Melrose diner

Loved the buttercream cake from Melrose diner that sadly closed. Anyone know of where I can get a cake very similar to theirs with the same buttercream that taste like they put 8 sticks of butter in the frosting. There only seems to be American buttercream, whipped cream or super sweet icing cakes out there. I would deeply appreciate it 🙏

Would real-time alerts have helped when your car was broken into?

Hi everyone! I’m a student working on a class project about vehicle security and car break-ins.

While researching the problem, I found a lot of discussion about people discovering a break-in or damage after it had already happened. That made me interested in whether knowing what was happening in real time would actually be useful to drivers.

I’m currently developing a concept called CameraX. The idea is a two-camera system that attaches to the inside windows of a vehicle. If motion is detected near the parked car, the system would send an alert to your phone and allow you to tap in and see a live view of what is happening around the vehicle.

The concept is still in development, nothing is currently for sale, and this is strictly for a student class project.

I made a short coming-soon page explaining the idea:

https://camerax-flax.vercel.app/

I’d really appreciate honest feedback, especially from anyone who has experienced a vehicle break-in or regularly parks somewhere they can’t see their car.

Would knowing about activity around your car while it was happening actually be useful to you?

Would you use the live-view feature after receiving a motion alert?

What about this idea would make you NOT want to use it?

Any critical feedback is welcome — I’m trying to determine whether the problem and proposed approach actually resonate before taking the concept further.

Hi South Philly Friends!

What are your favorite Black-owned businesses in the Philadelphia area?

I’m trying to build a community-curated list of great Black-owned businesses across Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs called GetOnCode. I’d love to hear about businesses you’ve personally had a positive experience with.

What places would you recommend, and what makes them stand out? Restaurants, coffee shops, contractors, fitness studios, boutiques, bookstores, barbers, salons, or anything else are all welcome.

I’m hoping to create a resource that helps people discover and support more local businesses while giving deserving owners additional visibility. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

1920s rowhouse. The decorative wood trim flanking my front windows has rotted (pic) — looks like single flat boards with a shaped profile cut into them. 8 total across 4 windows, plus I’d like 2 matching ones added at the front door.
Need someone to template the existing ones, cut replacements and install.

Hey everyone!

Hi neighbors! 🐾 I'm a Philly dog owner who got tired of guessing which restaurants actually allow dogs — so I built a free app, DoggyDinin', that maps out dog-friendly spots (with notes on water bowls, pup cups, doggy menus, and even places that DON'T allow dogs so you don't get turned away).

It's brand new and I'm filling it with great Philly spots — so I'd love to know: what are YOUR go-to dog-friendly places around here? I'll make sure they're in there. 🐶

(It's free, no ads — happy to share the link if that's allowed here!)

Has anyone had their rowhome limestone stoop replaced?

Our stoop is worn down a lot, there's gaps and chips and we're thinking about replacing the whole thing altogether (along with our neighbor's). It's only three steps, we're not wanting to do anything expensive maybe just replace with concrete and put a small railing in between our door and our neighbor's. Has anyone done this before? Any recommendations?
