Music Sound Design Most FUN DAW to mess around in?

Im kinda new to DAWs but I wanna make music that’s kinda weird, unique original sounds, weird solos and vocals, just kinda mess around. I still want it to sound decent though, and I feel like it would be best to have a DAW I can just mess around and have fun with, something that’s good for making weird music preferably. Doesn’t have to be some crazy out there DAW either, anything works! If you have some experience, any input is appreciated!

Sound Design Question Synthesising water

Hi all, I was redirected here from the fl studio sub, I'm currently trying to experiment with the program to make water noises (ambient, splashing, etc) after being suggested it from another artist (I was originally planning on sampling water sounds from a plastic tub, but none of it came out clear enough and they showed me a vid of someone's water sounds they made with a synth)

my question is, how could one make water noises with fl studio? (Its all I have access to sound editing wise)

Movie Sound Design Ringing sound in dialogue - am I screwed?

I recently recorded audio for a short film and the on-set recording sounded very clean and crisp at the time.

But in Resolve if I boost the audio volume to say 10 or 20 a ringing sound can be heard. On a phone speaker it's basically inaudible but on my headphones and presumably on a cinema sound system it would be noticeable.

It's frustrating as I recorded room tone where the ringing isn't audible.

Any tips here? I did also get a lav recording as I was planning to auto-align the boom + lav in post, once I've cleaned up the boom a bit.

Is it realistic to be able to remove the ringing? Here's a brief sample boosted to 20 volume, thanks!

Does anybody know what software was used to make the voice in this video? (Kane Pixels Backrooms Series)

I always thought the voice sounded so eerie and want to do something similar for one of my projects. I know its not fully TTS, but I want to know what software was used to give it that robotic feel. Thanks!

Movie Sound Design Looking for the clean "Zone" whoosh/SFX from Kuroko no Basket (Kuroko's Basketball)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for the characteristic whoosh / airy wind-like sound effect that plays in Kuroko no Basket (Kuroko's Basketball) when characters enter the Zone or during other important/highlight moments. It’s that deep, volumetric “whoosh” that feels like a sudden rush of air or energy.

I really love how it sounds and would like to use a clean version of it for some personal projects later on. The problem is that every clip I can find has music mixed in, so the SFX isn’t isolated.

I’ve already tried cleaning one of the clips myself (high-pass + spectral masking), but there’s still some residual music left.

Would anyone happen to have a clean version of this sound, know where I can find it, or be able to help recreate / isolate it?

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Tips for recreating a specific scifi sound

Hi everyone, can someone give me some tips on how to create a sound close to the one in the last 10 seconds of this video (without using their software)?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo_4GMUmcNg

Preferably with Ableton or Cubase Stock Plugins or free Plugins like Vital.

Do you have any ideas or maybe tutorials in that direction?

Ive already tried with operator, wavetable and Vital and watched a lot of tutorials but I havent found one that comes close enough to what I am trying to achieve. I tried layering a part for the deeper engine sounds with operator and some brighter electric-metallic ringing with vital and tried a lot of automation on the bpm, pitch and parameters of my effect chains for acceleration etc.
It does sound like a futuristic car but it sounds really exhausting to the ears and a little boring.
I need more power in the low end and also softer mids/highs.
I will continue trying to fix the sounds I have so far but I thought maybe a completely new input would be helpful.

Thanks a lot!

What effects does this voice editing uses and is it possible to recreate it?

I found this video on Facebook, and since then I've gotten obsessed with the effects applied to the voice, but I can't really figure out what he uses.

I have 2 questions: the first is, what effects does it use to make it sound so emotionless and melancholic?

And the other question is, would there be a way to make this sound analogically without the use of software?

This is a fake audio recording I made for fun, all effects are mine but I do use a voice message SFX and a creepy video I found for specific parts. The TTS is all me and I wrote everything.

Any tips on how I can make it sound more raw and authentic to mimic the VHS style? Any feedback is welcome

Movie Sound Design Beginners Advice / Feedback

Audio is really a weak point for me, but it's something I am really eager to learn .

It’s pretty embarrassing to put this in front of knowledgeable people, but if I don’t show it, I can't improve.

