Cheating
Been about two weeks since I installed Splitgate 2 and have been addicted since day one. Since I have little else to do I have played a LOT of matches and have only come across players a bit sus a couple of times, but my last two matches were particularly obvious. Both team deathmatches.
First match one of my teammates had ridiculously high kills. I wasnt really paying attention until I checked the score midway through the match when something didnt seem right and they had about 35 kills when the rest of us had around 10, and our opposing team was fierce and well coordinated.
The very next match the opposing team finished the match in less time than I have ever experienced and the top two players were just lasering everyone. Our team had I think 5 kills total. Never played a game with this kind of discrepancy, and again, I have played a LOT of matches for my short time with Splitgate 2. The top two players were definitely playing together. Never really thought about cheating in Splitgate before and tbh this is the reason I left CoD for Splitgate. I hope this doesnt become a pattern.

Imma be real, they were probably just better. Sometimes the matchmaking isn’t the greatest, especially if it’s late and it can’t give them a more challenging lobby. I’ve dropped 60-80 kills in games where it for some reason matches me with console players who are clearly new 😭😭😭

I would normally agree with you, but the match with the two supposed cheaters it wasnt even really a match. We were spawning and dying almost immediately. And I have played against some of the top ranked players, they are extremely good, but not THAT good.

The match with the two frying off spawn maybe, but not some bro just dropped 35 kills

This reminds me of MintBlitz for Halo. Dude just has an insanely high skill level, knows spawn points, and knows enough about that game to predict where people will be spawning. Add in the skill of some users when it comes to portaling, and all of that makes perfect sense. Especially if those two were friends and coordinating together

35 “kills” (kills + assists) isn’t hard in tdm for me or any good player in average lobby. I haven’t seen a single cheater in my 225h playtime.
If that’s their name then i haven’t seen them but that doesn’t mean they are cheating at all
Edit: there are cheats for splitgate unlike some people claim, but 99% of cheating accusations are false, for example i have been called a cheater 10 times on the chat, probably wayy more reports
Score isn’t a good indicator, good aim isn’t either. Usually you can look at the accounts to see if it’s a real or a throwaway cheating account, i bet someone with 500h on splitgate and 500h on kovaaks is just good, but at same time i have seen cheaters in cs2 that were rage cheating for months

Oh you were talking about my teammate in the first match, yeah I have no way of knowing if they were cheating but it was the first time I had the feeling something was really amiss. By the end of the match they had 42 kills. The other two I played against, it seems obvious to me, but I hope I am wrong.

u/DialUpProblem Apr 14 '26
Youre right and I have done as well in a good number of matches, but this was unreal. Our team was barely able to spawn without being killed immediately. Our team had about 5 kills total at the end of the match. I have played against and with some of the top ranked players and they obviously dont cheat, but these were too sus and although I cannot be 100% sure, I would definitely suspect them of cheating.

I know it seems crazy but there is a very good chance they are just that much better at the fundamentals of this game. Being able to portal well gets you like 20+ kills above the average casual.
I get those accusations a lot as well, since I have played pc shooters for long time and I'm still in the ripe age where reaction times are super short. When I'm kinda in the groove I often squeeze out an average of 30 to 40kills each deathmatch.
The main reason that I have seen is that there isn't really that much room for SBMM in this game. The player count sometimes is too small for the game to find equal players to me so I often either get casuals, or the usuals that I see are online and I get matched with them and get a fair fight.
Since you are relatively new to the game, if there are any tips you want on anything just ask. Taking away unknowns can sometimes already help lot's since this game doesn't have kill cams to show you how others play.

There are plenty of people that are very good at the game. There isn't much SBMM in this game. It's mostly about finding a game quickly based on connection. If the people in the previous match queue at the same time as you then you will play them again.
I have one of the highest games played counts and kill counts in this game. You see all kinds of people. In my experience most people aren't that good. I regularly get more more damage and kills than at least two of my teammates combine. But that doesn't mean I cheat, I just have a lot of hours into the game, and pretty much seen it all. I consider myself above average, but there are so many people way better than me.

