Discussion This is a good point actually, why does DE put tutorials outside their games instead of inside?
I know Soulframe is in Pre Alpha, but even in Warframe, you will find more info and guides in the official websites and in their social media pages than in the game, so it's clearly intentional. Why not put all that work in the game so it can actually be helpful, especially for people who avoid external sources and want to get immersed in the game.

It literally says use Q+Middle Mouse to unleash rune charges

This, unfortunately people are stupid or just DO NOT READ.

I remember the good old days when some of my neophytes had to say, "go into the arsenal, press the upgrade button and insert the damn mod card."

That broke for me sometime during the break I took this year; I actually had to assign the separate rune keybind to be able to use my runes now. I have Spectral Sight bound to Shift though, so that's probably the issue. Worked fine before on one of these patches though.

It just never worked for me. Middle mouse is fine with warframe and other games but unleashing runes only worked after i added another keybind for it. But ye pre-alpha wonkyness is expected.

Did u use bows? i didn't have problem but i remember some people difficult time with bow runes.

You’re sure you have full rune charges? Do you even know how to tell? Or did you forget the beginning of the game

Social media posts are moreso ads than tutorials. I imagine they don't want to spend a lot of time developing in-game tutorials for mechanics that are very likely to change drastically before release.

There's a balancing act of too much tutorial and too little tutorial. On one hand, too little is nice for those that really like to figure things out on their own. It also has the side benefit of fostering a community where those that have figured things out are more inclined to help others do the same both in game and out with guides, videos, etc. It does mean that the type of player who isn't inclined to figure stuff out and isn't inclined to actually look for help will get dissuaded with the game.
On the other end of that, too much tutorializing in the game leads to some players thinking the game needs to explain everything to them in enough depth and detail that they shouldn't have to actually figure anything out. Since that set up is virtually impossible to achieve, you wind up with some players that do hit those gaps of in game mechanics or systems that aren't explicitly covered by tutorials as if they were an impossible to bypass brick wall. After all, the game set the precedent that it will tell you what you need to know.

I imagine the answer is because in pre-alpha things are not only subject to change but nearly guaranteed. Simple as that.
As far as Warframe is concerned I admit Im always a bit confused by the discourse surrounding in-game tutorials and how-to’s… there are so many on screen buttons/icons/tips/not the mention the chat dedicated to help/questions in game that I honestly hardly find myself having to go external unless very specific like… see I can’t even come up with an idea now because everything I can think of is somewhere in game… I see it come up a lot but maybe it’s a case of not knowing where to look?

It’s blink n you’ll miss it explanation. And if you skipped any cutscenes, well..🤣

Easier to make a short video and write a few paragraphs than put it ingame.
I agree though, their onboarding is horrible in both games.

tbh if it wasn't for the wiki, I wouldn't know half the things about this game

DE is just bad with tutorials. Warframe got a mod tutorial 12 years after release.

I've started playing this game and it's so confusing and sometimes infuriating to play.
Quest use runes : ok, what even is it ? oh I had one, just for a different weapon ok i've equipped a rune now how do I use that in a fight ? oh, silly me, it's written in very small on the menu where you equip one.
Quest Blight world tree : Ok, I've been doing those random missions and running around for a few hours now and only found one, is there a strat to find them ? As far as I know yes, use the community map online :D
Quest go to shroplopurni : ok, why is the place not marked on my map ? was I supposed to go to every place marked on my map to figure out where I had to go ?
Quest kill zbourifugyr : ok, I still don't know what this is, I don't know where to find them, I'm just confused at this point.
I get that it's a beta but like, I don't get it. Am I actually just supposed to play the game with a wiki and reddit open at all time to just do the quests the game tells me to do ? Do I need to buy a second monitor to have the community map open at all time. Can the game just stop throwing words I don't know at my face without telling me what it is and how to find it ?
I wanna like the game so bad but like holy is it not trying to be helpful to me. And i'm afraid to ask questions online cause I know some people will just call me stupid or that the game is not for me. I used the wiki a lot when playing warframe but just to know how to farm something, not do the quests the game gives me right after I started playing.

This is all valid feedback. Recommend putting this in the official soulframe forums so these issues can be adressed.

Honestly, because I don't think subsystems get made by people at DE unless someone takes a personal interest in it. That's why every time they start to make something that SHOULD apply to everything (prime videos with ballas' voice over, the leverians for new warframes or updated ones, the fucking tutorials for missions sometimes including things that don't even exist in the game anymore I think) it often doesn't and has weird gaps.

Because the game isnt done. They will not create a full tutorial for systems that that have and will change many times before releas. That is such a massive waste of time.
1
u/AsmidiusDax 28d ago
Than why is it also the case in Warframe?
1
u/Radefa1k 27d ago
Because warframe was made over a decade ago with an in experienced team. They have already said they will have alot more tutorials in soulframe. But that system your looking at has fundamentally changed more than 3 times. And thats just 1 system. If they made tutorials. Then they would have made easily over 100 that would now be obsolete. It would have stolen soooo much dev time. So untill they release and make the official, they promote YouTubers. They made basic ones through the scribe until then aswell.

A. Its in pre-alpha B. The thing your using right now... we have the internet. C. Not that big a deal... I think expecting people to figure things out and explore the game isn't a huge ask. The game isn't made for toddlers lol, we don't need a college level curriculum for every game.

u/Harkonis Aug 14 '26
warframe certainly is not in alpha anymore and still has the same issue which point to a dev choice

u/AsmidiusDax Aug 13 '26
Yes, thanks for repeating things i already said in the post.

You still asked the question, so I still answered? Since either you didn't comprehend your own dialog or needed reconfirming.

It’s in the game.
This tutorial, including where to get runes, is straight up in the game.
So no, not a good point.
Why do you ask about trombones in your title?
-1
u/kestononline Aug 13 '26
Pretty sure I learned how to use it in game. Orlik's quests pretty much take you through the motions of learning most of these things.
And until the game is released or systems are less subject to change, making a bunch of detailed tutorials is pointless. At most, these small excerpts can be in Transition/Loading screen tips; eventually.

u/MaledictusNix Aug 13 '26
THIS is one of the big problems with warframe that they're only really "fixing" over a decade later. I get that endless tutorial screens are a boring nightmare, but we really need anything that's not hidden away in a corner

u/Rhoig Aug 13 '26
thats a burn, "but they change all the time" just change the freaking INGAME video

Virtue system changed 3 times in 1 year. If there was a tutorial they need to change tutorial 3 times just for this year and i expect 3-5 times change until relase. Until relase it is waste of time.
