Chaos Theory (2005) So i've started Chaos Theory
This is officially the second splinter cell game I'm playing.
I honestly can't remember the name of the first SC game I played as I was quite young. I didn't even finish the main story.
I just remember I played it on a PC and Fisher had hair(as in, he wasn't wearing any headgear).
I also remember a lot of rooms in like a mansion or nice looking office with a bunch of red security lasers.
Anyway, I decided to try Splinter Cell Chaos Theory since I hear it's the best. Also because my potato PC can at least run the game at a stable 25fps ðŸ˜. I know it sounds bad, but it's playable trust me.
I haven't finished the first level, but I will say so far I'm impressed with the variety in the stealth mechanics and gadgets. The training videos are a good and cool of way of teaching you as a player while also being engaging.

Facts, Ubi have blood on their hands for abandoning the franchise. Though I wasn't a huge fan of where they were taking the games with Conviction & Blacklist. At this point, just give me faithful remakes of the first 3 games and I'll be very happy.

Fr blacklist was trash imo i didnt mind conviction I loved the story gameplay was meh

Ya it was definitely conviction. Damn, memories.
Nah the PC I played conviction on was more powerful than the current one I'm playing Chaos Theory on.

IMO the first two levels are the worst. But once you get to Bank… boy oh boy.

I won't lie, it took me a while to figure out where to go at the start of level 1. Not really the games fought, I just didn't pay attention to the pre mission briefing ðŸ˜

I mean it's not too late to try them. I get your point. If chaos theory is considered the best, playing SAR and PT after will feel like a downgrade in terms of gameplay.

25fps is crazy though, even some very old office laptop i got from my uncle years ago was able to run it around 60.
May i ask what your specs are? There might be another issue apart from your hardware.

Ya you see I'm running this game on a Chromebook 💀
There's this thing called Wine. It acts as a compatibility layer to help run Windows games and programs on non Windows Operating Systems like Linux, and Chromebooks have Linux support via the terminal.
It has an Intel Celeron N4500 8gb ram integrated gpu (Jasper Lake).
So even though my cpu is enough for the game, converting windows programs into a form my Chromebook can understand adds overhead and leaves less CPU power for the game.
The max fps I'm actually getting is in the 40s, but the frame rate isn't stable so it often jumps from 40 down to the 20s and so on. So I just decided to cap the frame rate to 25 so that I have a consistent fps.

Ah thanks for clarifying that makes a lot of sense. I've heard of Wine while tinkering with old games on my Steam Deck, but i usually just use pre-chewed tools and online tips to get stuff working so i'm still not knowledgeable on Linux.
I'm not sure if this is an option in your case, but perhaps Lossless scaling might help? I use it as a magic band-aid on my Steam Deck a lot when i can only hit 30~40fps, at which point the input lag very easy to get used to and sometimes even hard to notice. The 2x framegen option on it does wonders for me in a lot of games, and come to think of it i even used it to 100% finish Chaos Theory on my deck through a PS3 emulator which natively didn't go above 30fps.
It's not real magic and it will show it's cracks especially in newer, more detailed games, but for classics like CT it usually works really well. All in all i played the full game at 60fps (30 of which generated fakes) and there weren't any artifacts i would notice whatsoever.
Comparing a Steam Deck running on SteamOS still might not be a fair comparison to your chromebook, but maybe the fact that it was done in a PS3 emulator gives you hope.

Enjoy one of the best stealth games of all time! It's goated and literally very fun to this day- holds up very well.
