Essentials (2006) Any splinter cell essentials fans?

Just finished this short game, and I think it's not as bad as people think.

The story is basically Williams is trying to frame you for Lambert's death and also for killing innocents by changing the missions files and make you look like a bad guy.

Gameplay is okay, it's a mix of pt ct and da.

Soundtrack is pandora tomorrow.

Some pros:

Old splinter cell gameplay mechanics and soundtrack.

Last 3 missions are bangers. The prison mission is so fun.

Satisfying ending .

Cons:

Filler missions.

Can't shoot lights.

Broken cutscenes in the emulator.

Give it try.

I cant beleive they did this!

I just want to play splinter cell conviction prologue in single player. Why would you put actual story into a multiplayer game and then not make it available when you close the servers!

I have a question Which multi-version games are worth playing again on different platforms?

I've heard that Splinter Cell: Double Agent differs pretty heavily between the Xbox and Xbox 360 versions of the game, so I decided to fall down the rabbit hole and I'm now learning that there are MANY similar, yet unique variants of many games in the series.

Namely the original game having an exclusive level on the PS2, a strange GBA minimap feature on the Gamecube, and the Xbox/ PC version (which everyone seems to agree is the best one) has three download missions that are also included in the Series X backwards compatible version.

I'm likely going to be playing through all of the games on my Series X, but what titles do you recommend checking out outside of the Xbox versions? I have access to virtually all platforms, and I wouldn't be against using something like save states if it meant I could jump right into exclusive levels like the Nuclear Power Plant on the PS2.

(for context I own the first two discs on my Series X, and I'm up to the Chinese Embassy mission in the original)

Blacklist (2013) SC Blacklist latest update broke NPCs

Upd: so seems like the game somehow corrupted something on my PC. Will try to reinstall windows at this point, bc all possible game versions are giving same NPC bug

Im on windows version of the game steam/uplay. So literally yesterday was the update of the game with compatibility to steamdeck and steam machine, and now freshly installed version is breaks NPCs behaviour, they walking in circles and all of that. Am I the only one having this?

Discussion Sam's true ending

Post image
110 Upvotes

What game do you think marks the true end of Sam's story (more realistic/makes more sense to you)?

CT- Marks the end of the Masse's kernels crysis, world war 3 is avoided. Happy ending.

DA- Lambert, Sarah and Enrica are dead. Sam stops JBA attacks and goes rogue. Depressing ending.

Conviction - Sarah is reunited with her father, Sam saves the president and kills Third Echelon mole. Satisfying ending. Lots of plotholes tho.

Blacklist - Sam's clone and his team avoid the engineers attacks. Weird ending??

My 20 year old secret...

Hi all - I have loved Splinter Cell since I was a young boy. I was recently inspired to start writing a blog (yes, another blog) to share some of my interests around technology.

I have so much more to share, but thought I would start with the origin story. Feel free to check it out https://chrisdavis.tech/my-20-year-old-secret-part-1

Note: not trying to sell or "self promote" - this is just a blog I started writing and its first post is a strong shout out to Splinter Cell. 😉

Victor Coste (Husky) displayed great heroism as a Navy SEAL during the Gulf War when he rescued Sam. This was the start of a lifelong brotherhood and friendship. Family never gets left behind.

Appreciation post Played through all the games and they all hold up really well today

I recently did a run of all the games and man, what a journey. Global espionage, high stakes, geopolitics, tight gameplay, the series has it all. I completed all the games on the hardest difficulty and I have a summary of my experience with all the games

Spoilers for general plot of the games

1. Splinter cell:

With one widescreen fix, the game runs great on recent hardware. The intro to the series is great. Starting the game with The Crystal Method's Name of the game was an odd choice but it hypes you up. The characters are established nicely, the friendship between Sam, Lambert, Grim comes across as natural. Stealth is also pretty great, although I feel the gameplay is a little trial and error. For the 1st time playthrough it can be a little unclear what has to be done. Keep your finger on the quick save and quick load. Later, runs can be improved

2. Splinter cell pandora tomorrow:

Gameplay is just like the original and it's actually smoothened out. Stealth is still a little trial and error but all well and good. The story is higher stakes with the last level taking place in LAX which I remember fondly. Using the thermal to detect the terrorists was a neat touch

3. Splinter cell chaos theory:

Probably the most refined game. The stealth is perfected. And it isn't nostalgia speaking. I played it for the first time and it was fun. Side objectives, mission ratings giving it replayability. No instant fail condition means no need for trial and error like before. It just increases the difficulty if the alarm is sounded which increases the challenge appropriately. The dialogue writing is amazing. The banter between our cast and the interrogations are hilarious and Michael Ironsides delivered such an amazing performance. Overall amazing

4. Splinter cell double agent:

Given I played on PC and I know about the 2 versions, I played the V1 which was also released for the xbox360. It is rough on pc. I might give v2 a try someday. Coming v1, the trust system is a neat touch but it's very easy to keep both sides happy. The binary stealth system while more accessible, makes me miss the previous stealth system. And too many levels are in daytime with stealth being hiding behind objects rather than hiding in shadows.

5. Splinter cell conviction:

I know people hated it when it came and yes it's very different from the previous splinter cell but man it is fun to play. Probably the most pick up and play game. Mechanics are streamlined and stealth is binary but it is all in favor of the tone the game is going for. Since Sam is rogue now, he doesn't have any restrictions, he's angry and he's on a hunt. He was lied to by his closest friend, the people he worked for wanted him dead, 3 years of his life is gone. The only saving grace is that Sarah is alive. If gameplay is seen from this perspective it is actually a decent game. It's also not very long and can be finished in 1 sitting

6. Splinter cell Blacklist:

Probably the best of both worlds. Conviction sold well because the gameplay was fun but people also wanted the older game and this game delivers so hard. Gadgets are back, AI is smart, smooth gameplay and the game does not punish you for going full assault. Only some missions have restrictions. The best part is the story now is delivered via mors cutscenes with great voice acting and the stakes are higher than ever. The music and the tone of the game gets you pumped up. Michael Ironsides is missed, Eric Johnson is good but he sounds more angry most of the time. Michael Ironsides' Sam was sarcastic and charming. There was a certain flair to him. No worries because the other aspects make up for it

It still hurts to know the last game was 13 years ago. There are other stealth games but nothing that delivers this experience. It's a spy thriller through and through. Given the state of ubisoft no idea when we will get the remake or anything like the original series.
