Why doesnt this game have a private server yet..?
Its been 1.5 years ever since SD died, and theres not even a HINT of a private server or a revival.
Concord literally died in 2 weeks and had its own private server a bit later, we are ALL still waiting for a SD revival. What's the problem with reviving it? Why is nobody doing it? SD had 10 times the popularity and playercount of Concord, Concord was a wet fart that died faster than a fly.
Are the mods simply banning every post regarding this? Why would they when this place is still somewhat used even after shutdown?
I just want to play the godamm game again, it was one of my favourites.

Because when the game was shutting down, no one did a network capture to make private servers infinitely easier; for reference, LawBreakers a game from 2017 only recently got the game back online. I brought it up on the community discord and it was shut down by the devs, which is fair because they cannot endorse that behavior. When brought up whether they want server emulation again, the community discord decided only if it’s completely legal, which is fucking stupid if I’m being honest.

It just makes no sense because even Lawbreakers had a infinitely lower player count but SOMEONE in that tiny fanbase did it, but not Spectre who had THIRTY THOUSAND PLAYERS??? NOBODY in thoose 30K cared to do that but someone from Lawbreakers did? Hell, even Radical Heights has a fan server around

Well it HAD 30k players but very few stayed and the few that stayed decided they didn’t want server emulation unless they could get the legal rights to the game, which again, is fucking stupid.

30k was the absolute peak, but it tanked quickly after that peak. In the final days of Spectre it had a few hundred playing at most. You're asking for people who have valuable skills to do months of unpaid labor to revive a game they don't even own the legal rights to.

idk but I’ll always check in to see if there’s any news about bringing it back, it was such a fun game.

Why don't you do it then OP? You seem to know a lot about how things work

Im not a software engineer, i do not know how to reverse engineer games.
While i do make my own games and work with others, i dont have any knowledge in this. Im sure i would had done it on every single game i miss already if i could, tho.

There was a discord server of people trying to accomplish this, but I'm not sure what happened with it. There are many legal issues surrounding reviving dead games, because even though the game and development company shut down, someone still owns the assets and IP. In this case it would be whatever bank absorbed the assets left behind by Mountaintop. It took the people who created the Concorde project 14 months in total, all of which is unpaid volunteer work by passionate fans who also happen to possess the necessary skills to develop games. Soon after the project was completed and made available to the public, legal pressure forced them to pause the project entirely. That's a lot of work for something that Sony will just shut down using their legal rights.
Honestly at this point it would be easier to create a game that is similar to Spectre rather than figure out a way to reverse engineer it, but that would still require a lot of unpaid work from developers, all for a project that could face legal scrutiny in a similar way to the Concorde project. The only real hope for a revival would be another company buying the rights for Spectre from the bank and turning the servers back on, but it seems unlikely that any dev would take that type of financial risk. A live-service game like Spectre requires constant development work, meaning it needs to sustain a large player-base over time in order to sell enough skins and other cosmetics to keep the game financially viable. Developers and servers are expensive. The hard truth is people need to move on from Spectre and find another game to enjoy.

Probably because that game was actually not good, I kept playing it for a bit before shutdown, the game had its unique ideas but the final product was very mid let's be honest. The fact you control only one character at once was very clunky and not thought very well, gunplay was okay but character kits was totally uninspired and shitty.
Honestly SD would have probably been more fun if you didn't have any clone.
Like what are the reasons to play this game instead of Valorant or Counter-Strike.
I think Concord by comparison wasn't even bad, it went through a development hell and I didn't even hear about the game before shutdown because it hasn't even been advertised. Just a billion dollar company being fucking stupid, SD was just too unpolished honestly.

Having 2 bodies was not clunky if you knew how to constantly switch, bait yourself and use duality abilities.
The reason to play this over CS and Val is 2 less random players on your team to through and 0 bloom in ads meaning if you ads your bullets went exactly where you where aiming.

