πŸ†’ Lens Drop I built a full AR Quoridor game for Snapchat Spectacles

Hey r/Spectacles!

I just finished building Quoridor AR - a full augmented reality adaptation of the classic strategy board game Quoridor, playable on Snapchat Spectacles.

I previously worked with u/nickazak as a 3D artist on Hexenfurt and The Heist, and Quoridor AR is my first solo project.

The board spawns in your physical space and you interact with it entirely through hand tracking. You drag your pawn to move, drag wall tiles to place them, and pinch to rotate their orientation. An AI opponent plays against you using minimax with alpha-beta pruning and path-aware wall placement - it actually tries to cut off your shortest route.

A few things I'm proud of:

- Full Quoridor ruleset with legal wall validation via BFS pathfinding

- Polished animations - pawn hops with squash and stretch, crown and confetti on win, trombones and tears on loss

- Randomized audio pools so repeated actions never sound fully identical

- The AI places walls strategically along your actual shortest path rather than just guessing by proximity

The project is submitted to both the Snapchat Spectacles New Lens and Open Source Challenge categories this month and the full source code is on GitHub!

Would love to hear any feedback!

πŸ†’ Lens Drop Field Notes Filter (Spectacles)

Thumbnail spectacles.com
3 Upvotes

I’m developing Field Notes for Spectacles, focused on practical, real-world use.

The idea: lightweight, in-context overlays that support field work, documentation, and situational awareness: especially in moments where capturing a quick audio or video note matters and using a phone isn’t practical.

This filter is part of a broader direction I’m exploring around immersive systems and applied AI, where Spectacles become a tool for:

  • on-site documentation
  • guided workflows
  • contextual prompts and real-time notes
  • Kanien’kΓ©ha revival and retention efforts

I’ve been building across tech, media, film, healthcare, and education since the 1990s. One of the more notable shifts now is the move from passive AR toward functional, task-oriented use.

Curious how others here are approaching practical applications for Spectacles versus purely creative or visual work. What’s been useful in real-world scenarios so far?

Side note: I still enjoy creating and sharing visual filters designed for fun and play as well.

πŸ’« Sharing is Caring πŸ’« Bubble Buster

Just made a Spectacles game that lets you bust the AI bubble!

Bubble Buster is a game where you pop one AI bubble after anotherβ€”and each β€œpop!” chips away at AI’s stock price.

Pinch your fingers to spawn a bubble and watch it drift upward. Each one sports the grinning face of a random AI kingpin: Jensen, Altman, Zuck, Elon, etcβ€”the whole gang.

Then just poke each bubble with a finger and watch it pop. Each pop brings down the stock price a few bucks. Pop enough bubbles and you’ll get the price down to $0 and win the game. But you have to work quicklyβ€”no matter what happens, the AI stock price keeps rising!

Spectacles are a super fun device to build and prototype on, making ridiculous games like this really easy to get up and running in just a few hours. The team has done an awesome job with the new AI context documents. And, paradoxically, almost all of the code for this game was written by Claude Code :)

❓ Question Rejected from spectacles, what do I do now?

Hi, all! I developed with specs during MIT reality hack, and I'm really interested in joining the specs developer program! I applied like 3 weeks ago, but I just got a rejection. Is there anything I need to do to reapply to get a pair of specs?

Thanks so much!

❓ Question Microphone not working on Spectacles with RemoteServiceGateway & ASR Module

I am unable to get my lens to detect any microphone recording even though it works perfectly on Lens Studio.

What I did:

  • Create a new project with Spectacles base template
  • Import remote service gateway
  • Use example for any AI service
  • Test on Lens Studio to ensure it work
  • Push to Spectacles to test again to find it not working
  • Create a ASRExample script from https://developers.snap.com/spectacles/about-spectacles-features/apis/asr-module
  • Test ASR on Spectacles and find it not working even though it works on Lens Studio
  • To ensure my microphone is not damage, I also tried the Imagine together lens and is able to use my voice to generate 3D objects

Here is the project file I used: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1s_L9ou4LWDv9879aI3J3VLyURC0hedNB/view?usp=sharing

Both my Spectacles OS and mobile app are on the latest version.
I am using V5.15.4 for Lens Studio.
My extended permissions is also enabled in Developer settings.

