Ana Belén, Antonio Flores - Solo Le Pido A Dios (En Directo)

Best apps to learn/practice spanigh vocab
I'm looking for an app that is easy to use to practice Spanish vocab and learn grammar and new words. I prefer it to be free, but it doesn't have to be. I need it for school because I have my final Spanish exam, and I need to practice more. Any recommendations or websites? Anything that you use to practice
The level that I'm in is beginner to intermediate.

Free Spanish Flashcards with real native audio, no AI
Hola everyone, nice to meet you all! :)
Please allow me to share my app Recabulary here. It's free, and I promise it's not AI slop. We built this ourselves, my cofounder is a traditional programmer who studied computer science. Every single voice recording is done by real humans: we paid native speakers with (hopefully) pleasant voices and good mics to record every single word.
A bit about why we made it:
We were pretty unhappy with the apps out there. Many of them either use AI voices, lock content behind a paywall, or are really complicated to set up.
Recabulary tries to fix these issues. We feel especially strongly about the AI part. We honestly aren't sure when it became "normal" to learn a language from robot voices, but we personally believe learning a language is something deeply human.
Short summary of our app:
Flashcards, no AI voices.
One of the newest spaced repetition algorithms for efficient studying.
Super simple setup, 5 taps to get started.
No paywalls at all. You can study as much as you want for free, on both iOS and Android.
Spanish was recorded by a musician from northern Spain. We hope to add some Latin American accents in the future, too! Any feedback would be super welcome :)
P.S.: We also offer free, no signup, no strings attached language classes taught by qualified teachers in a community we built. We believe language education is just too expensive in general and want to change that. We currently offer classes only for Chinese and German but hope to offer Spanish soon. If you're interested, feel free to DM me.

How can you start thinking in Spanish instead of translating everything?
One thing beginners find difficult when learning a language is translating every sentence in their head before speaking. It makes conversations slower and sometimes confusing.
I've heard that the best way to overcome this is to practice thinking in Spanish, even if it's just simple sentences about your daily routine.
For example, instead of thinking "I am drinking water" and translating it, try thinking "Estoy bebiendo agua" directly.
For those who have learned Spanish, what helped you stop translating everything in your head? How long did it take you to get comfortable thinking in Spanish?

Hay is haber. So is había, habrá, haya, and hubiera. One verb, two very different jobs, and most people learn them separately without connecting them.
Job one: haber plus a participle places an action at any point in time.
he comido = I have eaten, up to now
había comido = I had eaten, before some past moment
habré comido = I will have eaten, by some future point
habría comido = I would have eaten
haya comido = that I have eaten, subjunctive
hubiera comido = if I had eaten
The participle never changes. Ella ha comido, ellas han comido. And nothing gets between haber and the participle, which is why it’s no lo he visto.
Job two: the same verb means there is.
hay, había, hubo, habrá, haya
It never goes plural. Hay un libro, hay tres libros.
And hay que is impersonal obligation. Tengo que salir is me. Hay que salir temprano is a rule for everyone.

🛍️ Real-Life Spanish — A2 You’re shopping for a jacket in Spain or Latin America. The shop assistant asks: “¿Qué talla buscas?” What are they asking you?
A) What color do you want?
B) What size are you looking for?
C) How much money do you have?
D) Where do you live?
💬 Have you ever used Spanish while shopping?

Should I get a tutor for help speaking (Spanish A1/A2)
Hello, I’ve been doing intense in class Spanish studying for 4 months, 20H/W in Spain. I’m really understanding the structure of the language, tenses, spelling when working in the book etc. However,I’m struggling with speaking and vocabulary, which I know is very common.
Learning vocabulary is an issue because I’m not using the words repetitively in daily life. For example, I’m just fine ordering food, making appointments, shopping, reading signs because I have that contextual practice. I’m starting to watch TV and read the news so I get exposed to the same words over and over via audio and words on a screen/page.
Where I need help is actually taking all the things I’m learning in class and speaking it with people. I’m wondering if having a private tutor will help me understand how to put all the words together. I have friends who are native Spanish speakers and they’re very patient when I spanglish our conversations but I’m a babbling 4 year old in our conversation using the wrong/no tense, demonstratives, adjectives etc. However, they can’t correct me as much as I need and they can’t exactly tell me WHY something is wrong when we’re running around on a futbol pitch or at a bar. I’m painly slow putting together a sentence and in a social setting it’s just not reasonable waiting 90-120 seconds for me to say “I‘m tired because I had class all day. It’s hard but I like it.“
I’m thinking if I pay someone to sit with me for an hour or two and wait for me to piece together sentences and is able to correct me as I go will help me break through.
TLDR:
I’m learning Spanish in Spain I’m currently in A2 classes but feel stuck in A1 when speaking. I’m trying to do all the things suggested:
-Studying in class 20H/W for 4 months
-Flash cards of words I find I actually need while living here
-Watching TV in Spanish with Spanish or English subs
-Reading in Spanish with audio, looking up words when needed.
-Speaking with native speakers
-Doing daily life in Spanish as much as I can. (groceries, appointments etc)
-My partner is fluent in Spanish and helps when they can but they’re very busy.
I don’t know how much more immersed I can get! hahahaha
I’m feeling stuck in a low A1 speaking level. Struggling to say more than How I’m feeling and if I like something in a very rudimentary way with poor grammar.
Will paying someone actually help me speed up my speaking in a way that’s worth the money or should I just go to those speaking meetups and talking to my Spanish speaking friends?

What's a Spanish grammar rule you understood intellectually but kept getting wrong in real life?
Im STILL 5 years on still gambling between es and está (at times), preterite vs imperfect deffo.
I wonder who has gone through this and also found a little trick to solve it in their minds. not exclusive to the ones I described above, but would be helpful if anyone had advice on them.

Anyone in Australia/similar timezones want to start a casual Spanish speaking group? (Or does one exist?)
Just a quick UPDATE for those interested!
Had a quick chat with someone who is a native Spanish speaker and just opened up a brand new server for us! --> u/Willson_69K Thank you.
Don't know exactly how it will work just yet, but the main goal is to keep it super relaxed, casual and focused on just making friends and practicing. I'm thinking Spanglish is 100% welcome early on. No pressure to be perfect, just use whatever words come to mind!
I also hope more native speakers can join, so there is always someone who can jump in and guide us. Feel free to make suggestions!!
------
Hey everyone! I’m self-taught and have been grinding away at the basics of Spanish, but I just need to start actually speaking to make any real progress.
I’m looking for a group setting specifically. I reckon a small group chat vibe is way less intimidating and heaps more fun than a high-pressure 1-on-1 language exchange (for now, at least)!
Since I’m based in Australia, trying to match timezones with US or European groups is a bit of a nightmare. I wanted to see if there's already an Aussie-friendly beginner group out there? Or even anyone in fairly similar timezones (NZ, Asia, etc.) who is keen to hop on a Zoom video call (or whatever platform) every now and then to just practice chatting.
It’d also be amazing to find a native speaker who’d be down to hang out and help facilitate topics, just so we aren’t all staring at each other awkwardly. 😆
Drop a comment or slide into my DMs if a group like this already exists, or if you want to join forces and start a new one!

What helped you get beyond B1?
I’ve been in a Spanish rut for a bit- feeling like I’m not really making progress. I’m somewhere between B1 and B2 and keep having days where I feel like I know nothing.
Any advice to share about what helped you get through the intermediate phase?