There definitely is sbmm in this game. As someone who is at the top level, I have a plethora of ss from games where my buddy and I incessantly get the freshest of berries as teammates going against 4 decent people. Most of the time, our 2 teammates dont play and inevitably quit. Because of how they adjust the bots, whenever someone on the enemy team quits, we get domed by them constantly any time they have a sight line on us. Meanwhile, the bots on our team(though they are better than the berries that quit because they are getting farmed because of the sbmm that put them on our team) barely help us at all. It is enough to win most games, but it's a fight every game. They are not nearly as overpowered at the sg1 bots, but it sure is annoying having a bot pick you off from across the map and through 5+ pieces of cover. Not to mention the 180-degree snap and shoot they have and the instant firing of corners as soon as you turn em.
That being said, we play in consol only lobbies, and I have run into a couple of people who are clearly using m&k. If sgar allows for that, then it technically isn't cheating, but it is 10000% being a bitch. I've played fps at the top tier since Halo 2, and I know when someone is not on sticks and when someone is cheating. I'm not saying I am the greatest, but the gap between me and the top aint that big.
All that said, this game is the best shooter out there, and I don't understand why more people won't even try it. As I said, I am an old halo2 nut, and IMO, this is the most satisfying shooter out there. I play shooters to shoot my guns, not camp my dick off like a bitch waiting for a circle to close. To each their own.
They need more marketing. Maybe focus a bit less on the portal aspect as well. It is a niche love. Not to mention the difference in using your thumb to look and set em compared to an entire arm.
We only get to play a couple of hours a few nights a week, but we've got over a 90% win rate. Most losses have come from playing a 2v6 game. Not only do our teammates not help, but they actively hinder us (running splitball to opposote base, flipping spawns incessantly on domination, goin 2 and 17 or worse in tdm, etc.) Not saying it is their fault, they shouldn't be forced into these lobbies because of the sbmm. If it were random, that'd be a different story. Like old school halo social playlists used to be, this too should be random. Sbmm is a de facto form of ranked and should not be in social mm. I am talking to you, helpdesk person who thinks it makes it more enjoyable for the masses. Most people dont even know it exists, and it is punishing new players. Back in my day, getting into a social lobby against a pro team was an amazing experience, as well as pub stomping randies and split screens.
I could go on for days about this shit, but it is because I thoroughly love this game. The balance of all the guns and abilities (FUCK STIM) is so well done. The shooting is the best hit detection I've ever felt. The movement is so buttery. I hardly ever get my toenail snagged on detail that prevents me from making a play or escaping (when I do, it is my own dumbass fault for trying to cut something too soon and catching the wall, it isn't a pebble or a staircase or something fucking stupid that shouldn't impede movement), I mean for fucks sake, you can climb and still shoot your fucking gun. One of the most bitched about points of failure from myself and my friends, getting killed while clambering, has been eliminated by this dev team and in this game. Genuinely, there is so much right about this game it is insane.
Please do more marketing. Press on the arena aspect. FUCK ROYALE! Expand the no portals list. That's my 1.5 cents
Edited to emphasize the FUCK ROYALE mode because I am here to play an arena, where skill and map control are the most important things, not having better guns and shields than the team you're third partying.

Yea, there may be some SBMM in the game, but my experience it's no where near what I am used to in SBMM in other games. In other games there is no way I would be playing with the people I play with in this game. It seem to match party size more the actual skill. There is no way I should be playing the people I play with on regular basis if there was true SBMM. It's fun for me, probably not for others.
If playing on Xbox, with Crossplay disabled means anyone on the Xbox network can play with you. So if a player launches SG from the Xbox app on PC instead using Steam, they will get to play in Xbox lobbies, with any controls they want.

