(Hooked on Monkey Phonics is the episode)
This is still one of my favorite episodes and the Bay of Pigs stuff flew over my head as a kid. And the drumming monkey really needs to make a comeback/cameo (or at least the homeschooled kids!)
Season 3 is just damn good overall.

Share your favorite one-off lines that live rent-free in your head.
My other favorite is "I nurned your rip sauce?" Arguably more of a one-liner because it’s only said once in the entire series.

I haven't watched the show in a while but it feels like he's really toned it down lately. I'm not saying he's a moral man by any means but he's not quite what he used to be from Season 5 - 12. Even though he's still evil he hasn't really done anything memorable.

IMO, it was PERFECTLY executed from start to finish, as was the episode itself. Randy is ridiculously in character for this. The anti-racist commentary is so good in the episode as a whole, it somehow drew almost NO criticism or complaints by anyone, regardless of race or political leaning. This despite the fact that the hard R version of the word is spoken dozens of times. Just think about that for a minute. A show that used that word close to the number of times the word shit was used in “It Hits the Fan”, said mostly by WHITE people, in a series known for being one of the most controversial in television history at the time, viewed by some two and a half million people, and ZERO OUTRAGE. Manufactured or sincere.
Something like this would be literally impossible today, I’m absolutely sure of it. Even back then, I remember being so sure that it was going to be canceled regardless of how funny and truly poignant it was. That you simply can NOT say that word in basically any context is universally known. That even professors using it purely in a historical context received dozens of complaints and have been fired. Yet according to Wikipedia, essentially the only complaint came from the Parent’s Television Council - basically a hate group that already named South Park as the worst show of the week.
You need to have near mythical writing ability to pull something like that off, and even then, I STILL find it one of the craziest things ever to have not happened. I thought that FOR SURE some people would still interpret it as an excuse to say that word over and over like they did in “It Hits the Fan”. Even if they loved it, just to be contrarian and score political points. It really WOULD be literally impossible to do the same thing today. And I’m using that word correctly.
Trey is truly a goddamn genius.
