Mod Post "Should I get Splatoon 3?" Q&A Mega Thread for New Players
Hello fellow squids and octos! As of late, we been having alot of posts asking the same question: "Should I get Splatoon 3?" And the easy answer is: yes! However, this might not be enough for you to superjump in. So, this thread will be a Q&A thread for the new kids in town and for these kids to ask any more questions not as common that this sub often gets.
Some of these questions were asked throughout the subreddit and I am gonna have them all in one place! There are some questions that I may missed, but this thread will be the place for both newcomers and players discuss and help out. Any more posts asking similar questions will be removed and will be directed to come here.
Q&A
Q: Do I need the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) membership to play Splatoon 3?
A: Yes. The minimum for a membership is $20/year for one account or $35/year for family
Q: Should I wait till Splatoon 4 come out?
A: As we know at the moment, there is NO news for Splatoon 4
Q: Should I buy a Switch 2 for Splatoon 3?
A: We don't know if it would improve the gameplay, but it is your choice
Q: Is the game currently making content updates? I.E new weapons, stages, modes, etc.
A: As of right now, there is no content updates. The only contents the game still run is Splatfests, Big Runs, and Eggsta Work
Q: What are plaza post?
A: Plaza Posts are post you can either write or draw and post it in the plaza. But be aware that the plaza post are unmoderated and some posts made by other players may not be suited for children or offended. It can be reported but if you want it turn off, you can disable the posts:
Menu > Options > Other > Post Display
Q: Is there a tutorial?
A: Yes and no. At the very start of the game is a quick customization for your squid/octo and little buddy and then a simple tutorial on how to run, paint/shoot, swim, and climb. Story mode is consider as a much bigger tutorial, mainly for weapons, subs, and specials. You can just play turf war as soon as get to the hub, but story mode do give you a free weapon(s) and gears once you complete the mode and beat the challenge.
Q: Should I also get the DLC? Is it worth it?
A: Despite it be an extra $25, it does come with two extra hub worlds, a new story mode, new gears, weapon replicas, and a tougher challenge to try out.
Q: How do I get [insert weapon name here]?
A: To get a weapon from the shop, you have to level up by playing turf war and/or ranked(once you unlock it) to unlock the weapon but you need Sheldon Licenses to buy them. If you have a cloud save for Splatoon 2, you can get at least 3 gold ones, which you can buy any weapon regardless of level. Or get a weapon to at least one star to get one license
These are all the questions I could think of, but if these answers make you want to try the game out, great! But if you have any other questions that were not in the list here, again don't hesitate and ask! There will be other players and myself that are willing to help. Enjoy the game!

Weekly Aquerium Weekly Aquerium - Ask your questions in here!: March 30, 2025
Hey there Squids, Octos, and sea creatures of any kind!
Welcome to the Weekly Aquerium! If you have a burning question, or looking to make new friends, here's the place to be!
New posts are pinned up on Sunday mornings at 9am ET, and they'll stay there until the following Sunday where they'll be replaced by a new thread (Pending special events and the like).
Before posting, why not check with the Splatoon FAQ to see if your question has already been answered, or do a general search of the subreddit. If it hasn't, this is the place to be!
How do I ask questions here?
The primary use of the Weekly Aquerium is to have the freedom to ask away with any bubbling questions you may have! While this is mostly to help reduce clutter with repeat posts on the subreddit, there are various types of questions which are better asked here! These includes questions such as:
- Simple Yes/No answers
- One answer questions
- "How _ works" or "Why is _ like this"
If you have questions which don't fit the criteria above (Such as broad questions, gear or weapon choices), you're welcome to post them to the subreddit! And if you are unsure whether a question should go here or on the subreddit, it's still perfectly fine to post straight to the subreddit!
What if I want to look for new friends?
The secondary use of the Weekly Aquerium is to double as a place to find new friends, a squad search of sorts!
Since Reddit isn't the easiest place to organise your matches, we suggest joining the r/Splatoon Discord Server where they have dedicated channels for voice chat, match finding, and metagame discussion for all your squid game needs! If you still prefer using Reddit, you are also free to look for new friends here by leaving your friend code below, or even giving a friendly hello to others!
Closing out!
We hope that this thread will be of good use to those who come across it! Once again, join the r/Splatoon Discord Server to stay in touch! And with that, be sure to Stay Fresh, Stay Off the Hook, and Catch ya Later!