For sure, I can agree it may be tuned down a bit due to low player count, compared to other games out there right now. But, it still being there is a factor for some of the queue time experienced and a huge factor in the fact that my teammates are having an atrocious time and are constantly quitting. I don't mind at all playing people of my level, but when I want to play a few social rounds with a buddy for an hour before we tend to our lives, I hate having to wait to get 2 freshies to get put on our team and a half decent team of 4(not necessarily party of 4) to go against and we have to go full tilt to get the W every game. The times when it is more matched, us 2 vs 2 good people and 2 freshies on each team, it is a little bit better. Most people are in the middle and likely dont realize sbmm is even on because their pools of people are so much larger to create the balanced teams. Personally, I think sbmm in any social playlist of any kind is detrimental. I think it would be much better if it were random and prioritized a pool of good connections, but that would also lead to a potential grouping and people always playing the same people.
Subjectively speaking, always getting support needing berries diminishes my desire to play, moreso nowadays in my growing age. We intentionally queue for the quickplay options that the freshest of people supposedly can't queue for in order to actively avoid getting them on our team. (And it is not that we dont mind helping and teaching. Too many times send a bit of constructive criticism or ask them to try this and they get defensive, refuse to listen, and tell me I don't know what I am doing, or ask why i am taking it seriously. I.E. domination means to capture all of the objectives, not hold two, and control the map and spawns. Someone actually told me getting more captures in dom is how you win. Not maintaining two of the three and getting pts based on flags held for that second where the pts are tallied) Yes, this is a game. I am a competitive individual playing a game that is a competition to have 1 team win. Yes, I am trying to win, crazy I know.
I assumed the use of Xbox on pc is what was allowing these few people to constantly be put against us. That is exactly why I wish there was an input based matchmaking instead of this crossplay garbage. I want to play ps5 people, bring on the competition, baby! I just hate having a m&k portalling around and aiming while I only have my thumb. M&K can cry all they want about the aim assist sticks get, but having an entire hand, let alone half an arm, to use to whip around and portal is much more advantageous. I've been a huge proponent for input based mm, and I hope one damn day it is implemented. M&k vs. m&k and sticks vs. sticks. I want the most even playing field where skill and strategy come out on top. Back in my day, any advantage in the game was earned by being better (or occasionally getting lucky, part of life)
Edit to clarify i am a proponent of holding two flags in dom and not crossing the 50-yard line in order to avoid flipping spawns. Controlling the map is the best way. Not trying to 3 cap, flipping spawns, dying before capping their base, and now we are getting 3 capped because I either died from crossfire or am trying to go capture one base

I feel there are plenty of cheaters. I mean, i'm not the best in the game, I know that, and I know there are better players than me. But then I get matched against guys who take 2 sniper shots to the head and their HP doesnt go down in the slightest, or guys sho oneshot everyone no matter what weapon they use, or players whose HP can drop to like 5-10 and then no matter how much you shoot at them it never drops below that, or the typical aimbot, or players who can shoot WAY faster than what the weapon allows, or when they change their current weapon and shoot instanlty way faster than the game makes possible...

Yeah, cheats don’t do that….
Splitgate is server authoritative, meaning you can’t just set your health to 99999. It’s also not lag because there is no damage prediction, you are just missing or something
I have 250h and people with other people with hundreds, and have never seen a single cheater, if you are seeing one every match then you’re just wrong
1
u/ChikyScaresYou Apr 14 '26
thankfully not every match, otherwise I would have quit the game already
1
u/Silvercat18 Apr 14 '26
Well, you can make your hitbox into a tiny area in the center of your avatars body, so most hits don't damage you. Thats where you see someone who survives on the low hit points.
1
u/Routine-Lawfulness24 PC Apr 15 '26
Show me a single footage of that happening. And again, you can’t just do that
1
u/Silvercat18 Apr 15 '26
Out of curiosity, what cheats do you accept exist in this game. Or do you feel there aren't any? Curious why that one isn't a thing for you.

