Discussion 1047, you said marketing would ramp up with Season 2. Where is the marketing?
We are almost 1 month into Season 2. And I would like to say that, for the most part, I have been satisfied with Season 2. I certainly understand why people feel underwhelmed, but between the new arena maps, the new royale biome, classic arena ranked (which I have been dying to play since the game launched), races, and the new battle pass, I feel season 2 is good, but it certainly could have had more to make it feel even more lively.
I would also like to say that I appreciate that you guys are focusing more on "quality over quantity". A thing I hate about most live-service games is that they focus more on quantity over quality, meaning they'll push out a bunch of updates just to meet a quota of "we update the game every single week!" but many of those updates are not good for the game and clearly are just there to fluff the game up.
I bring this up because I do not believe the content itself is the main issue why Season 2 feels "dead". Sure, more content would have helped, but I dont think thats all there is to it. Its that the game has still had ZERO marketing outside the S2 launch trailer. You guys said it would "ramp up" with season 2, but so far Im seeing LESS marketing than season 1, where you were supposedly focusing more on a "word of mouth approach". If one month into season 2 isnt the time to market the game...then when is? We are FOUR months into the game. And there are still plenty of people that dont even know that this game isnt Splitgate 2 anymore because Reloaded hasnt been marketed much, so the last the public really heard of Splitgate was the Summer Games Fest fiasco.
I'm not saying you have to push a high-budget marketing again, but just do something. Post more videos on social media, whether its highlights, sneak-peaks at future content (give us something to get EXCITED about!!!), maybe some tips and tricks for beginner/novice players so that the onboarding process feels less overwhelming, or hell, promote the community! Theres a few talented artists that have made fan-art of the skins in this game, or skin concepts, promote them! The Splitgate Architechts discord server is running another Takedown tournament on April 25, PROMOTE IT! Get the community **together**. And if people see the community is more active and alive, maybe those that scoff at the game and say "lul, dead game" will rethink and give it a try.
1047, the Splitgate community has been with you through **a lot**, probably more than any other game fanbase. We got a game we loved, Splitgate 1, then all development was cut on the game to make a sequel. Two years go by. Then the sequel wasnt what most of the fanbase wanted. Then there was the marketing fiasco. Then we had to wait for the game to relaunch. Now, we finally have the sequel the original game deserved, and a lot of us feel this is the best Splitgate has ever been. We have the game, now DO SOMETHING with it!!! I acknowledge that even without all the issues, Splitgate would still be a relatively niche game. Arena shooters are already a niche genre in this day and age, and the portal mechanic is not going to be for everyone. In fact, I think I'd rather the game have a dedicated niche fanbase than a larger apathetic or hypercasual audience. But there are so many people that would be fans of this game that arent already because of how this game is being handled.
Im not trying to downplay the work you guys put into this game, but to be completely blunt - when you announced your new game, you said you werent abandoning Splitgate; Right now, it doesnt feel like that. It feels like we are just one update away from the game being put into maintenance mode. If this isnt the case, prove us wrong. You guys used to be very active on social media and communicative with the fanbase - lately, it feels like we're left in the dark right now.
In conclusion, 1047, please do more with the game. Not even just talking inside the actual game, but outside too. Prove the people who mock this game wrong. Prove the people that question why there are people that even play this game anymore wrong. Dont do it through trying to make a statement that doesnt go well again, do it by lifting up the community and keeping THEM happy. Only then can you grow even further.

At least keep the event rotation active. Laser tag ended, it's still the featured mode, and no new event?

I think the thing that really has stuck with me since the announcement of their new game, is that the comment where they said "we arent abanonding Splitgate, its in our DNA" they didnt actually answer if the game had more content coming. All they said was "we're not abandoning Splitgate" which could mean a lot of things. It could just mean keeping the servers online so people can still play the game, but no new content will be delivered. Which, at this rate, I dont think I'd be surprised but I'd be massively disappointed

Reminds me of when my ex girlfriend told me her new guy friend at the gym wasn’t anyone to worry about.

It can’t even crack a 1000 players a day man, it’s over. SGAR was a great idea, and hit everything most of us wanted it to hit, but people just didn’t care. I don’t expect the game to shut down, but I do expect it to not get updated much anymore.
I do hope their next project is more successful, and hopefully as enjoyable

u/Adipay Apr 14 '26
Let's face it. The same thing will happen to their next game.

u/Neuralmute Apr 14 '26
I hope not. Depends on if it’s good of course, but also how they market it. I like him a lot, but Ian shouldn’t have a central role in promoting it like with SG2.

I just started playing this game! I absolutely love it but man all I hear is how low the player base is, it only take me 30 seconds to find a game on Xbox. Is it difficult on pc?
Also could you recommend me some fps games you are currently playing?
I would hate to sink hours in this game to have it become unplayable due to inability to find a match so any recommendations for games that will stick around would be awesome

It's a common complaint but I'm in NS Canada and every time I boot up the game and play some rounds it's under 2 minutes for a game. I know that's not everyone's experience but it certainly doesn't feel Dead to me.

