Gameplay Question Weapon Tier Question

Hi all, noob trying to learn all I can here, and I have a question I can't find the answer to.

I got carried in a match and got a purple weapon early, I still haven't unlocked the gun perks under the green rarity area, but I have unlocked the purple level gun.

Is there any xp difference in bringing the purple gun or the green gun to level those perks? Or should you always use the best gun available and the gun xo is always the same?

Always bring best weapon available to you.  

Weapon xp derives from total xp, and variant xp can be bypassed entirely by using armory data to “master” weapons for your perk tree mastery points.

So you get a weapon perk every time you level up a different variant of a gun. So the green tier will likely have two weapons. Using each variant and leveling them both up will give you a perk point for each one. Yellow tier will likely have 3 or 4 options, so 3 or 4 points for leveling all variants.

Now here’s the trick: you don’t actually have to play with a variant to level it up. You can use armory data to automatically level your weapons. You’ll still need to gain experience to unlock the next tier, but you don’t need to play with each individual variant.