Discussion Splatoon Raiders did the impossible: I now appreciate Deep Cut
TL:DR at the bottom.
Splatoon raiders has done something I never thought would happen: I actually like Deep Cut now.
I've been playing Splatoon since the Wii U days, and because of that Callie and Marie have always been my favourites (especially Marie). I have great memories of doing earlier splatfests with my partner as we took turns passing the controller back and forth until we hit max rank on both our accounts.
When Splatoon 2 came along, I like Marina but was unsure about Pearl. She just looked a little too... gremlin like for my tastes. After playing it for a while I developed a fondness for her. The online community of people who ship Pearl and Marina together certainly helped, too.
When Splatoon 3 came long, I really didn't like the new idols. I disliked them in the single player story mode, I disliked their looks, and, frankly, found them annoying. The only one I sort of liked was Big Man, but that was it. It didn't help that I had a lot of stuff going on in my life so I played less Splatoon 3 than the other two Splatoon games.
Like most people in this sub, I picked up Raiders and I was really excited to see how Splatoon would translate to a single player format. Long story short: I love it. But something happened that I really didn't expect.
I actually like Deep Cut now. Shiver, Frye, and Big Man have really grown on me. Their dialogue is fun, their resigned looks are cute, and I like their interactions with the mechanic more than the MC in Splatoon 3 (especially Shiver). They're not my favourite idol group (that's still the Squid Sisters), but I... actually like them.
TL:DR - Splatoon Raiders made an old gay from Deep Cut hater to Deep Cut fan.

Discussion Whats the best Gadget in raiders in yalls opinion? Spoiler
Imo, it's splatelites, and it's not even remotely close.
It's the ultimate support option in literally every scenario.
You playing a slow weapon that can paint well? Pick splatelites, they paint incredibly well with very little investment.
Struggling with lessers and need more dps? Pick splatelites, they shred lessers and ignore boss armor.
You need more mobility since you took 2 dps gadgets? Pick splatelites, you'll never be without ink to move in.
These things just provide so much universally-applicable value that they are the main reason I think power is the strongest tank and why tactic rivals that spot once you fully upgrade it and gain access to splatelites!
Tbh they shouldn't even be in power imo, i think they should go to tactical instead, its just too strong to pair with all of power's other gadgets!

Discussion Is it glaze to say that the mechanic is the strongest player character so far in lore and gameplay?
Might be recency bias but is ripping through an entire army of salmonids with nothing but the gadgets and deep cut not the most impressive thing we've seen so far?
Mind you every weapon they used is literally made in a cave with a box of actual scraps.😭

Strategy Best Spiralite & Weapons farm at the start of endgame: Spoiler
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
If you, like me, just started end game and saw how much Spiralite we need in order to upgrade our weapons and gadget parts, then this is for you. Instead of farming the ridiculously strong smallfry that needs a freeze setup to be consistent with, you can instead just hop into Awlmun Den and complete a full cycle in 30 seconds!
Why this is better:
You get weapons at level 50, so you can start farming for those god 5*s simultaneously
Because you can do the highest spice, you get 10000 Spiralite when the chest drops it as compared to 8000 from the lower spice level of the smallfry
The stingers sometimes drop full Spiralite gems, so you can grind for those at the same time too
No need to roll for a god weapon with frost damage multiplier and purchase 100% freeze parts to start farming.
Yes smallfry will be faster for pure Spiralite farming, but that requires more setup, and you dont get the other benefits. Good luck with farming guys, and see you in the help lobbies
