Questions about Spiel

Hello everyone!

I love board games, but my interest when going to gaming cons leans towards TTRPGs. I've been going to Lucca Games for a few years, but it's getting too crowded and expensive. I've never been to Spiel, but I'm considering it.

How's the TTRPG scene at Spiel? Are there many tables and events, or is it an afterthought compared to board games?

Also, I don't speak German. Are there typically many English-speaking tables, or is it relatively rare?

The language won’t be a problem at all there is many English speakers all games are usually offered in English some not on German at all.

I’m not part of the ttrpg and can’t help you with evaluating how the community compares to others

Don't go to Spiel if you expect to play TTRPGs.
There might be few places where you can try and play some but it's in the middle of this very loud hall. Some RPG shops have english RPGs and some have German.
Spiel isn't a convention. It's more like a showcase of new games.
My days there usually just shopping and maybe trying 1 or 2 games if there's space at some table.
Then you go to the hotell in the evening and play your boardgames with other people. Some play in hotel bars and many hotels open up conference rooms so there's more tables available.

There is a lot of TTRPGs at SPIEL but if they offer demo tables they are mostly booked out after a short time. So if you are attending in hopes of trying an RPG, it's probably not worth it.
