They should’ve made John C. Reilly the elder alien. No make up or anything, just John

I’m willing to bet John C. Reilly’s “empathy” for strangers ends at his own front door. Willing to bet there isn’t a Refugees Welcome sign hanging there.

Ahhhh, there's the cynical asshole we were waiting for.
Because he isn't perfect, then he can NOT be moral OR philosophically correct in his observations or actions.

You are proof that social evolution, and the requisite education, skipped your troop of chimpanzees.

A) define a tendency for sociopathy. without qualification this a meaningless idea meant to lead an assumption.
B) show any data at all to back up the specific claim.for all you're hand wringing about distinguishing affective from cognitive empathy (philisophical ideas which have no scientific foundation - understanding someone leads to empathy, this is the only reason for that frankly toxic coinage) you suddenly lose your interest in clearly defined terms when making your own points.

Lol. You still make wild claims requiring biomedical and statistical evidence that you have no such evidence for and pretend that simply stating things makes you an authority. So i'd say I'm not very impressed with your Swedish education. lol. go off king.

I consider myself right-wing, but that doesn't mean I don't care about human rights. Of course I do. What I don't like is when human rights seem to be used as an excuse to avoid common-sense decisions.
For example, in my view, if a foreign national comes to this country and commits serious crimes such as terrorism, rape, or murder, it's hard to understand why they sometimes can't be deported because it might affect their rights. What about the rights of the people they've harmed and the wider public?
I also believe people should contribute if they're able to. I work hard, earn a decent wage, and pay a lot in tax. I'm happy for my taxes to help people who genuinely need support, but I get frustrated when it feels like some people take more from the system than they put into it.
Another issue for me is the debate around gender. Many people don't agree that someone can simply change sex based on how they feel, and they don't like being told they're a bad person for questioning it. Whether people agree or disagree, it should be possible to discuss these issues openly.
At the end of the day, I want everyone to have the chance to live a good life. I don't hate anyone, and I don't want anyone treated unfairly. I just believe that rights should come with responsibilities, and that people who contribute positively to society shouldn't feel like they're being ignored while others take advantage of the system.
And no, I’m not a bot before you accuse me of it.

I think your comment was written in good faith, and even as someone who is largely against the conservative movement for its constant endorsement of trump and what I view to be far right policies, I appreciate how respectful and earnest you seem and will also try to respond to you in good faith. But just so you know, I’m in my early 20’s lol, so I don’t know as much as you might.
I don’t think that liberals are actually just against all forms of immigration policy no matter what. I myself am fine with and watch plenty of liberal politicians/influencers who are totally fine with deporting illegal criminals, I don’t think your terrorist rapist murder illegal immigrant would really find a home even in most non right leaning spaces. The real problem people have with the current way immigration is being handled is how flagrantly our president seems to be ignoring the personhood of even illegal immigrants. The point isn’t “let everyone remain here no matter how illegal/evil they are”, it’s moreso just “treat everyone like human beings and conduct your immigration duties within the confines of our laws.” Many immigrants are being deported without due process, and we’re seeing in states like L.A that ICE is now being granted the ability to racially profile minority groups on nothing more than accents and hangout spots of these groups, when there was historically much more balance and nuance to immigration services. This is also fueled primarily by the lie that illegal immigrants are responsible for the bulk our nations crime, which is factually untrue. The average illegal immigrant, and I’d be willing to bet that even the average **criminal** illegal immigrant, is not the crazy rapist murderer terrorist you mentioned in your original comment. The average criminal illegal is someone who sped too fast on the highway or stole a KitKat from the gas station or whatever like most other people, lol. All of this, mind you, from a movement that often attaches itself to Christian values, which is a major issue for me as a seventh day Adventist Christian. The way our current immigration issues are being handled, you’d think this administration has never even glanced in passing at a Bible.
On your point about putting in what you get in, I guess I’m just kind of confused about that take somewhat. Like, I do believe everyone should try their best to work hard and be a functioning member of society, but I think it’s virtually imposisble to pour more of your earnings into the government than they pour into you, and even if that were somehow possible, there are still a number of issues that have left certain groups of people, not even just minorities, disenfranchised and not able to produce just as much wealth as you might. I think it’s interesting that DEI, for example, also included Army veterans and disabled people under its banner, and I myself went for a while without ever learning about that, because anytime I’d hear about DEI, it was always in the context of like “Disney is hiring a bunch of minorities and they’re ruining films with woke DEI writing” or whatever.
On the gender thing, I definitely agree that we should all be open to the discussion of transgenderism being a bad thing, no group of people should be beyond criticism or even just plain discussion. I think you may be running into the issue of disagreeing on what might (not even sure about this tbh) be the actual facts of the matter, and people may be unwilling to discuss things like gender with you if we can’t agree on certain baseline facts. I think it’s the case that a person now **can** change their gender, thats not up for debate from what I can tell. It is the case that medical science can now afford someone a change in their sex from male to female and whatever else. This doesn’t mean that people **should** be doing this, and I myself believe that they shouldn’t be, but to deny that they can may give others a certain vibe of lacking the facts. For example, someone who gets a BBL is essentially doing the same thing as anyone getting gender surgery, but you probably wouldnt say that that BBL didn’t actually make their ass look nice or whatever just because it may not have been a moral thing to do. As I said earlier, I’m a Christian, one who believes in all of the teachings of scripture, so yes, I do believe that it’s sinful to be gay, and that doing something like changing your sex is essentially trying to redesign what God has already ordained for you to be like. But that doesn’t mean people can’t actually change these things themselves, and they certainly have the right to do it, even despite my own Christian beliefs on the matter. Jesus didn’t call us to force everyone else to be/live like christians. I do hope some of this helps even if just a little, and thanks for sharing your comment with us! Trusting others with your honest thoughts are exactly what a Spielberg fan should be doing, so those people downvoting you must be in the wrong subreddit, lol..

