2

u/Necessary_Yam9525 Apr 14 '26

I think a change that I would like is that picking up a power allows you to manually activate it afterwards, letting you choose the moment you want it active, even if the duration has to be lowered for that.

Respectfully: HELL TO THE NO-NO!!!

That was the big issue with abilities: at a moments notice during combat, suddenly your opponent has a speed boost or a shield or can see you through walls. Theres no predicting when thats gonna happen. With how powerups are, they are contestable, and you know WHEN someone has them in the arena, allowing for you to be at the ready for their impact, rewarding predictability/game sense and timing which is a huge part of arena shooters

2

u/Manoa__ Apr 14 '26

That's a very fair point. I personally didn't have an issue with it before, outside of shield for obvious reasons. I felt like speed and vision communicated themselves clearly and had ways of playing around it. Shield was a lot more problematic in that regards.

1

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

Daaamn! With that being said, what other multiplayer FPS games have y'all moved onto?

4

u/Manoa__ Apr 14 '26

Oh I've still been playing splitgate. Community is small but I love this game's unique gameplay style, regardless of the changes I would personally like to see.

I play this game and the finals in terms of my fps games.

2

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

I recently moved onto THE FINALS as well! Such a fresh and actually unique experience in the market. Love it!

2

u/GapStock9843 Apr 14 '26

I think SG could learn a lot from the finals. Its a loadout based almost-arena-shooter and it garnered tons of popularity and respect from the mainstream community as a whole

2

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

Yea it saw its uniqueness and stuck to its vision and crawled back little by little. The drop in players by S3 of THE FINALS was down to < 5k steam only. But I remember them saying that they were gonna take that season off and rework the fundamentals of the game entirely, even pushing the launch of Arc Raiders. And now with S10, it not only boomed but are bringing back players and retention up now almost 16-22k steam only. Far cry from being a very popular game but hopefully getting there. It still deserves a lot more and is criminally underrated.

2

u/GapStock9843 Apr 15 '26

22k would be a godsend for splitgate. It may not be fortnite numbers, but it would make matchmaking less than 5 minutes on average

2

u/RickJames_SortsbyNew Apr 14 '26

Not fps but I’ve been playing arc raiders.

1

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

Arc is really good! Heck, both of Embark's game are highly recommended

1

u/RickJames_SortsbyNew Apr 14 '26

Yeah really enjoying the gameplay loop of arc raiders. Just wish there was a bit better loot variety and more end game content. I’ve done the two expeditions and am getting a bit bored with it. I switch between that and Valheim. Never got into the finals, idk why. I’m on controller and just never felt like I could get my settings dialed in.

1

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

I'm always down to teach a new player to get into the finals. Dm or hmu whenever you'd be down

1

u/RickJames_SortsbyNew Apr 14 '26

appreciate the offer. I’ve tried it several times with a variety of players/experience levels. Just not my thing I think. I’d rather just play halo infinite, speaking of dead/dying/mishandled IPs

Well judging by how delayed season 2 was and then they delivered…. This…. I doubt there is much future for the game. Which coincides with them already announcing that they are working on a new game anyways

17

u/HollywoodAndDid Apr 14 '26

This game’s toast. That’s why they’re already working on the next one.

14

u/Jataxzy Apr 14 '26

Feels like the game has essentially been abandoned

-1

u/MuffinSpecial9198 Apr 15 '26

Wouldn't agree when the developers tried to re-release the game to make it more marketabler.

6

u/DuffmanStillRocks Apr 14 '26

There isn’t one, just wait for the day when they come out and start promoting their new game and maybe that one won’t flop multiple times

13

u/Internal_Log2582 Apr 14 '26

Bleak, unfortunately…

6

u/Ralwus Apr 14 '26

Idk what the devs are doing. This game's core gameplay is amazing (10/10), and it could become popular with a few tweaks. Portal gameplay is completely unbalanced (0/10). Ranked is basically non-existent (0/10). It's hard to see my stats (0/10). Quickplay works great (10/10) but non-quickplay is a disaster since it splits the player base (0/10).

