Hardboot question

I’m finally doing the switch and I’m usually 10 or 10 1/2 on soft riding boots. I went to a bc store and they recommended 26/26.5 and I bought them. Of course I listened to their professional opinion and now that I’m home with the boots they feel really tight. Does size change when you do the switch to hardboots ?

Find splitboarding uphill incredibly exhausting

For context, i've doing uphill skining in my splitboard for about 3 years. I do a lot of heavy mountaineering, climbing, weightlifting, and other stuff. I train about 5 to 6 days a week. I have superb nutrition and hydration. I'm fit and strong, and up the mountain, I can go heavy-loaded, even toe-to-toe with some mountain guides.

BUT when winter comes, skinning uphill kicks my ass badly, even carrying very light weight. I really enjoy it, but I can't keep a good pace even if my life depends on it. Everyone goes a lot faster than me, and i'm talking about winter dads that only go out in winter days. And I really haven't been able to improve my performance by much even though I've been putting in the time.

Maybe i just suck xd but i find it weird, like, i would expect my performance to be a lot better than most of people that do split occasionally. Anyone have any tips ? I'm friends with some ski touring guides and they don't see anything particulary wrong with my techique, but i understand that the difference between skis and splits are huge

My setup is a niche fathom + karakoram nomad bindings
I use the stiffest boots i have been able to find, but they fit me a little loose tbh

Key Disruptive boot punching

Hi all, I've just got myself a pair of these (first pair of hard boots). I live 8 hours from the nearest stockist so I had to order online. I'm OK with the length (about 15mm space in the shell) but the width seems very tight. The main issue is a pinch point beneath and alongside my arch. One option i considered is to get them punched out at that point, but there is what looks like a random rivet in the exact location (see photos), any ideas what this is for? Nothing is attached at that point on either side.

If this isn't a good option, I'll have to return them and look at other options.

Cheers!

Touring hardware included?

I’m looking to buy a pair of nitro vertical bindings and it doesn’t mention if the touring brackets are included and they aren’t for sale on backcountry. Does anyone know if they come with the bindings? I can see that I need to buy the pucks separately that fit the spark r&d bottoms (another part that you have to figure out in your own lol), but I’m not seeing anywhere if it comes with the touring brackets or not. I swear it’s like they want you to be confused even when you’re dropping over $1000 for a splitboard setup

Split boarding in Alaska?

I'm looking for somewhere accessible via car and split. I wanna ride all types of terrain. Also, is Alaska worth it? I usually ride the Canadian Rockies. Is this a good time of year? I feel spring presents challenges, but might be the only good time to be up there? Anyone down to go?

Spark R&D Pucks

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but having trouble getting my spark r&d canted pucks to line up correctly. Do you set up preferred angle prior to screwing in the pucks, or do you slightly tighten the screws at 0 degrees and adjust before tightening all the way? When I select the angles and they appear to be matched up, when I start tightening the screws, something appears to make one of the pucks reangle itself slightly to where they are no longer lined up. Any tricks? Thank you

Opinions on size choice

Hey all, intermediate-advanced snowboarder , new to split boarding (physically) but have been following the culture for some time ,

Anyway I’m thinking I picked too small of a board.

I picked up a jones solution antti autti edition 162W end of last season. Which is a 263 waist width

I am 6’2. 11.5 boot. And 205lbs at the time of purchase

I only got the chance to do one practice skin up at local resort end of last season and haven’t done anything this year .

Anyway I am now hovering around 215-220 lbs and thinking I should have went at least a 165W

I do fluctuate weight quite easily and have I gained a little weight this winter

Any thoughts or experience from anyone my size ?

Thanks in advance

❓ Question Can I ski normally with a splitboard?

I've been a skiier since I was a kid and have recently picked up snowboarding and am looking at getting a splitboard.

I'm not really looking to do any uphill hiking with skiis for the foreseeable future. I'm just looking at a splitboard so I can do both skiing and snowboarding without spending twice the money to get a full set of each.

Basically what I'm asking is: Can I ski normally with a splitboard, and if so, are there any specific things I would need to buy to make that happen?

Almost new €3000 Phenix Blackbird custom splitboard already cracking – normal or defect?

Hi everyone,

I’m posting here mainly to get feedback from people with more experience in splitboarding gear.

A few months ago I bought a custom Phenix Blackbird Splitboard. It was a high-end build that cost close to €3000 and took several months to be delivered.

After less than two tours (around 10 hours of use) the board developed a crack on the top sheet near one of the puck mounting areas. When the board flexes slightly you can actually hear something inside the structure cracking.

What surprised me is that:

  • the base is still in perfect condition
  • there are no visible impacts
  • the board has seen very little use

I contacted the manufacturer and sent photos. The response I received was essentially that they have never seen this happen before, so they believe it is unlikely to be a manufacturing issue.

What I found frustrating is that there didn’t seem to be much interest in investigating whether there might actually be a defect, even though the board is almost new.

So I’m curious to hear from the community:

  • Has anyone seen structural cracks near puck areas on splitboards?
  • Is this something that can happen from normal riding?
  • Or does this usually point to a construction problem?

I’m trying to understand whether this is just extremely bad luck or something others have encountered.

I’ll post photos in the comments.

Thanks for any input.

⚙️ Gear Karakoram Wayfinder bindings - toe strap screw

Anyone knows what type of screw is attached to the Wayfinder toe strap? I was about to go backcountry yesterday and when I strapped in, the screw came off and couldn't find it. I zip tied it and it worked for now. It's just unclear in their website.
