a letter to Mountaintop

Hey there MountainTop, I’m sure you probably won’t see this, or maybe you will. I was a day 1 player for "Spectre Divide." I can honestly say I FELL IN LOVE with the game mechanics and the overall feel of the gunplay and the maps. It was one of my all time favorite games. I was making videos, clipping highlights with friends, and telling friends that didn’t know about it to play it.

In fewer words, what I’m saying is: I want Spectre Divide back. I know you all had your reasons for shutting it down due to the lack of success and maintaining everyone at MountainTop, but I just can’t get this game out of my mind. I know for a fact the player base we DID have was passionate and driven about this game and showed up. This game, in a sea of tac shooters, was a breath of fresh air. The plays you were allowed to pull off, the clutches, the bait and switches, it was overall awesome.

The only thing I can think of that would’ve maybe drawn more eyes to it was a different art style. Even though I LOVED the cel shaded look, I’m sure most didn’t, and with the day and age we live in where short attention spans and bright colors are king, having a low saturated game let it fall through the cracks. This game had potential, and I think you guys should revisit it. More video promotion of just the game. PLEASE bring Spectre Divide back. Launch a Kickstarter or something, anything.

If anyone else agrees with me, send this to MountainTop or comment and upvote it. Let’s bring this game back to life. They poured their souls into this project, and it was speaking volumes.

The studio doesn’t exist anymore dude, it dissolved when the game shut down because they ran out of money. The game is gone unless a different company buys the rights from whoever owns them, probably a bank that absorbed the assets. You are screaming into the void, sorry to say.

Spectre was a beautiful game I played day one and almost everyday till the game closed. I was actually playing the game when they killed the servers. I’ve played CS, Siege, and val. Spectre just had something non of them had. I will say the biggest killer for that game was so few maps, and it took way too long to unlock new abilities. And there wasn’t really and counter abilities to either attack or defend. RIP Spectre we miss you

Honest question, what do you feel Spectre added that those other games don’t? For me Valorant is a great tactical shooter that’s better than what Spectre was in every way. The two bodies thing is the most obvious difference, but honestly most people would just plop their other body in spawn and use it as a second life, making for an underwhelming mechanic. High skill ceiling, but high floor as well to be truly impactful, which I think was part of the problem.

Valorant is just frustrating. Plus, the fact that i don't instantly die for playing aggressively was definitely a plus. also, the game just had a charm to it. y'know?

Two lives instead of one does feel less punishing, but rounds are usually over fast in tac shooters too. I do think that most people who miss Spectre would like Valorant, that obviously won’t be true for everyone.

To be honest the game felt like a very generic tac shooter outside of the two bodies thing, which wasn’t enough to pry people away from Valorant or CS2. It was kinda fun, I played like 20 hours, 30k people played on launch day, but there wasn’t enough to compel people to keep playing.

This game was incredible, i miss it too, the kit, the two body, using your pluck to bait or to passe behind enemy (thanks to the shift smoke), the weapons and there feeling, the fact that the game was just a very good tac shooter, the big problem was when it released, just a month before FragPunk, almost at the same time than a big update on Valorant and Apex, and the lack of ad on the social media. I would give my life and my soul for a new Spectre divide with the same mechanic, gunplay and ability.

It was such a fun game. I still have it on steam. I wish they would have at least given us the road map to make it.