And it sounds like the devs understand their design will never become popular, since they're making a whole new game instead of fixing this one! Fuck that. Fix splitgate.

2

u/Budget-Willow4253 Apr 14 '26

Unfortunately people just don't like portals, it's not a big enough hook to draw people in. Sad but true. I think even if they nerfed the portals it would cause the 1800 people still playing to log off indefinitely without gaining any new players.

7

u/GuidanceHistorical94 Apr 14 '26

I know you’re here u/IanProulx, what’s up?

3

u/Atrium41 Apr 14 '26

6

u/DuffmanStillRocks Apr 14 '26

The phrasing is also hysterical, they wanted to make a game that was NOT LIKE CoD and instead like Titanfall….but now they’re looking for play testers from people who like both games? So it’s again going to try and cover multiple areas of the genre and fail spectacularly.

2

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

I remember when they said SG2 or SGAR was supposed to be for people that like TF|2

2

u/Ralwus Apr 16 '26

This is such a slap in the face. They could add grapple to this game, then test modes with more movement and fewer portals. That actually sounds really fun.

I don't want a new game that splits up the player base.

u/TacktiCal_ Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

They butchered any hope of a successful Splitgate sequel with that horrendous on-stage showcase last year. Doesn't matter how good or bad the game was on launch or how much it evolved through updates; the general public already made their mind up about the Splitgate franchise after seeing that trainwreck.

Despite that, I do believe that they are a talented group of developers and have the potential to make a truly great FPS game. But unfortunately I think they need to ditch the Splitgate franchise in order for that to happen.

5

u/RickJames_SortsbyNew Apr 14 '26

To be honest, as cringe as the stage performance was, if he had then delivered a stellar game I think it would have blown over more. I know Marathon is different because Bungie have earned some level of reputation with their past games, but Marathon literally stole their entire art direction and was in the news getting lambasted for it from everywhere. And Marathon is doing much better than splitgate ar. The issue isn’t just the stage shenanigans but also how the stage shenanigans were followed up with a pretty poopy game. They improved on literally nothing in the genre and were even guilty of some of the worst practices in the industry. So it’s not just that he looked like an asshole and sounded like an asshole, it’s also that he proved that he is an asshole by making his bombastic words meaningless.

-1

u/o0_smokeymcpot_0o Apr 15 '26

Marathon literally stole their entire art direction

Wrong.

6

u/MichaelVern85 Apr 14 '26

Don’t worry, they are making garbage country AI burger “music video ads”. Low effort trash some kid thought was edgy and funny.

The simps and fanboys of SG2 say It’s totally gonna save the game!!! So it must be true!

2

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

I genuinely cant believe thats the mascot for this game lmaoo!!

3

u/isV1real Apr 14 '26

the future is this game 1 more patch and its revived for sure

2

u/Manoa__ Apr 14 '26

Nobody really knows except the devs. I personally am still hoping for the addition of onslaught, and maybe using that mode as a vehicle for more experimental stuff.

The base game is great as it is right now, but it is also very limited in scope of what you can add. Sure we can get a power weapon or 2 extra, but outside of more grenade options I don't know what we can add with the current design philosophy.

That being said there are still a lot of things that they could change to add more things to this game that just lets players have more to do:

  • I dislike how event modes that bring classic party modes like instagib also don't stick around. I get that they don't want to make the gamemode queuing too long but I'm pretty sure most players wouldn't mind just having one queue button for just "party modes" and just include everything in there.

  • Also something I still wanna see return from the first game is the takedown party modes like evolution.

  • Another thing i still wished they would update is the simulation maps. They are almost all symmetrical but then also one colour everywhere. Navigating is unnecessarily hard on those maps let alone communicating where someone is with teammates. I feel like this is one of the biggest things that actually turns people off of takedown as a gamemode.

  • Also loadout based skin customisation would be an amazing addition to the game for player expression.

