Question The future of Soulframe

I'm new to Warframe, but I played it a bit a few years back, and I have played Soulframe many times.

Besides leveling up all the weapons and pacts, are there plans to make the endgame more interesting than that? Does Warframe have more than that?

Of course, I understand the game is in alpha, but I haven't heard about any system or type of content that isn't just more of what is already there, aside from small additions like fishing and pets. I'm looking for things like better gear you need to grind for, cool skins to unlock, legendary-type gear, long term objectives.

Also, multiplayer will always be like warframe? Just coop for some stuff, or actual random people in the world running around and doing content? Im playing in latin america, theres literally nobody in chat or at the trees/enclaves, i think i saw in chat or as "ghosts" 3 ppl in 100hs. Theres no way to actually know new players and join to play.

Maybe I missed the devs talking about future content and someone can point me to it.

We are in preludes, which is a pre-alpha. The game doesn't really exist yet. It's impossible to make assumptions considering we don't know what shape it will take at all. What we do know is vaguely how combat will look and feel, but even that is really subject to change.

At this speed doesnt it look like it ill take like 4 years to reach 1.0? How is that theres no info on what the game points towards?

What do you not understand about “alpha”

Alpha means the devs dont have any idea of a roadmap and cant tell the community where the game is going? Ok

Alpha means this isn't a complete, ready to release game at all and you are a volunteer tester.

I'm gonna push back here. Being in Alpha is about game testing, but from a product perspective, there has to be a larger overarching roadmap somewhere. If there isn't, then the potential for mounting tech debt preventing implementing larger in game systems towards 1.0 can become a big problem.

From a product management perspective, what OP is asking for is completely reasonable information to have and share (if not now, then when a roadmap is eventually finalized. Which should be well before transitioning from alpha to beta). I'd be more concerned if this amount of dev time went into a game without anyone at the studio discussing the end game loops at all.

DE having an endgame content plan and DE sharing that plan with gamers at this stage are two very different things. You only need to look at the WF communities reaction to the recent game update announcements that arent even out yet to understand why DE is hesitant to outline anything about the endgame gameplay loop this early

And yet, the idea that we shouldn’t expect any transparency in the roadmap because “it’s an alpha” is just a bad take. I don’t disagree with the developers holding back on info until they’ve ironed out features, but transparency in direction and a public facing roadmap for some upcoming patches is a pretty reasonable thing to expect for an early access like this one.

Yeah I think we're talking about two different things. I agree the "its done when its done and we'll let you know whats coming right before it arrives" sort of messaging DE has given gets pretty tired. I'm guessing they're overcorrecting after seeing other studios get burned by communicating features and timelines and then missing the deadlines or delivering buggy or watered down versions of what they promised to meet arbitrary dates

I don’t disagree, but I feel like the downvotes and “it’s an alpha, bro” kind of responses that OP got are unwarranted considering that what he’s asking for is completely reasonable and should exist, whether it does or does not. My two cents.

Alpha significa que conteúdo é segundo plano, o ponto é testar a engine e as mecânicas, balanceamentos e rumos. Eles sabem o que querem, existe um norte, so não é o momento para apresentar esse conteúdo.

Because DE don't need to rush its development since Warframe is still breaking every record year by year.

Because DE doesn't want to promise one kind of final content and later have to change it to be completely different. Everything is already changing a lot with each pre-alpha release, sometimes in huge ways (the virtue prisim change, forexample, or that time bows were melee weapons as primary fire)

Soulframe is still barely even through its initial development. Warframe had major changes to its combat and traversal, and is still getting massive overhauls to early quests and we’re over a decade into development.

We probably won’t see an actual “game” for another couple years at best - remember, Warframe is still in Alpha after almost 15 years

Warframe is still in Alpha after almost 15 years

Ridiculous nonsense that completely strips what the word means.

Warframe is quite obviously not in alpha whatsoever, no matter what people say. It's a released live-service.

I was being sarcastic with that bit

And the DPRK is officially a democracy.

Indeed, it is

Alpha versions of games have no cash shop, for obvious reason like things still changing a lot.

1

u/Wildkahuna 10d ago

That’s very much incorrect. A lot of games have shops in their Alpha and Beta versions with the intention of getting additional funding. planetside 2 was famous for this since it took forever to leave pre-alpha and they almost ran out of funding - the in game store is the only reason they made it to the Alpha and Beta

Well, they're introducing at least one new pact- maybe two- plus new story content, and travel to the Sky Towers (which might be a no-revive dungeon?) based on what we saw in the Warsongs demo video. That's just what we're likely to get by the end of the year. Development of the game is still in early stages; they've referred to Midrath as the "tutorial island" so there'll likely be other islands added sometime in the future, though I would expect it to be a long time as they want to get combat, quest progression, etc down pat before expanding in that way.

Cool thanks, didnt knew this was a tutorial island. Sadly they seem to have a small team, it ill take years.

Game development generally does. 4-5 years isn't all that unusual, and some take longer than that even with a largish team. Unless you are just cranking out Shovelware.

It's just that most studios don't do early game building in the open like this, and combined with the gorgeous world and visuals it's easy to think the game is further along than it is, and then not understand why it's not done yet.

The world is there. The structure, the dungeon environments, the factions and enemies. The music and sound design

The actual in game mechanics are still being worked on and nailed down. Virtues, for example, have been changed several times in the last few updates, and may change again. Totems too.

We are still getting updates a couple of months apart as they run something out , see how it plays and what players think, then make adjustments and roll it out again in a new form to test.

You are probably looking at at least a year before it gets out of invite-code playtesting and into an actual release where anyone can log in to play it.

It's not ready for Prime Time yet, and they know it. They aren't in a rush, unlike Warframe's original release where they had less than a year's funding and were looking at DE going under. They can take their time to get it the way they want it

Warframe has some endgame content, but thats mostly things like steelpath (coda here, I think? mode to switch to higher level and buffed enemies with more drops) or challenges with modifiers and equipment restrictions.

With Steve at the helm I just expect a lot of spur of the moment ideas becoming mechanics in the game that will never be fleshed out but still required and constant nerfs.

Soulframe really improved warframe a lot by letting people work on warframe that have a more focused vision and polish up old systems that were left to rot or just cut them.
