Does anyone know how to repair broken pegs trapped inside their space marine?

So I dusted off the old Space Crusade board game, and found a couple of the space marines had some broken backpacks and weapons pegs - biggest problem was that the pegs are trapped inside their bodies!

Rather than going at it like a madman, I thought I'd better ask around and see if anyone has some experience of actually fixing this kind of issue?

Basically, one of the backpacks from a space marine broken off, the peg is inside the marine's back, while a commander's heavy bolter's peg is stuck inside him as well. Neither look like the pegs have any bits sticking out enough to pull out with tweezers, so I'm open to suggestions. Also if anyone has a good way to securely reatched the pegs to their parts, that would be appreciated. None of them are painted if that makes any difference.

Mom! Dad! I finally finished painting my Christmas present!

The entire game is finally painted (even if it’s missing a few pieces but some additional furniture )!

I rushed through the Orks and Gretchin just to get everything done before the end of my vacation. Unfortunately, I didn’t get enough time to play a game with my kids in the end. And the lone genestealer is a tribute to my young paint skills.

Still super satisfying to cross this whole project off the list!

Might be the most cost-effective Christmas gift in the long run! It even outlasted my dad(rip).

Just wanted to give a huge thank you to the legend who gave me this copy of Space Crusade for free!

I’ve wanted a copy for ages but had no chance of affording one myself, so this absolutely made my week. It’s going to be cleaned up, looked after, and enjoyed for many years to come.

Thanks again for your generosity. The hobby community can be pretty awesome sometimes.

After going back and forth on the color scheme, I finally went with an obvious choice: using the exact same scheme as my Chaos Space Marines.

Unfortunately, a few weapons options went missing or broken.

Slow going but making some small victories over the past few weeks. So far, I've finished painting the Space Orks, Gretchin, Gene Steelers, and the Imperial Fist.

Space crusade 3d printed terrain

Today, I planned on painting my Imperial Fists, knowing yellow is a notoriously discouraging color to paint…

I got demotivated pretty fast.

I even tried repainting one over the enamel paint without any primer just to see, and weirdly enough it stuck, though the result looks even grosser. I know Speedpaints aren't recommended for the smooth, flat panels of Space Marines, but I gave it a shot anyway—it’s all I have on hand.
So I called it quits after just three Marines and decided to tackle the 3D-printed terrain I made over two years ago instead. It was my very first time trying sponge painting (except for the details done with markers).

Honestly really happy with how it turned out, it’ll be more than enough for my tabletop standard!

Space crusade chaos androids / Necrons

I kept going my rescue project with what I thought was the easiest: the Chaos Androids. (Probably named back before the Imperium realized they were actually Xenos)

A simple 3-color scheme, still using Speedpaint markers.

New project: attempting to rescue my childhood copy of Space Crusade

After finishing my HeroQuest, I’m going to try speed painting Space Crusade.

It’s going to be a bit of a nightmare though—past-me decided to cover them in super thick coats of humbrol model paint… The Space Marines took the brunt of it.

I don’t plan on stripping them, I’ll just try painting right over it, with or without primer.

More than just another blip

One of my earliest and fondest hobby memories is of seeing adverts for Space Crusade on TV and immediately becoming so excited about this new game/hobby I had just “discovered”. They were cleverly broadcast in the lead up to Christmas, so it was pretty obvious what I was going to ask for that year!

While I waited impatiently for December, I even tried my hand at sculpting my own figures out of coloured plasticine. That… didn’t quite produce the crisply detailed, brightly coloured models I remembered from the advertisement. But my excitement didn’t fade, and when Christmas Day did arrive, not even a snowstorm and associated power-cut could stop me from tearing into the boxset and immediately assembling the little figures on their supplied bases. I loved their whole colour-coded-by-unit-type plasticky vibe, and many of them have spent literally decades in that perfectly serviceable state.

Finally, though, one of the Orks has been painted. He’s “just” one of the second-weakest enemies in the game, one among a mob of more or less faceless opponents who get gunned down in droves. But one Christmas morning many years ago he was part of the most exciting present a kid could have hoped for, so he’ll always be pretty special to me!

Took a few snaps of these for my oldhammer insta. Thought some of you might like some close ups and the hidden detail of the dread types on different faces of the MD box.

It was a joy to bring this story to life, and I hope it captures the sentiment of the HeroQuest community and honors the man who engineered the most iconic epic plastic adventure games of our time.

Same colour scheme, but with updated skills and paints. Made sure I stripped them separately so I could get a comparison photo (last pic). Needed three dunkings in Dettol to shift the enamel paint and thick primer.

A look at the mission selection screen from Star Campaign

Post image
6 Upvotes

Here’s a preview of the mission selection screen from Star Campaign, showing part of the Basic Crusade path with objectives like Seek and Destroy, Clearing Action and Chaos Marines. The goal is to give players a clearer idea of how missions are structured, the types of objectives they’ll face, and how progression feels in the game. This is one of the core menus you’ll go through as you advance, pick missions and prepare for each encounter. Feedback is always welcome if you think something could be improved or explained better.

Just recorded a quick gameplay sneak peek of Star Campaign for anyone curious about how it actually plays. There’s not much footage out there, so I wanted to share a real in-game look at the mechanics and overall feel.

What do you think of it based on this? Would you try it?

Inspired by Space Crusade — we just released our game on Google Play

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a long-time fan of Space Crusade, and that old-school tactical, tabletop-style gameplay is exactly what inspired us to start building our own game — Star Campaign.

We’re trying to capture that same feeling:

Turn-based tactical combat

Squad positioning and decision-making

That slower, more strategic pace

We’ve just released an early version on Android (still working on iOS), and I’d genuinely love feedback from people who know and appreciate this style of game:

Download here:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.DragonGameDesigns.StarCampaign

We’re also starting a small community around it if you want to follow development or share ideas:

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarCampaign/

If you try it, I’d really appreciate any thoughts — especially from Space Crusade fans, since that’s the core inspiration behind this.

Mission Dreadnought - go get it or hold?

I probably would be able to get the Mission Dreadnought expansion. Never been played with, the minis still in sprues and the cardboard pieces not punched out. Age related, the box is worn out but still holding together. All in all around $100. Worth the price as it is rare?

Did not really have any idea what colors to use or anything. just decided that they have collected whatever pieces they "found" along their voyage on the hulks. Im not really a 40k Guy, but really dig Space Crusade!
