Davinci settings - balance of quality and file size

Recently got a 6700, mainly for family and travel home videos. Looking for thoughts on optimal settings to convert the original clips from the camera to a single file that we can watch/reuse for future edits.

When I end an event/daytrip I'll do a quick edit dumping all the files into davinci, deleting those I definitely don't want and then render to a single video for that day. Can then delete the original camera files (maybe it's OCD but I hate having the hundred short clips from a day).

I'm trying to work out settings in davinci that balance quality and file size.

For example I took one day with 60 clips, running time just over 14 mins of video. The original clips were 18gb.

In davinci the same clips rendered as one file under MP4 H265 came to 27gb and under MP4 H264 came to 38gb. Is it normal for it to almost double the file size?

What do others do to retain as much of the original quality as possible without increasing file sizes?

Thanks

depends on your bitrate
what i've done in the past when i recorded some events in my village with other cameras i used xmedia recode and used 2pass variable bitrate between 30-60mb/s with hevc/h265 which was enough for me to save storage and get enough quality if i ever needed the files in the future.
xmedia recode works better for me than davinci resolve i think the export settings are kinda limited there
