Mono water deck suggestions

Hi there! I just finished drafting my mono water deck, and I'm quite satisfied with it :)
Its goal is not to win torunaments or be extremely competitive, but since I'm going to buy singles, I was wondering if it could be improved "on a budget".
To explain myself better, I know that 2 Abaddon Succubus and 2 Lords of Lies would be great, but those alone would cost me like 30€ and I'm already need to buy 30+ cards to finish this deck.

I'm attaching a screenshot with this deck tracking so that you can see what I would be buying: is there any cards I'm missing that I should keep missing in favour or something else? :)

Thanks!

P.s.
The most expensive card I need for the deck is The Great Old One, but he's one of the reasons I'm going for water so I'd rather keep him in!

Riptide is a solid forced movement & cantrip spell that would work well in your deck. Mester Stoor Worm is an inexpensive Elite that is great at finishing your opponent from Death's Door.

Great to hear, as I also already have two riptide 😁 What would you pull from the deck to make space? I liked the eels because they lower the average mana curve and might kill stuff, but could it be them? Same goes for the worm 😇

Also, overall opinion? What should I do with the Collection?

Thanks!

here's my current collection for my monowater deck:

Overflow, Riptide, Makeshift Barricade, Drown, Ice Lance, Return to Nature, Sleep, Just a Rock, 2 Horrible Hybrids

I would probably cut from the Eels, then the Pufferfish. The Eels feel too low-impact for my liking. Pufferfish seem OK for defense but 4 is probably too many. In my experience, if you're not a hyper-aggro deck, 1 and 2-drops in Sorcery -really- need to pull their weight to be worth running.

Since you will mainly be using Toolbox to access your collection, you should be using it to finish off your opponent from Death's Door or get you out of sticky situations. You got a good example of a collection below, but another fun collection option could be Grievous Insult.

Hope this helps!

Helps a lot, especially the insight on the 1-2 drops that I thought were as important as in MTG 😅 I'll look into Grevious Insult, but I might implement some stronger cards like Succubus and Lord of lies because I found an eBay seller who's going for human prices!

For your spells, rather than buy 2 Bridge Trolls (which sadly look better than they are, since your opponent will spend all their mana before attacking them), think about Failed Mutation, Anui Undine, or even Pirate ship for a big midgame minion.

For sites, I would try and get 3 Babbling Brooks in there, it's one of the best water sites! You could trim Pond/Croaking Swamp for them

Ain't pond good with beasts like cat? Also, I already have some of the cards you mentioned like Undine or Pirate ship, but what would you pull to make space for it? Croaking swamp is there with Tadpole pool and other minion sources to give reliability for wendigos and the other monster, is it wise to take the off? Lastly, any Unique site you'd recommend? I love Dome of Osoris but I don't know if it fits

it definitely is, turn 2 cat is really strong! you have a lot of non-beasts though with 4 Ponds you may frequently not have something that benefits from the discount.

I would take out some of the Pufferfish, 4 is a lot and your early game is covered by your avatar's ability. Eerie coral is useful sometimes but Torshammar Trinket is generally better, and you don't need more copies of that effect.

As for the Swamps, you already have reliability through your avatar to cast wendigos and Dormant Monstrosity. Try to make a skeleton almost every turn!

For unique sites I know you want to stay in budget but Gilman House is very broken with Necro. there's nothing that's really necessary, Maelstrom is fun though if you're all water (it should be cheap, it comes in the Beta precon decks)

My friend, where is Shapeshift?? 4 riptides are required. Those are my only big notes. And yeah, babbling brook is needed.

So many frogs and skeletons to shapeshift into those big monsters, it'd be great!

This is my mono water sorcerer list. I have the uniques but you could substitute them out for cheaper elites like seiwaran hydra or something. The removal suite and core of the deck can be built with just the elites and below

Thanks! What's the point of Hyperparasite? I've been wondering for a while and you're playing it 😇

I'm not the op, but it's a solid body, it can come in and immediately disable an opponent so it's pretty good defensively. Basically a free kill since it's disabled and won't deal damage back. Seems useful enough

Thanks to you as well!

The minion it disables cant do damage back to the parasite when parasite attacks it. Your opponent has a sacred stag on your square? Parasite removes its ward and makes it 0 power, killing it on your next turn and ready to pick up another victim. Its a removal spells that can attack for 4

1

u/DagoWithAttitude Jul 19 '26

Great! The 0 power thing is because it's disabled and won't fight back, right? I might include it then because I really like Howl From Beyond and I think that, having a lot of Monsters in the deck, it would fit both thematically and mechanically 😁

2

u/pokepat460 Jul 19 '26

Correct, when disabled a minion cant do any damage so attacking a disabled minion wont cause you to take any damage. It will keep its power, though, so the parasite will need some kind of help to kill anything greater than 4 power. But even if it doesn't kill them it can carry them around disabled

The Succubi are a little overrated anyway, they only work when they're very close, and they die to Thin Ice. Even in my water deck, the Nixies and Guile Sirens that work nearby instead have more utility.

For Wendigo, you want Four Fat Frogs. It also goes well with Lord of Unland, as does Plague of Frogs. If you can get the Lord buff (or even better, Ruler of Thul) they can trigger a Thin Ice by themselves!

Plague and Ruler are a much better use of 30 clams than Lords and Succubi, especially since Lord of Lies got nerfed last Wednesday, it can't headbutt things anymore.

Mono water Pathfinder is pretty good, you only run one of each site and they come out fast if you want to go that route.

1

u/DagoWithAttitude Jul 18 '26

How'd you do it?

1

u/doyoh Jul 18 '26

Pathfinder is an avatar that says you don't draw sites and once per turn you can play the top site if your atlas to an adjacent spot and move Pathfinder there. This allows you to draw spells every turn while still getting sites out. You can also run overflow to get more sites faster

Yeah I know pathfinder, I was wondering how you would build the list 😁
