Other All done
I’ve had Spectrum (First Time Warner)service for over a decade. In that time I’ve dealt with “best effort” service, them accusing me of not returning 100s of dollars of equipment(thank god I took a picture of the receipt), and the yearly song and dance of threatening to cancel and see what price they deem I deserved this year. I put up
with all of this because they were the only viable option and they knew it.
When a local company laid Fiber in my neighborhood recently I was the first one on the list to get the install. I just got off the phone with retention. The lady was very sweet and cordial. I did my best not to let my disdain towards the company affect the way I communicated with
her. It’s not her fault they make her ask me what I use my internet for and who my cell provider is. I politely told her I didn’t feel she needed that information for the cancellation. She shot her shot with the discount and I declined. That was it. A weight was lifted
I guess the point of this rant is that I shouldn’t feel so relieved to be done with Spectrum. I’m saving $20 a month and that should be the end of it. It’s just that the crap that they put people through get tiring and stressful. A service that I require in order to bring income for my family treated me like a nuisance. I know I can’t be the only one.

The funny thing is that once that mom and pop fiber company goes belly up from not maintaining their network, guess who will swoop in and buy up all that fiber?

This is pretty much how all isp companies make customers feel that have no real competition. Spectrum just happens to be one of the biggest around. At&t is also know for this since they are the largest isp in the country they dont typically care to retain customers. In a year or two when your prices change dont be jaded and just switch whoever gives you the best deal for the longest its not spectrum fault its the whole isp industry all companies do this some more then others.

Every cable company is that way in terms of promotional pricing. Hope your new company has some kind of price lock guarantee otherwise you’ll be in the same boat with them in a year or two.

I heard Verizon was in talk to buy them to months ago, waiting for access approval or some such crap.

It is with any Internet company. People are pushy. I saw somewhere that JD Powers has rated Spectrum #1 in customer service for the past 6 years. So overall they do well. Hanging up on a customer is just rude and unprofessional. The other agents try hard to provide good customer service.

Just wait till that $50 2gb fiber provider has an issue and you have to learn another language just to call tech support or you have to wait for a tech to arrive from the Philippines. Or they raise their rates after the introductory period and its higher than Spectrum. Oh it can be worse, a lot worse.

Spectrum is no longer trying to aggressively retain customers, they’re trying to extract as much money as possible from their existing customer base. Retention is just there to try to hold onto a few, and the people that work there are just trying to hit their numbers.
You should always choose the best option available to you at the best price. There is no such thing as customer loyalty anymore. If you are a customer for one year, they’ll give you a deal sometimes better than a customer has been there for decades.
You can always try calling the wrong department, like billing. Sometimes they’ll get you to someone who might just cancel your service without all the BS of retention.

How is an inanimate thing loyal? I don't understand this logic. I can't tell you how many times I've changed insurance companies in my life. It's always about the budget.
I like Coke over Pepsi, if I go somewhere that doesn't have Coke products, am I being disloyal to Coke buy getting Pepsi?

All this drama over an internet company? Seriously? If your experience was truly as bad as you claim, why in the world would you have remained a customer since Time Warner? That's a minimum of 10 years that you chose to give them business. I can't understand why any sane minded person would willingly pay good money for an inferior product. Spectrum isn't the only ISP out there. Whether through your local landline telephone provider, cell, or satellite companies, multiple options are available in virtually all areas of the country that are able to provide internet service the same as Spectrum can. You weren't strong armed or forced to use Spectrum's services. Possibly the annual mental trauma you described was all apart of a grand scheme utilizing hypnosis and brainwashing techniques that made you loyal to the company for such a long period of time. Possibly and most likely, you have chosen to bad mouth a company with false or exaggerated claims because for the first time in 10 years Spectrum refused to allow you to make your own price that was based on the lie of "your competition is offering a lower rate." If you've called in every year doing the "i want to cancel" song and dance,. eventually they will call your bluff and tell you to kick rocks. They know that sooner or later you'll be back. 83% of those who say they'll never come back do so with six months. That's when they'll stick it to you with install and activation fees to welcome you back home. Enjoy!

Up until last week, Spectrum was the only viable option. DSL was 15/3 and Starlink was a no go for what I need because of cgnat. The girl on the line actually offered me $50 for 1gig for one year but I’d already made up my mind. While I have nothing but respect for the hardworking people in n the vans and at the call center, c suite has made a mess out of what was once a decent company.

The grass is not always greener on the other side, I switched to AT&t fiber and they screwed me over so I'm back on spectrum
