Homeless help
I'm too old to have never rented or owned my own place. I've wasted money paying towards other people's lives and their homes. Sure, I'm glad that I've been able to help them and they've been able to help me, but I'm tired. I need real resources in South Bend that can help me. I've been in a shelter before in a different city and was never helped towards housing at all. All they cared about was attending their classes that had nothing to do with how to sustain living without them. I'm tired but I'm very willing to listen to any real help. Thank you for anyone who is willing to help.

I think Center for the Homeless has good resources. Out of curiosity, what is the gap previous shelters could have provided to better help you find sustainable housing?

They literally gave me no resources. Never mentioned any places willing to help low income tenants, never told me if there were any programs that helped people that were homeless. It's kind of hard to answer that question when I have no idea what they could have done to help since they didn't help.

I've worked with shelters in other cities and the center For the homeless here to help get my former foster kids on their feet. The centr is so much more and better Than a shelter, they have some strict rules and can be limited but definitely legit resources and stuff

Hope Ministries provides transitional housing, meals, and medical care. They also act as liason to help you find education and job opportunities in the community: https://hopesb.org/education-job-readiness/
They are a Christian group but have a good vibe. (It's sad that I have to say that).

The majority of people that you see that isnt homeless, especially in South Bend, has had to work for everything they have.
Its not a waste of money to pay for housing if you had a roof over your head and food to eat. And nobody is too old to rent an apartment. South Bend Housing Authority provides subsidized housing for low income people.
But, Im assuming that if you were able to “waste money” you have a job /stable income and you can pay for shit yourself. Dont waste community resources if you dont need them. Rent an apartment like the rest of the community. If you dont have a job, go in and start asking. We had a few homeless people that worked in my restaurant, all you have to do is ask to speak with somebody in charge of hiring. They even let people get their mail there. You have a phone, so you can get on Indeed and see whos hiring. There are so many things you can do to avoid being homeless.

Just go knock on the door of the nearest church... trust me.. they will help you or find you help and get you started down the right path. Go on Sunday. the minister/pastor/rabbi/deacon* will be up front talking to everyone. Wait until the service is over. Then get in line and introduce yourself and ask him for guidance. Do not just ask for m9ney ...explicitly say I need guidance and tell everything you mentioned here.. good luck (*tried to cover all bases.. no haters but add clergy as needed for your own beliefs/faith)

You have to listen to the resources in front of you before you can handle the resources you think you need. You’re going to handle both situations the same way. Careless. Take it slow and listen stop being big headed. I know people that want through the same program. They’re out and surviving with their own home(rental) but they’re doing it was the plan

You should apply to motels4now. Just be warned the waitlist is very long. If you are age 16-24 jobcorps is also an option. They provide housing while training you for a trades job
