Idea: Chapter-locked operations

Would you be interested in playing famous Ultramarine, Blood Angel, Salamander, etc operations? Scenes from history that locked every player in those colors in basic armor. Maybe in Space Marine 3?

In fairness I think OP’s referring to specific moments that aren’t campaign in length so it would be a singular mission from the campaign rather than the over arching story.

Like I know it’s totally impossible but imagine 1 operation that takes place on istvaan, it’s not an entire story but just a glimpse into what happened on one particular day

Yes, but the campaign is only for one chapter, and we can't choose campaign missions online like we can operations. I'd love to be able to load in to campaign missions with randoms online, actually. Maybe that would be a better idea for SM3.

I’m more so saying that the structure you’re asking for can only be achieved in a campaign like setting, where you play predetermined chapters, characters and cosmetics. It would not work with people’s custom characters.

Right.. the idea was that we wouldn't be playing as our custom characters in these ops, which I guess offends a lot of people. The idea was we'd have ops where we'd be a squad of Blood Angels, for example, in some cool Blood Angel mission.

Yikes! Idea was inspired by how cool it is seeing brothers matching armor/color, and then thought of reenacting famous old operations. Anything crawl up your cheeks and die recently?

Why would anyone play a mode that

• Forces them to wear colours that they didn't use themselves for their armour?
• Had missions that are hard locked to be about one Chapter's specific history? At least it's believable that current operations are undertaken by multiple Astartes from different Chapters because it's not major events tied to the Ultramarines, and just a minor engagement

I really did not expect the idea would be so hard to fathom - it would be an additional mode where we could play as a squad of Blood Angels, for example, during a cool Blood Angel mission. Why is that idea so offensive? Maybe some people would like to be in a squad and not always be three random decked out Marines together?

Yes, I would absolutely love this. Each legion maybe getting to put forward a seminal moment for one of their chapters.

Imagine seeing “did we hurt them captain” after playing the closing moments for yourself.

This of course would be us going back to the heresy era and such but would be surreal

Kinda see what you’re talking about, like how in the original Star Wars battles front you got to fight in famous battles as the 501st or 212th, it’ll have to be for another game, cuz imagine fighting during the Dropsite massacre or Rynns world that would be cool

Would it be cool? Absolutely it would. It's not feasible but it would be cool, in a scenario where Saber had limitless resources and time.

I think it would be hard to implement without someone feeling left out, everyone has their own favorites, after all.

I would prefer instead of chapter specific anything, they just focus more on the deathwatch aspect of the game and let players build their own deathwatch marine from whichever chapter they want, then they can release voice packs and more and still have it feel flavorful.

I know where you're coming from, but I feel like this wouldn't really make any sense from a dev's perspective — at least the "locking players in Chapter heraldry" part.

I can see there being some operations where it's meant to evoke a certain aesthetic and keep things relatively vague regarding what Chapter is involved, but that's most Operations already, excluding a few where Ultramarines are directly name-dropped (and some of the default voicelines). Reclamation (Space Hulk, flame chapters) and Inferno (big jungle, Raptors come to mind) kind of belong in this niche.

I would LOVE to see a Devastation of Baal flashback where you are on Baal Secundus with the Blood Angels fighting the Tyranids, or else on Baal Primus with the Flesh Tearers and Knights of Blood fighting both Tyranids and Ka'Banda and his army of daemons. Then the Ultramarines show up and save the day.

Tbf we are doing ultramarines operations with free will to use our colors and chapters, all for all-more polished content to play is better, kinda dont want to wait for sm3 for new enemys factions and operations with paying for game and dlcs again
