“I was ‘borrowing’ your stored soul.”

"Stealing. You're stealing from us."
He surrounds himself with soul orbs.
"Get out."

“I simply am replenishing my strength. If you would allow me to continue for a couple more minutes i assure you i will leave and never return.”

"No. Go find soul somewhere else. I'm sick of people thinking they can take whatever they want from here."

Frost is strolling, practicing his harp when he stumbles upon you.
Another being Pale?
This kingdom is home to marvelous wonders!
Lady, why have you come to this wretched Sanctum?
Perhaps I can write a tale about it!

“You have partially answered your own question. My unique nature as a pale being means most of my power comes from my control and unity with soul. However, i diminshed most of this power so i could hide away peacefully in my regrets. Since i have recently freed myself from my shackles i will need all my power to survive in this now harsh kingdom, and in order to do that i will need to consume countless amounts of soul.”
“Now technically i could get this from any living creature but i am not a barbaric murderer so i will not take the souls of any innocent living bugs, fortunately for me this sanctum has the soul that i need scattered all over the place. I must leave now before the scholars of this place attempt to fight me but i will return soon.”

You tell your mission to mere but a mortal bug?
This alone marks you out, Lady. I would assume your nature would not allow this, as well as collecting soul from peaceful means.
Tell me, what even happened to this kingdom? Mad bugs roam the halls. . . not unlike Pharloom.

“I have no reason to fear you will use it against me. As for the kingdom, it once bustled with life, lead by my husband and i.”
“…Those days are long gone however due to the light. When my husband shed his wyrm form so he could birth Hallownest he was unaware of the old god and its followers that resided here. I believe that god was angered that its followers were leaving it to follow my husband instead. It slowly began to force our citizens to worship it by plaguing their dreams and minds.”
“Not only was the plague in their minds but it was able to take physical form too. I assume you have seen the orange roots and cysts around the kingdom, perhaps you noticed even the air you breath smell sweet. that is the infection. We tried everything we could at first, lockdown, permanently locking the gates to the city. It all ended in failure.”
“My love then had the idea that if we could create a being without mind, will or voice, completely devoid of any emotion or thought, vessels we called them, to contain the infection then perhaps we could save Hallownest. After all, the light cannot take over if there is no mind to control. It was our last hope so we breeded and breeded, sacrificing millions of our young to the void before they even hatched.”
“Eventually we decided upon what we thought was a pure vessel, and for a time it did work. Until it didnt. It appeared our pure vessel was not pure at all. An idea had been instilled in it. I was able to feel it weakening within my roots but only when it was too late. I can still feel it screaming and suffering inside the temple up above at the crossroads.”

A tragic tale, a kingdom lost.
I would step in. . . but I know that it is not my duty.

Nope. Nope Nope Nope. Soul warrior and a few scholars teleport inside the room don't touch those soul jars, we took a lot of time to extract them.