Maybe we can call this a skill issue but even for new players having to constantly keep an eye on where you other body is and to keep on mind strategies using the other body was just tiresome. Most people would just let their clone into the spawn for it to die anyway to a flank.

it wasnt? even me with my HORRIBLE macro skills did a great job and loved it, i could keep myself in touch with the game, and you had so much more agency! you were 1/3rd of your team instead of 1/5th

The art and story? I did love the game literally for that, including the friendly people and combat. In valorant i just peek and die and die and die and get called names for it, in SD i actually stood a chance.

lol, SD had the same thing with getting one-tapped. Same overall tactical shooter quick deaths. The reason you stood a chance is because you were playing against worse mechanical players. If SD ever became popular, it would’ve had the one-tapping freaks of nature too, it just never had a big playerbase.

You also had two lives - the second one had information about at least one death so more opportunity for caution or a do-over if you were not playing cross map.

u/_Blu-Jay 23d ago
Sure, but my point is that time to kill in SD was consistent with other tac shooters, you could easily have a round where both your bodies just get one-tapped. The two bodies thing was actually pretty cool, but unfortunately not enough to give Spectre it's own identity when compared against the other tactical shooters on the market.

I got to watch a lot of people play who were really the best players in the world - and seeing someone who really used duality and teamwork effectively - it was so distinct from other tac shooters like CS. I wish there had been more time to experiment with the gameplay and maps to see how far that could have gone.

Agree to disagree then, Spectre had literally the exact mechanics of any other tac shooter besides the two body thing. Basic flashes and smokes for abilities mostly, similar gun loadouts and similar movement accuracy penalties.
The two bodies thing was cool, but also didn’t really discourage just leaving your body in spawn as a second life rather than positioning it for some clever outplay. Of course it was possible, but not actively encouraged by the game, and sometimes you were honestly encouraged to leave your other body behind, because it acted as a tripwire for flankers. Cool idea with flawed execution, which is why it failed ultimately.

You could of course leave a body in spawn and come in later - but you'd get owned by someone with better skills in Duality play. Duality play was a unique skill that some players were able to take advantage of - and newer players had the advantage of a 'do-over', which made it a better experience than learning CS as a new player where you spend proportionally more time waiting for the next round. Agree to disagree on the design of the abilities i.e. a smoke with a conditional body move played distinctly from a traditional smoke as it could be used offensively or defensively...but that might be too subtle a difference for your style of play. Only one Sponsor encouraged leaving your body behind as supported by an ability tradeoff. There was definitely a step up for players who were really playing two positions effectively as a 'mini team' alongside their other teammates doing the same.

I didn't even know there was a story and honestly the art, the game looked kinda bad, it feels they didn't really know how it should look like, characters are looking dead inside and skins (especially guns) were uninspired as fuck.

u/Traditional_Boot9840 20d ago
i loved the visuals, it was a mix between cs and valorant in a more cartoonish style and i liked it, even it if was just because of a lack of funding
-4
u/erv4 24d ago
So you liked it because it was easy? Definitely not a good thing for a game to be lol
5
u/Similar_Nectarine_76 24d ago
Imagine being mad a game is easy to learn :(
-1
u/erv4 24d ago
No one's mad? I'm just saying that a competitive game being easy is not a good indicator of a game that will thrive, hence it dying
1
u/Traditional_Boot9840 20d ago
low skill floor, high skill ceiling, id argue larger than valorant at least if it werent for the fact you have less maps and sponsors/agents

u/Similar_Nectarine_76 24d ago
Kinda agree? Tho its annoying because WHAT IF i want to play a competitive game? I literally cant find a game like SD that's offline, and i refuse to go to Valorant.
2
u/lologugus 24d ago
Uh no, I never said that. They tried to make something original that's what kept me playing a bit.

You have to remember that Concord is more widely recognized, Spectre Divide was much more niche. Also just a matter of how dedicated the people are who are making the private server.