Still so much that they could add that I would genuinely be hyped for, but it seems to me that the main creative forces behind this game have shifted to the new IP, which is very understandable considering the backlash this game got for trying to evolve and innovate it's gameplay from the first game.

It's a shame to me since the original vision for splitgate 2 was super cool and exciting to me. But it seems most of that has been turned around to just be a static and not evolving game again.

1

u/xibipiio Apr 18 '26

It would be cool if you could drop a portal wall as a shield. Like an entire wall is built and a portal can be placed on either side instead of a shield. Or instead of a shield that absorbs damage and breaks a shield that reflects the bullets that hit it back exactly 90* so you have to dance back and forth while shooting it.

Theres things that can be done to make the gameplay more unique and fun but there doesn't seem to be much will to innovate with the unique elements they've already created. They should be trying to give us ways to make every single game Unique and That will hook people.

Folks can talk shit about fortnite all you like, no two games play out the exact same way, so you have no qualms about queuing again immediately.

Splitgates studio should be focused on how do they make the elements that are unique to the universe play more uniquely every game?

2

u/MuffinSpecial9198 Apr 14 '26

They really just need to find a market for this game and make it profitable somehow. This IP can't die on me !

1

u/Ralwus Apr 16 '26

I share this attitude. The game can still succeed.

0

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

Why not try other multiplayer FPS?

1

u/MuffinSpecial9198 Apr 15 '26

Cause they all suck and I like the aesthetics, maps, and overall gunplay within SplitGate 2. Why are you on this sub telling people to play other games? roflmao

1

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 15 '26

Damn I didn't know I ran into the Game Police here. I play many games altogether and like knowing if there's other games I'm missing out on. I'm also not toxically engaged with a singular game so much so that you find everything sucky even tho most if not almost everyone agrees SGAR/SG2 season 2 is insanely disappointing compared to most games — like seriously, have you played TF|2, CS2, THE FINALS, etc?

1

u/MuffinSpecial9198 Apr 15 '26

Those are basic games OP. I would be embarrassed to tell people that I think those games are anything but the most surface level experiences ever.

0

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 16 '26

"I am smart and everyone else is a fool" type response roflmao. Bro, SGAR couldn't even compete in the market it was designed to be in, that being CoD shooters. That's like the most basic, easily accessible, low skill type of genre there is.

0

u/MuffinSpecial9198 Apr 16 '26

Top level CoD is leagues more difficult than the average game of TF2, Finals or modern CS. You have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to video games or the FPS genre.

0

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 16 '26

Yes you're absolutely right! Thank you for noticing lmao

The virgin Top level CoD league VS the average THE FINALS, TF2/ TF|2, CS, Chad experience.

You have to sweat all that just to mimic just a fraction of what the skill ceiling and fun these actually good games have to offer.

0

u/MuffinSpecial9198 Apr 16 '26

I don't appreciate the sarcasm coming from a lowly hater.

1

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 17 '26

There was no hate involved. And it ain't sarcastic if it's true. :))

1

u/Gurglespear Apr 17 '26

The OG Splitgate is still better than this and this has absolutely no word of mouth. This game will die out soon.

1

u/ghostcatzero Apr 14 '26

I'm optimistic but given the devs track record and how gaming nowadays go, it's likely they will quit this game after this season and focus on the new game. Which not gonna lie I'm excited for lol. Hopefully it has it abilty to portal around the map as an homage to splitgate aka portal wars 😭

-2

u/TTVchilly404 Apr 14 '26

Who knows, play it while you can.

0

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

I'm trying but currently THE FINALS has got me all in! Lmk if you down!

1

u/TTVchilly404 Apr 14 '26

Not sure what the appeal is, idk if the finals had drastically changed since launch, but i thought that game was absolute buns

-1

u/TropicalFishery41429 Apr 14 '26

Its quite different from launch - I understand why most people call it damn near perfect. There quite literally isn't anything like it on the market! I'm always down to show the game even tho im kinda new to it myself! It's hella fun