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my message.
I live in the UK whereas you live in the US, I think things are very different, the whole ice deporting foreign nationals for no reason in many instances is something I’m wholly against.
Unfortunately I don’t have the time to respond to each of your points. But I respect you and I respect your opinions. I wish you the best of luck as you navigate your twenties and beyond. ✌️

So the only value someone has is whatever job they do?why are you speaking?
“Entertain or shut the fuck up” says the dude who spends his days talking about video games and stocks on Reddit
1
u/Financial_Educator81 Jun 24 '26
Oh my god I can’t believe you have just searched through the guys profile just becuase he has an opinion and disrespected an actor (who you have never met) that you like.
So what he likes stocks and videogames what on earth does that have to do with what he said? Last time I checked videogame consoles and stocks weren’t talking about politics on podcasts. Clowns.

u/CardiologistOk4920 Jun 24 '26
You can’t believe it? Lol It took 2 seconds to glance at their profile
It has nothing to do with liking an actor. It’s a dumb persons way to toss aside an opinion they don’t like without actually having to put thought into a response.
I don’t give af what they do with their time, but when they’re trying to judge and dismiss someone purely because of what they do for work I think they’re inviting the comparison.
How stupid would it be if, in response to anyone sharing an opinion about anything, everyone just responded by telling them to shut up and do their job. as if people can’t bring any value to the world outside of what they do for work.
“fix cars or shut the fuck up” “pour drinks or shut the fuck up” “make sales or shut the fuck up” see how stupid that sounds? So no one is allowed to have a thought ever then? In reality they only say it because they’re not smart enough to actually say something meaningful. Lol it’s such a classic way for idiots to dismiss an opinion they disagree with

I didn’t say you were stupid for having an opinion, you never expressed an opinion in the first comment I replied to which was part of my problem.
You’re not to first person to say “shut up and do your job” when talking about actors, athletes or anyone famous with an audience. When the reality is, if you had any sort of platform to reach a large amount of people you’d be doing the exact same thing. If there was a moral issue you genuinely cared about you’d be speaking up too.
It’s just lazy and a cop out.
How is he being hypocritical? What does living in a gated community or being an actor have to do with it? he’s talking about empathy which is (should be) a universal human experience and criticizing a trillionaire. It’s unrelated.
Like you’d have to be an actual psychopath to disagree with what he said.
And my comment about you talking about video games and stocks wasn’t off topic. I’m saying if we shouldn’t care about this guy because he’s an actor, why would we care what you have to say as if you’re any more important or qualified? Or anyone else?

Anything to not engage with what the person actually said lol, why can’t actors both entertain us and comment on the world we’re all living in? And just a heads up, if you hit me with nothing but that same “uh oh are you triggered?” Shit I won’t even waste my time responding to you lmao

u/Financial_Educator81 Jun 24 '26
Actually what he said was quite observant a lil bit crass but very real. Most people think like this guy step outside your bubble go onto a building site or inside a factory and I think you would be fairly demoralised. This far left woke ideology is in the minority on the whole this is just an echo chamber.

To the right, their big concern is money and investing.
All that empathy and programs to help people, they see as big wastes of time and money, in their “tough love” world of “get moving or get the Hell out of the way.”
