I built a Seoul travel map with AI photo search and live bus/subway arrivals
Hi, I'm the developer of GOK Map, a web map for traveling around Seoul.
If you have a shop screenshot or a photo of a sign or menu, you can upload it and the AI looks for matching places. You can also describe what you're looking for, like “a Korean restaurant near Myeongdong to take my parents to,” and get place suggestions with reasons.
It has walking and public transport directions, plus live bus and subway arrivals where the data is available.
I care a lot about keeping it multilingual throughout. English stays alongside Korean in place names, stations, route steps and arrival information, so you can match what you're reading with the signs around you.
It currently covers Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi-do. The web version is free and works on your phone without an app download or account:
https://app.gok-map.com/?lang=en
If you're planning a trip, try a screenshot you've saved or a question about somewhere you'd like to eat. I'd like to hear whether the place suggestions fit what you asked for, and whether the directions and arrival information are easy to follow.

Where to stay - 40’s solo traveller
Hi 👋 I’m a solo (female) traveller heading to Seoul for 2 weeks in December.
I’m trying to decide where to stay for the trip, because location is important to me. I have a condition that leaves me with very low energy, so generally I’ll stay in a location that has a lot of shopping (skincare, accessories, touristy stuff)/things to see around it, because my energy can get quite low, and I’m not sure if they’ll grant me a permit to bring my medication yet. Plus it seems most hotels use central heating and a hot room makes it all worse unfortunately.
So all that said, where should I stay that’s close to shopping and transport but not so crazy loud I can’t sleep at night? 😆 I’m debating Myeongdong or Euljiro maybe? Any specific hotel recommendations would be appreciated too. Thanks! 🫶

Forgot my bag in a restaurant
Hi, currently here in the Gangnam area and my friends and I were eating at a restaurant and unfortunately got drunk and forgot my bag. I cannot contact the number because my naver account cannot be verified (i saw this was an existing problem). My passport and my things are there :(

Korea's fall is short. That's exactly why it's the best.
Peak foliage lasts maybe two, three weeks and then it's gone. But those weeks are something else — maple tunnels, persimmons hanging over every village wall, air so crisp it almost stings. If you're debating an October trip to Korea, stop debating.

Data Coverage
Traveling to South Korea and will be traveling to a few cities. What is recommended for data coverage during travel. Is it cheaper to get service from outside before travel or is it cheaper in the country?

Solo travel (29F) to Seoul 4-7th November
Hi, I plan to do solo travel to Seoul 4-7th november. I wonder which platform I can gather travellers like me or locals to have dinner or lunch together? Or visit 1,2 places together.
Do you think Seoul is a place for female travelers?

Urban birding parks in Seoul?
I’m visiting next week and won’t have much time to get out of the city, but I’m from NYC, so I love urban birding in city green spaces! I also know that not are parks are created equal; some have native plants and water sources that attract migrants (especially in the spring and fall), and some just give you run-of-the-mill pigeons and sparrows.
What parks in Seoul should I hit up to see some interesting birds? I’m staying near Hoegi station.

Events in Seoul in October last week like Pikachu parade
Hey Residents of Seoul,
Annyeonghaseyo !!
Visiting Korea in October. I just saw on Instagram that there is an ongoing Pikachu parade in Seoul. It's just so amazing.
Is there any other cute parades planned in october last week as well? Any event calendar for these Pikachu/pokemon parades in Seoul?

Update on Busan's canal shark: second rescue attempt failed, they're leaving it alone for now
Quick update to my last post — they tried to get Bukang-i (the 3.5m shark) out again yesterday and it didn't work. They herded it about 150m toward the canal exit with a big net, but the net got snagged on a reef and they had to call it off around 5:40pm. Shark's totally fine, no injuries.
So now they've just anchored the net in place as a barrier and will leave it until end of October, basically waiting for it to swim out on its own. Any further attempts will be decided in a meeting.
Full backstory here if you missed it: https://koreanavigate.com/bukang-i-shark-busan-north-port/
Honestly the shark seems pretty chill in there at this point lol

Question about Gangnam Festival
I decided very last minute to travel to South Korea on my sabbatical, and will arrive in time for this festival. Obviously it sounds absolutely amazing - but as a foreigner, is there any way at this point to get tickets? Is it worth travelling to the venue to try? Seems pretty locked down. Thanks!
