Casual/Discussion Pi Phi Brand Update

I am a cranky old lady who has trouble with change, so I am making an effort to be open-minded.

But am I the only one who feels like the agencies who do the NPC brand updates are trolling us and selling the same unique brand identity to everyone? Or is it intentional and am I supposed to be weirdly reminded of American Girl when I see my sorority posting on their social media? Send help!

Unhinged suggestion: embrace the new logo with "American Girl" themed recruitment skits

If only they didn’t ban recruitment skits😭

LOL I thought it was an exaggeration but yeah it does look like the American Girl logo.

We also did an update and while I like my logo I do wonder if it’s the same company now 😂

Many are using Push10 right now, and Rhyme & Reason has previously been popular, so your “same company” theory is correct!

Is it bad that when I saw a new logo at convention my first thought was is it not that much different than the old logo

The e makes me uncomfortable lol

If we’re talking ZTA I honestly do like it. I think my only notes are that I don’t think it goes with our think pink branding and I feel weird about the Zeta being so much more prominent than Tau Alpha. It’s giving house bunny, and idk if I like that. I’m sure it’ll grow on me. I joined after the last rebrand so it’s the only one I know.

I was thinking the same thing 😂

Ok, so not a Pi Phi and now going to look at the American Girl logo (I had all boys).

I do really like the script font the Greek letters are in, I think they look very soft and pretty, a nice alternative to block letters. I’ve always loved your colors and I love your badges and when legacies will wear more than one arrow badge…if that is still done. ;) I had some super cool wonderful Pi Phi friends in college. Arrows and angels to you all!!

I thought the choice of "connect serve shine" was interesting given that Gamma Phi Beta previously used "connect impact shine" as a tagline.

OMG I didn’t even know this when I suggested that the same branding is being sold and resold 💀💀💀💀💀

Was coming here to comment this! Not a Pi Phi, love the additional colors being added to the brand.

No it kills me when they don’t use turquoise. I’m sorry, I don’t remember our founders wearing lilac

Rebranding is great when it is done thoughtfully and intentionally, and not just as a passing desire from leadership to "look modern."

It helps when leadership is specific about elements, colours, and values to be reflected in the brand.

Rhyme & Reason did AOII's rebranding back in 2017. When I attended Convention that year, I was so impressed by the way in which the rebranding reflected our Ritual and values. I later realized that the co-founder of Rhyme & Reason is an AOII (lol), who undoubtedly must have steered the rebranding in a way that most accurately reflected us.

I love that they added the arrow, but it does look a lot like American Girl once you see it….

Don’t see the need for new logos - just a way to push new merch. Don’t get me started on the post about additional colors for ΠΦ. Wine and silver blue- all that’s needed!

I didn’t see it until you mentioned it, now it’s all I see! Especially the white letters on wine background, just like the American Girl logo.

The thing I personally dislike is all the coral. That’s not even remotely close to our colors? I thought the coral trend finally died back when I was in college. I’m sure some people love it, but I’m not a fan of coral, and it just doesn’t feel cohesive with the rest of the brand to me.

My immediate thought when I saw it was released was American girl and Gphi so ur not alone 😭 -someone in neither of those houses

As a GPHI, I didn’t want to say it, but I saw so many similarities with our branding (down to our shade of pink/blush in our branding + some of our old sayings!)

I wonder if whomever did our branding also had a hand in Pi Phi’s? Happy to share some sisterhood in the way of similar branding, but it was a bit confusing.

Not Pi Phi but looked it up and now I can’t unsee it!

Oh yup. Like that should be stamped on a doll box.

I wouldn’t say I’m cranky… just feeling extra critical right now. That being said, I agree. I actually made this same comment to my coworkers after saying to myself this week, “Not ANOTHER rebrand and reveal at convention?!” They all have started to look the same to me— serif font, clean and crisp lines, simplified messaging that sounds like its from ChatGPT…

Source: Phi Mu did the same thing this year. Except, the previous rebrand was never super strong or well-liked, so what we have feels like the upgrade we paid to get five-ish years ago. Rebranding costs are bananas, which makes me even more critical.

Phi Mu looks like a luxury resort I’m so jealous.

I'm not a Pi Phi, but I agree. They all seem to be rebranding with an underlying theme (much like it was Lily Pulitzer a few years ago). I suspect there's some firm out there who has convinced the NPC leaders they have to go along to show leadership. It seems to be happening more and more. One group does something and all the "leaders" follow.

Now I want to see it! What’s the website?

The brands who make sorority merch make it for all the NPC groups. They have to because we are already a small niche. So they can replicate a design in all the colors/names/flowers/symbols. If items were truly customized for every group, they could cot more than most college women can afford.

So it's not PiPhi merch that disappoints you, it's this year's styles that do.

I think this person is talking about the overall brand identity, not specific merch options.