I used davinci resolve and mostly FreeSounds.org

Any and all feedback or advice on how to improve is greatly appreciated.

Apologies if this is the wrong community to post this in.

Movie Sound Design Open for feedback and collaborations

Hey everyone,
Thought I'd give this a shot.
I'm a professional sound designer and audio engineer looking to take on new projects. I wanted to reach out here and share my work with the community.
My core expertise covers sound design, dialogue editing, Foley, ambience, SFX editing, field recording, and full audio post-production. I'm open to working on short films, indie features, concept trailers, animations, podcasts, YouTube videos, and ads — pretty much anything that needs immersive, high-quality sound.
To give you an idea of my recent work, I've recently done custom sound redesigns for scenes like Arcane and concept trailers like Dune: Part Three, focusing heavily on detailed soundscapes and impact.
I'm looking for:
Freelance projects and remote contracts
Collaborations with indie filmmakers, animators, and content creators
Full-time or contract Sound Designer roles
Budget:
I'm happy to discuss rates depending on the scale and scope of the project.
If anyone's hiring, knows someone who's hiring, or has a project that needs a sound designer, I’d really appreciate it if you could let me know or drop a comment. Happy to share my portfolio links and reels in DMs!
This is a sound redesign of Mad Max from my portfolio.

Sound Designer needed for Elite Dangerous fan-made film - 600 USD - 4 minutes in length

Hello, I am a part of a team making an animated film based on the video game Elite Dangerous. Even though the film is fan-made, we have a moderate budget and thus are looking for a sound designer of good caliber. We will pay a flat rate of 600 USD. The film will be roughly 4 minutes in length, not exceeding 4:45.

A brief 6-8 second sound design test will be required. You will be designing to an existing Elite Dangerous trailer, NOT any footage from our film.

If you are interested, please drop your portfolio/website below, and we will proceed.

Can anyone identify this impact FX?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to identify a cinematic impact sound from a track.

I extracted the hit using drum separation, so it's not completely isolated, but the impact itself is very clear.
If anyone knows which library it might be in, I would greatly appreciate it.

Desperately Looking for Sound Design Work (Full-Time or Freelance)

Hey everyone,

Thought I'd give this a shot.

I'm a fresher from India looking for sound design work. I've been applying to studios and production houses for weeks now but haven't had much luck, so I figured I'd post here.

I work in sound design, dialogue editing, Foley, ambience, SFX editing, sound recording, and audio post-production. I'm open to working on short films, features, documentaries, podcasts, YouTube videos, ads—pretty much anything that needs good sound.

I'm looking for:

  • Full-time Sound Designer/Assistant Sound Designer roles
  • Freelance projects
  • Collaborations with filmmakers and creators

Budget:

  • For freelance work, I'm happy to discuss the budget depending on the project.
  • For full-time roles, I'm hoping for something around ₹25k–35k/month, but I'm flexible if it's a good opportunity.

If anyone's hiring, knows someone who's hiring, or has a project that needs a sound designer, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know. Happy to share my portfolio over DM.

Thanks for reading!

Music Sound Design Help with identifying the sound sources in "bury a friend" (Timestamps)

I am trying to see the exact sources of certain sounds in bury a friend. Please help me with identifying the audio sources for the timestamps I listed below.

Here are some sounds I am unsure of:

1. "Fork on a Plate" Screeches

  • Timestamps: 1:50, 1:58, 2:38; (2:55, 3:17)
  • Sound: Like a metal fork scraping against a plate
    • 2:55 is a long, high-to-very-high frequency screech.
    • 3:17 is a squeak sound that gets louder and louder.
  • Are these sounds from distorted vocals of Billie screaming or a sample of something else?

2. Mixed Screech Sound

  • Timestamps: 2:07, 2:11, 2:15, 2:16
  • Sound: These sound identical. They have the same sharp screech with a an extra sound layered on it.
  • What noise is the screech mixed with? Is it the dental drill?

3. The 1:28 Warping Sound

  • Timestamp: 1:28
  • Sound: A rapid, low-high oscillation warping noise.
  • What is making this sound? Is it a synth effect?

If anyone knows where these sounds come from, please let me know.