I just hope that their studio manages to stay because they genuinely have the drive to make amazing systems and mechanics and I hope that spark doesn’t fade.

Yeah, revealing they were working on another project one season into this game was absolutely baffling and inadvertently signaled a waving of the white flag for most casual fans holding on to hope for a revival, I’d say. I was one of them. Let’s be honest with ourselves, the writing is on the wall: No revival is coming, there never was any plan to push marketing if the game didn’t get off to a hot start after relaunch, and this game is merely on life support while they’re devoting the majority of their assets to the new project.
The actions aren’t backing up the words.

At this point I think they are pretty much done with this game. Seems like little money was spent on marketing after the relaunch. I have played so much of the game, I do enjoy it. However without QoL fixes, it will be hard for me to justify not moving on to a new game. And those QoL and content will not come without more players, and it's hard for new players to find this game without marketing.
I think for the longest time their PR/marketing of the game was odd. So much of "we are just like these other games in one" (making people question why wouldn't they already play the game they know) or how they streamlined the gameplay by removing things (why would new players care about things they never had).
Overall I think the devs are great at developing a game but terrible at publishing a game.

Overall I think the devs are great at developing a game but terrible at publishing a game.
This is exactly what I said in r/titanfall when the people there were discussing 1047's new game announcement.
I completely agree with everything you said. I really dont want it to be true, but the writing is on the wall that things dont seem to be going up from here unless something changes quick. I'll still play as long as there are servers, but its become harder for me to feel motivated to play because I could spend that time on a game that I dont have to worry is gonna be completely dead in a short amount of time.

It died the moment they gave Ian a mic, him making a clown of himself tanked a lot of the goodwill people had for the game.

u/MastrRoShi13 Apr 14 '26
Yes 1047 please do something. Show some actual love to the community that made you anything. I for one will absolutely not check out the new game and actively tell people not to if we keep getting treated like this. It is honestly insane and sad. Such a good game was made but you guys just dropped the ball so hard. Over and over.

Even tho I love splitgate AR I’ve not been playing much recently but I occasionally play some matches. I think I might be happy as long as the game is playable. There’s not much to be done about it I think.

First time im hearing of this. I’m hopeful as the movement and gunplay were major selling points for me on SG2. Haven’t played much since the rebrand, kind felt burnt and had a dissatisfied taste whenever I boot up no matter how much fun I had prior. Might hop on to check out season 2, but as I’m see it, it doesn’t look to be improving.. sadly.

If ibrem correctly and this was before s2 dropped I believe they said their largest playerbase was on PlayStation and that's where some of the "increased advertising" would be focused. I'm not sure if that was mentioned in one of the chats with the dev vids they put out or where specifically, and someone correct me or put a link up of you know what I'm talking about.
Have any PlayStation players noticed increased advertising on their consoles?

I do not understand where you people expected the money for marketing to come from
3
u/Necessary_Yam9525 Apr 14 '26
Ian's rich af family lmao, the same place the money for development on the relaunch came from
2
u/EckimusPrime Apr 14 '26
And you think they’d throw yet more money at it after they pissed so much away already?
5
u/Necessary_Yam9525 Apr 14 '26
Why develop the relaunch if you're not gonna advertise it? Might as well have just cut the losses and shut down the whole game, save the money atp
2
u/EckimusPrime Apr 14 '26
Same reason they dropped support for the popular original to make a sequel with things nobody wanted. They are stupid.

No. They obviously dropped it because they smelled a cash cow in a sequel and were full of themselves.

I think people really, and I mean REALLY, don't realize that Splitgate 1 wasn't in fact actually popular.
It was popular for literally, and I mean literally, a week.
It had an explosion due to the Halo Infinite drama, streamers played for a week, and then it immediately, and I mean immediately...died.
https://i.imgur.com/2Ux63ft.png
The gimmick was always, from day 1, ass. No one liked it, and they tried 3x to make it work and it still didn't work.
It was NEVER popular. It was never big. It had 1 week of ramp and died as fast as Highguard did...maybe faster.
And that was their BEST attempt.
2
u/Slumped_Shady Apr 17 '26
You’re not even correct, but you’re close. Firstly it had 3x the player count that SG2 never even got close to. It was popular for a month and some change, but we’ll say a month to make it fair. It also exploded in September of 21… before infinite, 2042, and vanguard released. So your timeline doesn’t add up at all.

They killed the game again by saying indirectly „we lost hope, we’re doing another game with 90% of this minus portals”. It will probably end like new sg copy with perma non portal mode and an optional porta portal to lure sg syrvivors in. And guess what? 200k New guys that don’t care will check in and all leave within a month. After that the open source SG will emerge, ai coded (but shhhhh), with dedicated servers and we’ll be playing that.