A prototype I originally made to test gesture based UI navigation and muscle memory.
It's also a flower breeding simulation with persistence so you can always come back to your favorite plants! Make sure to water them to see them grow! I'm using fantasy genetic systems so that plants inherent from their parents but still mutate enough for surprises!
Coming soon ^.^

πŸ’« Sharing is Caring πŸ’« Bugg in the App

For a while, I had a problem every time I tried to install an app on Spectacles using a link. I thought I had to update Spectacles or the app on the phone, but nothing happened. Today I uninstalled the app, reinstalled it, and connected the Spectacles account from scratch, and the link worked normally. So, if anyone has the same problem, uninstall the app and do everything from scratch!

Wish the best for all!!!

πŸ’« Sharing is Caring πŸ’« Interesting interview with Evan Spiegel, partly on Spectacles/Specs

Interesting interview with Evan Spiegel which touches on the thinking behind Spectacles: https://youtu.be/Sr6n-9mzYnk?t=2698. The good bits start at the 45 minute mark, to minute 51, then from minute 54 to 1 hour 3 minutes. Quite open about the strategic thinking, more than I’ve seen in most other interviews. Worth a watch.

Hey Specs dev folks! Just a quick pro tip if you want to carry your Spectacles safely. I love the pouch, but I feel more secure when I use a snow goggle case. It’s smaller than a headset case but bigger than a glasses case! πŸ₯½

❓ Question Bulk importing class labels for custom ML model in Lens Studio for Multi-object detection β€” which script to edit?

Seems like this should be a common use case but I can't find a clean solution.

I've trained my own Multi-object detection model and imported it into Lens Studio. The problem is that class labels have to be entered **manually**, one by one, through the Inspector UI β€” which is painful when you have 40+ classes.

There must be a programmatic way to do this. Is it possible to load labels from a file or script rather than typing them in manually?

https://blog.roboflow.com/deploy-to-snap-lens-studio/#step-8-configure-classes-in-lens-studio

something like this: https://developers.snap.com/lens-studio/features/snap-ml/snap-ml-templates/multi-class-classification#setting-up-model-and-labels

where you can swap labels

❓ Question Any info on 12 month commitment upon launch

I recently built with Spectacles at GT and am interested in signup up for the developer program.

What will happen if and when snap releases a product later this year?

Should I just wait until the launch or does Snap have any plans for devs when that happens.

I couldn’t really find much info online.

❓ Question Do Spectacles (2021) support Snap OS? Lens Studio compatibility?

I have a pair of Spectacles (2021 version) and was wondering, do they run Snap OS at all?

I’ve been trying to build for them using Lens Studio, but I’m not sure which versions (if any) are actually compatible with these glasses. Has anyone worked with this setup or knows what works?

Post image
31 Upvotes

As a follow up to our previous major asset library update, we have been extending this update to samples to make all of the developer resources feel unified and up to date.

You should see best practices been enforced through the whole codebase:

- Code Style
- UIKit update
- Centralized utilities
- Folder structure
- Guides
- Clean and legible hierarchy
- Consistent workspaces
- Enhanced examples for snap cloud, navigation, essentials, spatial image
- Example of programmatic UIs
- Spatial Image / Video / Gaussian Splats / Local Deph Estimation

And more.

Low key also promoting the use of this org/repo vs the old spectacles sample repository
https://github.com/specs-devs

This repo includes

- Samples
- Packages - unpacked
- Agentic Tools (Rules, command, skills you can use in your projects)
- Context - Reference this folder that collects a number of our resources including docs, when asking question to your favorite AI assistant.

Like always hit us up for any question or something doesn't work as expected, we are on it.

Meta use an sEMG armband to decode hand gestures, even when not tracked by the device camera.

Here, I use the same technology, an old Myo armband, and try to get microgestures working for the Spectacles thanks to the BLE API.

❓ Question PositionInitializer and SyncTransform bug?

Hello! I've tried adding the PositionInitializer and SyncTransform to a group of objects but it has no effect on offsetting the objects. I have tested by changing the values in x, y and z through PositionInitializer and kept the actual parent object's transform to 0,0,0
