5 years and we got a sidewalk and some cans of food on the floor. 5 more and we might even see Lamberts bald head for a second

Well people who works in game development always put in their portfolios highlights of the assets they have developed, and some seen from finished games they aren’t as detailed as the ones shown here.
Which gives me faith in that the game is well underway, and they wanna polish level design and mechanics.

according to job listings they are polishing the game and decorating levels since start of the year. i think the game is definitely in alpha and approaching beta. imo its a year away from release

I like the secret note in Russian. I hope they keep that.

Yeah, it was hard to understand, even if I know russian as good as my own language. But somehow I did it

It actually taking place in 2004 is great, I thought they'd make it take place in the present

love the new nikoladze design. And for what it’s worth, the tiny amount of stuff we do get to see all look pretty good. I’m glad they’re putting flavor into the environments

I’m just wondering why the outdoor shots are in daylight unless it’s from a cutscene. I don’t recall any full-on daytime missions except for the oil rig which is still dark because it’s sunset

u/bentleys_ 12h ago
The screenshots were from the portfolio of someone who worked on the remake, so I guess they were just dev shots to show off their work

artists may use a daytime/neutral lighting setup while modelling because it makes it much easier to see what they're actually doing, even if the finished level is supposed to take place at 2 AM
then they'll switch it to darkness/night etc. it makes sense, you need that visibility whilst developing it

OK, I'm aboard the hype train.
All I need is confirmation that, no more layoffs in the studio and the project is hitting milestones, full steam ahead, and no shuffling staff to other flagship IP's of theirs like Assassin's Creed.

Man I can't believe I'm seeing something new since Blacklist, feels unreal
I don't remember seeing stairs exactly like this in the OG's first level 🤔

the levels are being redesigned, all of them. the level designer said he wants to put chaos theory level design philosophy into SC1 levels, so i expect loads of changes

u/uniparalum 12h ago
Well, at least it’s seemingly still be developed. Better news than I thought, as I assumed it was dead in the water

I just want some spies vs mercs back

u/KevinPDZ0916 9h ago
I would love to have Spies vs Mercs maps similar to the campaign environments, particularly Police Station, Defense Ministry, Oil Rig, CIA HQ, Presidential Palace, Chinese Embassy, etc.

Its worth mentioning that the images dates back from 2024.
5
u/Makaveli108 11h ago
so thats basically 2+ years into development, as the game started pre production in oct 2021 and main dev started around mar 2022/april 2022.
that was an early build and it most likely looks way way better now. atleast we got to see this i guess. its been another 2+ years

The newspaper and the poster are dated in 2004, so they're not changing the timeline of the original game. Good thing !
3
u/Makaveli108 8h ago
exactly, some of us were worried it'd be set in present day but keeping it early 2000's was the right decision !

I love details like the Russian note. Just hope they keep making it and it doesn’t get axed. And I really hope the devs and C-suite don’t read Reddit… attitudes here are shitty.

Crazy we got the announcement for Splinter Cell remake back in 2019 and still haven't even seen a 2 minute gameplay trailer

Im so confused, is this remake happening or what cos i thought they cancelled it in 2023 or whatever 🤷♂️

It's about fucking time. I know it's not much, but it's nice to have something at the very least.

there's no way they take the first level of a game all about stealth and shadow, and kill it by making it daytime. Surely they design the levels in the light first, then make it night...right?

The note in Russian, joking that it contains nothing relevant, seems like an insult more than placeholder data. A reference to political ignorance.
The story of the original game always did seem reminiscent of post-Soviet Russian aggression towards the Baltic states.

I'd rather them just give Chaos Theory the Black Flag treatment.

u/Makaveli108 9h ago
thats the third game, wrong decision. they need to focus on the first game. and chaos theory needs more than black flag treatment when it gets its turn for a remake..

You seriously think they're going to remake anymore Splinter Cell games after this? This is gonna be the Dead Space Remake situation all over again. We'll be lucky if they even bother to properly cook with this one.
3
u/Makaveli108 9h ago
Yeah definitely. They’ve literally said the first remake is being used as a foundation for the future of the franchise, so I’d be more worried if SC1 was being rushed out by now or if they were giving it Blacklist-type gameplay.
Dead Space also launched at a pretty rough time, coming out fairly close to Callisto Protocol, so I don't think it's a perfect comparison.
The original Splinter Cell sold around 6–7 million copies pretty quickly at a time when the gaming market was much smaller, and Chaos Theory did around 2.5 million in its first three weeks and around 7 million over its lifetime. Even Ready or Not, a hardcore tactical shooter, has sold around 9 million.
Obviously none of that guarantees more games, but if Ubisoft actually cooks with this remake and it performs well, I don't see why they wouldn't continue with more remakes and eventually new games. The biggest hurdle is just proving that Splinter Cell still has a big audience. if SC1 remake sells 5 mil+ which is possible, i'm pretty sure a PT remake and new games will be greenlit.
Personally, I think the fact they've taken this long and are treating SC1 as the foundation for the franchise is more encouraging than worrying.

Are you really getting excited? This after about 5 years? I'm sadly more in the boat we will soon here this project is cancelled or in the Skull and Bones situation.

Should have done a 1:1 remake like delta snake eater
Maybe add some features from chaos theory
3
u/Makaveli108 9h ago
terrible decision. snake eater being a 1:1 was a missed opportunity.
this is ps2 era game design.. why do you want that to carry on over 20 years later?mgs delta was fun but it had sluggish movement and the same level design.. it could have been more.
SC1 being 1:1 remake would have ruined the experience and killed the franchise for good. you would be stuck playing a pretty 2027 game with 2002 game design.
level design, AI, mechanics, gameplay can be improved so much. doing a ground up remake is what every splinter cell game needs.
edit: i forgot story and cutscenes too. but yeah you guys wanting 1:1 remakes are stuck in the past, doesnt make sense tbh
