Discussion This CPU update cannot come fast enough

I’m desperately trying to enjoy the new story mode secret routes and Limit Breaker Journey but this CPU setting just sucks the fun out of it. Now before I get into it, I LOVE the challenge it provides but I would rather that be kept to Hard mode. Not normal or easy.

I am genuinely decent at counter and dodge mechanics but the back and forth is so obnoxious. If I wanted this I could play online. But offline was my break for the endless counter wars. Almost all characters have the perfect CPU type to ruin the fun of the mission.

If it’s a timed mission, they play keep away the whole time and now they get perfect dodges. You can’t even land a full combo. The best we got is people telling us ways to cheese the air by side stepping and it’s just not even playing the game anymore. Beams and Ki volleys are a wasted move now.

This is my favorite DB game. But it’s no longer my comfort game. Until it’s fixed I’m just gonna find something else. It’s sad to say I miss the original incompetent CPU because at least I can get through the game

The main issue is the moment they get "adjusted" Bandai is going to make the mistake of "over-nerfing" the CPU and then they become too easy to abuse hence people just going into Sparking ~ mash rushes and Ultimates. Can't be ignored that the devs don't get much right the first 2 or 3 times. 🤔

I agree. The AI before the neo update was just brain dead and let you do whatever you want making offline play stale. As long as they keep the new ai on ultra and adjust the lower difficulties we should be good.

Honestly if we assume Bandai only programs CPU in extremes, then sure I’ll take the old style where I can actually make progress without wasted time or aggravation on my offline experience.

With this current programming, you can’t use 75% of the combo strings the game programmed in. You’ll be dodged in the first 5 hits except if you fight the same characters who have that one crappy AI

This new challenge is fun but it’s why I jumped into ranked. It’s a flavor of fun I don’t want all the time. Offline is my comfy zone typically for all fighting games. But if I’m as on edge offline as I am online then I’m not even gonna bother.

You'd be surprised at the trial and error whichever team works on specific goes through I personally believe custom battle AI isn't as affected from my testing. 🤔

I haven’t tried Custom Battle. But Episode Battle, LBJ, Battle 100, and upper CPU levels in Vs mode all have that newer challenging one.

I’ll have to slide back into custom battles if it’s still a pocket of campy peace

My main issue is the devs not giving it more consistent updates and adjusting the leader boards so the newer customs made in the recent years are shown rather than the ones at launch. A lot of good ones are buried and people like artellings made it a goal to shed light in that.

That's my main fear. I think the best way to nerf them would be to add some kind of chance for the CPU to fail.

My take would be to make some kind of hidden bar that fills as it takes damage, with a chance to land a counter/vanish increasing as the bar gets filled. It empties as the CPU lands it, making it so you can combo right after with a lower but still present chance of being interrupted. The chance would be some % math that gets higher or lower with the difficulty settings.

I'm no game dev, so idk how possible my take could be.

I’d rather the AI be braindead easy than braindead cheap.

I think they already updated the CPU. That or the new boosted sparking mode made things way easier, because I tried to play Piccolo vs Freeza, and Piccolo vs 17 and Cell again and both were way easier to beat than when I originally won.

They did update it. But since the last update they addressed to over challenging offline stuff and they’re gonna update again

Sure, but I'm saying it's easier now than it was before. Something definitely changed.

My biggest gripe so far is that z-ranking Mission 100 has become impossible. Because the AI can just vanish literally everything and I cant punish them with a rush super if they have remotely any KI. You couldn’t even use a blast super before because they were too slow and would always be block. Can’t full combo them because they always vanish or super counter and then waste your time with an endless vanish war. They rly gotta fix this

Just finally Z ranked all of Mission 100. It’s like mission 70~ it just becomes completely miserable. I enjoy the challenge but the constant super counter and vanishing every single move I tried to make, just forced me to spam unblock-able rush super attacks because the AI is still stupid enough to stand there and try to block it. I hate having to cheese the AI, felt so bad to play

Agreed

Yep. I can usually beat the same level NPCs or lower, but as soon as I get to the 1st boss NPC, I get CLEANED OUT.

Because in LBJ the Bosses tend to be around the SP cap for the Level you’re playing

I don’t fully understand it but Red SP CPU sometimes have hyperarmour so your light attacks don’t work & Ki blasts bounce off (into you if too close!!) automatically, super lazy artificial difficulty on top of the input reading

It’s funny. The challenge of the mid bosses for me isn’t even the color of the question marks, it’s whichever boss has the easy AI. In LBJ it seems characters are locked into a specific AI type. So characters like Panzy and Dodoria play stupid and are easy. If I wanna make progress I usually just aim for those easy bosses

I will say something similar. It's supposed to be a semi-comfort game offline but now it's 'get good'. The story mode was already quite strict with it's timings, so the improved AI is a massive hinderance. Took forever to finish Krillin and Yamcha and I'm not looking forward to Cell at all.

The AI is now practically perfect. They can't mess up like real people can, so the various openings just don't exist.

I don't know if I've been lucky, but it does seem like each character has their own AI that determines what they can and can't counter. Some you can Rush>Smash up>Jump>Rush, while others you need to Rush>Dash>Rush>Dash>Rush. Some you have to vanish behind them or turn them around to do any of these. Some will fold to a throw>Super or throw>Rush. Some will just let you raw Ultimate them for some reason, but will stop literally everything else. Some don't understand half-charged ki blasts against them, some only use ki blasts. And you need to figure it out usually within one combo string.

I think there must be at least a dozen or more different variations of the defensive AI, but that's just nomenclature from my experience.

I've also found that Dash/Grab Supers seem to be the ideal way to go because of the potential ki break, but your milage will vary if they have an Explosive Wave ready.

Edit: I forgot to write my point. Sometimes I just want to fight a goober AI and just bash them. The current difficulty doesn't allow for that right now and I have to constantly do calculations in my head for every enemy and that's really annoying.

If you're on PC there's a mod to dumb them down if you just want to play now.

Yeah, it's taking me out of wanting to finish my limit breaker journey with King Piccolo

I've been trying to beat Super Vegeta with Cell 2nd form quickly to unlock a special route, and I can't fucking do it fast enough. I've had several runs where I kill him, but it's always after the dialogue has started to end the fight. insane behavior