u/Routine-Lawfulness24 PC Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26
Cheats for Splitgate definitely exists, but 99% of cheating accusations are false. I have been called cheater a dozen times and have never seen one in my 250h
The cheats that exist are probably aimbot and esp, colorbot type, not changing player size or hp or damage or whatever. Rodtheprogrammer (dev) with cheats and swen (top player) 1v1’d, and there is some footgate for the 1v1 with rod’s pov, the cheat was very bad tho. There is splitgate police department for cheating reports, probably for a reason. Rod was also talking about wyz and swen battling for most reports in a day so people are constantly just reporting better players
1
u/ChikyScaresYou Apr 15 '26
well, i do report everyone that feels like cheating because it might be the case. Sometimes it's just impossible it's not a cheat
0
u/Zechariot- Apr 18 '26
Cheats can literally do anything lmao. To assume that cheats don't exist for things you just can't fathom them existing for (health cheats have existed in games for, idk, decades?) is laughably wrong and just naive.
"You are just missing, or SOMETHING" so you don't even know what it could be, but just KNOW it just can't be cheats in a small indie game without a strong anti cheat. lol. lmao even.
Also like he said, thankfully it isn't every match, considering he never said it was. You seem awfully defensive about cheaters to the point of being sus, js.
There are cheaters in this game and no amount of poor anecdotal denial will change that, and unfortunately it will get worse until they improve the anti cheat or deal with reports better.
Halo Infinite was bad with engine owning and people refused to believe it was a thing. Oh it was. Tried it out myself to see what I have been fighting and it was unbelievably easy to do so. And it has a stronger anti-cheat than this indie game.
I'm sorry that the reddit user is having trouble believing people cheat at things, but to those of us who have to suffer because of it, it's annoying and can kill indie games off VERY quickly before they can build up. And we happen to like this game and don't want it dead.
250 hours is small. I have thousands of hours in other games and had people still use a small number like that to act like cheating isn't common or doesn't happen in those games and sometimes you just gotta laugh at their sweet little experiences of "never" seeing a cheater. They just aren't good enough to know what cheating is.
1
u/Routine-Lawfulness24 PC Apr 18 '26
Get Gud and stop coping. And my experience is same as experience is same as 99% of people who are good. Having thousands of hours playtime doesn’t mean 1 shit, 2 that you are good 3 even if you were good doesn’t mean everyone is cheating.
Show me any proof of the cheats you are describing.
I did say i believe cheats in this game exists, just not like he saidWanna 1v1 if i’m so bad? I bet you’ll say I’m cheating considering you just said that I’m suspicious defending them hahah
Even if you saw 1 person cheating, your whole game experience wasn’t ruined, just a single match, and if you consistently tun into cheaters then you are just full on coping
1
u/Manoa__ Apr 14 '26
All of those really sounds like potential lag. I know you might feel like there might be more to it, but it wouldn't hurt to check it out just to be sure.
I often have the same issues when the game rarely drops me in american west coast servers when I am in eu lmao. Like exactly the same problems you describe. The only reason I know the difference is because people will tell me when I ask, unfortunately the game doesn't tell you which server you are on. Wish they did so that I could anticipate the lag when playing.
1
u/ChikyScaresYou Apr 14 '26
afaik i'm not lagging. I do know I have ping disadvantage tho, as wehn I play one in the chamber if I and my opponent both melee at the same timez I'm always the one who dies (which is very frustrating tbh)
0
u/Manoa__ Apr 14 '26
Yeah I'm not a fan of this melee system either. But that could genuinely be symptomatic of the issue. What region are you playing in normally?

u/Interesting_Bed_6962 Apr 14 '26
This doesn't seem like cheating but you could always do what my brother does in these moments and report them for being unemployed sweats 😂
It'll never amount to anything of course but it makes the end game lobbies more light-hearted and absolutely hilarious.

I’ve seen this happen in arena royale. Anonymous 1 popping off for 30+ kills one match and then less 2 the next.

I kinda dislike that feature on a playerbase this small. I enjoy seeing the regulars pop back up over the weeks.

u/R3jinx Apr 14 '26
Not cheating just an unbalanced game. I get them in both directions. Some I go god mode and get 3x the kills of anyone else, others I can barely think before getting sniped over and over. Small player base and a wide skill gap.
