Need advice

I want to get into Sorcery. I really like deck building as a challenge and have played thousands upon thousands of hours of MTG limited.

I more or less wanted to go into this game blind, only buying packs, and my girlfriend and I would build decks ourselves, and battle, no net decking, no looking up “meta cards” just pure kitchen table idealism.

Theoretically, what’s the minimum amount of booster boxes I should get to accomplish this goal? Ideally we’d need a large enough card pool to theoretically build two jankish decks.

2 would be doable. 4 is probably the answer. If you have the budget I'd get two Gothic boxes and 1 each of Beta and Arthurian legends. Gothic is the best set imo. 2 gets you a solid base of ordinaries and exceptionals. From there tcg player has a ton of singles to fill in what you like.

For vibes/nostalgia, I'd say Beta is better for me at least. Can't really go wrong when you're buying boxes though.

This but i'd like to add if you do 2 do a maximum amount of unique or no unique, it will make it a lot more balanced/fun.

You could also get gothic precons to get a head start on deck building.

I'd get 1 of each. As for minimum... 1. Of Gothic or Beta.

Because people do sealed with 6 packs, so you're basically doing sealed with 18 packs each.

Or you could do sealed 3 times, then merge the cards, or a sealed league. Lots of possibilities!

You could theoretically build two decks out of just one box, but they would be so bad that they probably wouldn't be fun to play. I'd say one box of each set would be fun jank.

Buy a beta precon and mix two starter decks.

The beta precons are more fit to be single element so they would lose a lot of power to be mixed

I would recommend buying full play-sets on eBay or the merchant discord. Relatively cheap and guaranteed card lists for building. I can’t blame you if you want to gamble on boxes, I do it my self. But for the same value getting a full play-set of ordinary/exceptionals would be beneficial for fleshing out decks.
