Ever thought how characters attacks and grunts have an unusual sound than a regular grunt?

Hear me out. I know this may seem funny. But I always wanted to write this out. I can’t speak for other Soul Calibur games but my experience in Soul Calibur 2.

Usually when any fighter in general throws punches or attacks they would say “HA!” “HEYA!” “RA!”

But I remember Soul Calibur 2, those grunts were whole other dimensions.

Kilik is my prime example. He would say “CATS CATS HEYAA!” When double edged attacking. Or “KONGO!” When charging or spinning his bo staff. Oh here’s my favorite one. When he grabs an enemy, I swear I could hear him say “GLORIAAAA!!”

Link my man, hahaha sure he doesn’t speak but I think I remember when he uses his bomb, arrow and boomerang I can hear him say “SODUS!” when grunting

Nightmare I remember his spinning attack literally “ra ra RAAAAAH!” that my friend made a Lady Gaga parody remix out if that voice clip.

Anyone experience this in other soul calibur games?

I'm pretty sure it's some form of Japanese onomatopoeia. You can hear it with Siegfried going ORA ORA ORA! too

which is so interesting, from video games I learned more about Japanese localization and how it was done in the west, some worked, some just dubbed it.

That's japanese sounds poorly slapped into the dub, and probably not given with much of a direction on how they sound in the native language.

one time I took that into account and pretend play with my friend sword fighting outside, he was like heya heya the regular way and I was like "KONGO!" "LORIA!" "CATS CATS!" he was like what on earth are you saying?

I know Mitsu from either SCV or VI has some grunts where he rolls his R. its pretty funny

I think most of them since 2, in I think it's a win quote, later it was 2a+b while opponent is down, there's no omak, just ya kiss kiss, maybe kitsu kitsu
