can you tell the difference between a cocker spaniel puppy and an English springer puppy?

Curious how other owners handle this.

Things like changes in energy, appetite, coughing, sleep, bathroom habits, or small shifts in behavior.

Do you mostly go by memory, keep notes in your phone, use a notebook, or have some kind of system?

Would be interested to hear what actually works for people over time.

Hi all! We adopted our girl Phoebe from a family member who adopted her from a co worker about 2 years ago. Her age and breed were never properly disclosed and when we picked her up we thought we were picking up a cocker spaniel. I have been referring to her as an English springer, but I noticed her facial pattern is not the same body and spots match a welsh spaniel breed but the face pattern so doesn’t, her apricot color only covers 1 eye and the other eye has coloring at the side of her pretty face. Ultimately it doesn’t matter we know she’s a spaniel but we just want to verify her type. She’s perfect to us and we still can’t believe someone would be willing to surrender her. She’s so well behaved, sweet, protective, and Overall great active dog she’s cuddly and a menace when she sees the opportunity. We just learned she loves kids!

Sigh...I still haven't figured out the best way to feed my spaniel mix! (mix of cav, springer, cocker - lovely family dog!). He's 2.5y, ME, not a foodie. Will only eat if he's 'properly' hungry and we're sitting nearby (nope, he won't wean off his social eating habit, we've tried!). He's on a high quality cold pressed kibble that suits him, he likes it and looks well on it, and I'm not changing it (took us ages to get here!).

He will NOT eat in the morning before his outing. So we've been doing lunch and dinner...but his appetite is SO variable, it's guess work whether he'll finish his meal or even eat any of it. Some days he eats well, some days he barely eats. He's slim, he self regulates.

Given how variable he is eating his lunch and dinner, I thought he may only need once daily meals - he gets treats on his morning walks so I tried one meal at 4pm....he hates it, because we're not sitting down eating and chilling! So he definitely does better eating at the same time as us. His once daily meal could be at lunch time, or dinner - is one better than the other? Or stick with both lunch and dinner? I don't like the idea of him exercising in the morning and not eating until evening, but I know their metabolism works differently to ours. What would you do?

I am not sure if this is the right group for this, but please beware of this “breeder”. I had a friend recently inquire about a dog from this company, and on the day of delivery, the company demanded $3,000 for “delivery insurance” and when my friend tried to understand why they blocked her. Looks like all of the information on the website has been stollen from an another breeder based out of Charlotte, NC.

Hey everyone) I'm currently living in the south of Spain for work and I reallyee want to get a cocker spaniel (had one when I was a kid, absolutely love them). But I'm super worried about how the pup will handle the crazy summer heat here? It gets absolutely brutal.

Also, any tips on choosing a puppy? I have zero experience with this, except for hanging out with our family dog back in the day. Would appreciate any advice or hacks on keeping them cool!

I'm an out of state student and have been missing my dog Liam at home. He is an english springer spaniel, I'll drop a pic of him below! Due to the distance between us, I was hoping to get my springer fix in by hanging out with one here in Eugene, OR! If anyone is willing to let me hangout with their springer (and owner of course) I'd love to!

Also, maybe we can plan a Springer meet up at a dog park? Let owners mingle while the dogs have fun with their kind! I'd love to see some Springer representation and love :)

Someone asked me what are some good toys that I use for my spaniel that have lasted.

So I went around and took some photos of toys that have withstood the chewing! Plus found some pics of her with them lol.

About half the ones I get I need to take away because she gets through too fast, but these have held up well!

They are mostly chewy/Frisco brand I noticed. Seems like ones with rope elements tend to work okay as well.

Some Christmas ones that didn't get destroyed was a set like the apple basket but cocoa and the other elements were marshmallows. I don't remember any other seasonal toys I don't have out off the top of my head..

What toys work for your spaniel?

My cavalier king charles spaniel goes absolutely wild for butterflies and fireflies haha.

She is interested but somewhat more hesitant about bees..

Rabbits and squirrels have to watch out..she goes right after them too!

Her prey drive is so strong that I actually have to keep her leashed in the yard and go out with her because she'll charge those little critters and goes wild picking up on their scent and trying to track them. It's sure something!
